Great trail. Hiked on a Sunday. Starts out open & easy from parking lot then narrows with lots of steps from rocks & roots and beautiful trails weaving thru forests and rock bluffs. Lots of inclines & switchbacks. A few neat view opportunities of reservoir & FTC. Parking lot can fill up by 10. Mix of foot only & open trails, which means you’ll need to watch out for my bikers flying down the trails sometimes. But still great hike & only 30 mins from Loveland.

One of my favorite hikes. I usually just do Horsetooth rock or the falls, but starting at the falls, looping around to the top of the rock was great. Scrambling to the top of the rock. Several mountain bikers zooming by, just be cautious & have fun!

Love this place. It was shorter than expected because of little ones hiking. But going back to work more of the trails. The view is beautiful

I tried the Sandpiper Loop and took a smaller, quartermile loop twice. blBoth were super easy. No shade, but you don't really need it when it's 40 degrees.

Mostly gravel. Went at 5:30pm and didn’t see another person on the trail.

Surprisingly fun! Not just the grasslands it appears to be. Hiking over the ridge was interesting and more of a moderate hike. Would do it again. Sad that dogs aren’t welcome.

Good hike but google maps gave the wrong directions- make sure to use Lory State Park route! Pretty views. Not as hard as I was expecting- moderate. Lots of trees! About 2.5- 3 hours total up and back. Not quite a scramble at the top but some pretty vertical stairs.

All around good hike. Dogs are allowed. Wish I’d gone earlier to see the falls. Make sure you get to the trail head early or you won’t find parking!

good, easy trail. A few spots that were rockier and could be a little more challenging for new hikers but nothing too crazy. Scenic overlook at the top was gorgeous.

Well if they would clean up in the wooded areas from the homeless leaving their extra stuff behind it might be a little better!

Starting with the Maxwell Natural Area Foothills trail and tying into other nearby trails provided a wonderful hike for my dog and me. We crossed the road to the west and hiked along a narrow ridge trail that provided a beautiful view of the Horsetooth Reservoir to the west and Fort Collins and beyond to the east. It eventually came back down to the road and we crossed and headed back along the remainder of the Maxwell Natural Area Foothills trail.

Busy trail on a Sunday morning. This trail, Timber Trail, is located south of the Maxwell Trail and travails around Dixon Reservoir in a timbered area to the west and through a busy prairie dog town to the east.

Nice hike with enough elevation gain to make it interesting. A few mountain bikers but not a problem at all. Gorgeous views of the reservoir.

Sadly no water at the falls, but still a beautiful hike

I thought we were following the map recording, but we must’ve got off on a different path to end up with 6.4 miles instead of the 5.7. There are so many other paths and routes in this area for trails that you could literally make up hundreds of variations and mileage lengths. Pretty busy area, we barely got a parking spot by 1030am. So that means tons of people on the paths. Beautiful are though, an amazing place to visit!!

This was a wonderful hike! I recommend it to anyone who wants great views and to get their heart rate up just a little!

If you are hiking Arthur’s Rock, do the Howard’s loop!! Not much further at all but well worth it. More nice views and only saw 2 horseback riders.

I absolutely loved this trail. The views are spectacular and even though it was busy the trail is wide enough that I was never rushed by other hikers. Not alot of trees, so go on an overcast day or pack some sunblock. I also took my two young boys and the trail was not overly difficult. I wouldn’t reccomend for anyone youger than 2. Great hike and can’t wait to go back.
