DO NOT TRY TO TAKE GOOGLE MAPS ROUTE WITH MOUNTAIN BASE ROAD IT'S CLOSED! Did half this hike on 1/12/19. Snow packed trail approx 4-8 inches great for snow shoeing but can be done with yak tracks! Did the trail clockwise and there's a pretty decent incline about 1/3rd of the way in. Didn't make it to panaroma point due to starting really late but I would highly recommend and am planning to go back soon!

Uphill the first half mile and then it levels off. Pretty home through the trees and had some powder. Started off hiking and then put on snowshoes.

this was a super nice trail traction recommended

Definitely I tough hike if your not used to elevation- probably not smart to fly in from Texas on 3 hours sleep and go directly to the hike. Considering all of that I made it 1.3 miles ( approximately 1700 steps) before deciding to be smart and take the 1st trail down. My stomach was jacked and my heart was pounding even though my pulse was not that high. Lesson learned - get in a few days early to acclimate, hydrate, and try it again. I still had a great hike and really enjoyed the views and light snow. On a positive note I did bring water, microspikes, and proper clothing

Moderate is a good way to describe the trail. Hiked with snowy condition but you can’t beat the view at the top.

Good climb with camping at the base of the mountain.

One of my favourites! Broke climb into 2 days. First day started in afternoon, climbed over notch mountain and camped in the valley. Woke up early next morning and summited. I would do this hike again.

Great hike, slightly confusing near summit due to cairns were sometimes difficult to spot. I have hiked many 14ers and this trail seemed more strenuous than I had previously thought. All in all still a great hike

DOG AND KID FRIENDLY! Hiked this over New Years December 2018 due to not making it to Sunlight Mountain in time for snowboards to run out! Mostly locals out walking dogs and running even tho the trail was totally snow packed. Nice for when you need a little stroll or something to do and dont want to venture too far outside the town. So many families and doggies. Makes me want to come back to GS with my doggo.

Biked this in July 2018. Great scenery, approrpriate for all levels but plenty of restrooms/rest stops along the way. If in the area this is one of the best ways to take in what Glenwood Springs has to offer.

Absolutely gorgeous hike! It was really snowy when I went, but the trails weren't too terrible with snowshoes. I would highly, highly, highly recommend this hike! It was one of the most stunning hikes. I brought my pup and she had a blast!

Did this in the evening 1/17. Trail is completely clear of snow— a little muddy in certain parts. This route is very rocky and has lots of big steps. I have bad knees so going downhill was rough. I’ve done this hike from the east ridge before and prefer that route (via goat trail). Less crowded on that route and not so rocky.

I was there last weekend and it was easily drivable with a 4x4 Tacoma and bfg ko2’s. The first left looked completely unmaintained while the right turn (the actual trail) was just a bit slick.

The road was closed about a mile from the trail head but we expected that. It was such a great hike! Definitely dress warm for this time of year and bring good snow shoes. The water was beautiful through the ice and thick trees! I am so excited to see this place in the spring and summer!

man what a workout but worth it. icy would suggest using spikes.

Beautiful winter hike great place to watch the sunrise amazing views all around. Word of thanks to the snowshoers who went up the previous day , made the hike much easier.

Great trail close to Denver. Not very busy midweek during the day. Some good views of peaks, downtown and red rocks once you get on top.

Beautiful sunny day with snow capped mountains calls for a winter hike . I brought my four legged companion, new hiking boots, essential day pack, and a positive outlook to what was to come when I arrived in the parking lot. I went counterclockwise, and trekked up the icy , muddy mountain top first (realized that when I finished my loop route) please be careful as there’s a lot of black ice venturing upwards, especially in the shady parts of the trail when you curl around the mountain. It was very muddy throughout the beginning and near the end of the hike. Overall found some gorgeous gems, had a great workout for my physical body and a much needed adventure for my soul today . Out and back took 2 1/2hours . The last half hour was collecting rocks and sipping in the sights of downtown Denver whenever there was clearance through the forest . Ski poles are recommended even with waterproof winter hiking boots.

This is a great, easy hike. Very beautiful!

It was snowing when I did this trail last week, but still completely doable. I didn't want to snowshoe or struggle to get to a trail head, but still wanted nice views. This hike checked all the boxes. I wore spikes, but you could easily do the trail without them. Even in the snow, I passed several other hikers. I imagine it's a very busy trail when the weather is better.

trail was snowy so we walked the road up. saw a herd of deer! pretty hike and really easy.

Great for hiking in the snow! absolutely beautiful. Trafficked but not heavily. I will be back soon.

There was one section of the trail that I completely missed somehow according to the map on here but otherwise a great short hike. Icy and muddy right now though so proper footwear is definitely reccomended.

Very icy near the top. A bit of a scramble too, most dogs wont make it the last .4

Nice mostly off road trail. Well pathed. Good for walking also biking. Can continue on the Coal Creek trail instead of onto Louisville.

Great weather yesterday at Chasm Lake! micro spikes from trailhead to lake and I was glad to have my ice axe for the last half mile. Be careful and enjoy!

I did this about a week ago with my daughter in her Osprey pack and pulling my son in a single Chariot with the ski & waist pulk attachments. It was a tight squeeze getting the Chariot through the gate at the beginning, but the rest of the time our setup was great. The road is nice and wide so we were able to stop and let others pass without a problem. I wore microspikes and used hiking poles, which worked well on the snowpacked trail. My dog was in heaven and got to play with a handful of other dogs along the way.

I did this trail yesterday carrying my 9-month-old daughter in a pack. The trail was snow packed most of the way and my friend and I both wore microspikes and were very happy to have them. There was only one section of trail that was exposed and a bit muddy on the right side with hard ice on the left side. It was a beautiful bluebird morning with low temps, so not much melting happening yet.

A beautiful peaceful day on the trail. The trail was snow packed so no need for snowshoes even after freshly fallen snow 2 days prior. Parking is a challenge since the lot has not been plowed due to the furlough :0(. Could not make it to calypso cascades since the trail disappeared shortly after the “Y”. Therefore backtracked and went to Finch Lake instead. I was the only soul on the trail today. Of course it is Monday. Beautiful views of Mt Meeker and Longs about half way up. Sweet little creek crossing that had amazing ice crystals
