Just hiked this on a Saturday afternoon and came across a total of eight people... crazy! It's a long, dusty drive to get to to the trailhead off of 400 (I came through Eagle), but well worth it if you don't like hiking with a crowd. Not too tough of an effort, and (relatively) warm water in the lake.

Love this trail when you get to the top. It should not be rated easy though. Steep incline for 2 miles.

This hike was pretty easy at first with a moderate to difficult climb towards the end. The trail is slightly overgrown but not too bad. pretty and peaceful once you get to the lake.

This is a new favorite hike. We only passed one person on the trail, and he was the guy running the Peter Estin Hut at the end of the trail. It's mostly covered with some exposed spots. As others have said, it's definitely longer than 3 miles. We clocked around 5+ miles up to the hut and back. But the views from the hut are great and well worth the incline.

This trail was amazing. It leads all the way up to Mt Charles which I nearly summited but was not prepared for such a long hike. 2.9 miles? Seems longer than that. Beautiful views, many alpine flowers in bloom, and just a nice long trail. It kicked my butt. I plan to come back here ASAP.

We started from the LEDE reservoir end of this trail and after about a mile the trail became very overgrown and nearly impossible to follow. After wandering around in the meadows we finally came across part of the trail that had lots of downed trees laying across it. It might be better from the opposite end, but starting from the LEDE end sucked.

The first part of this trail is relatively easy, but somewhat overgrown. Definitely recommend pants. The last 1/3 or so is more strenuous and has a lot more elevation gain. We were missing our hiking poles on the way back down due to some steep loose sections. Overall a fun, scenic hike with several nice waterfalls and a beautiful lake at the end. It took us just under three hours at an easy pace.

Great hike with a beautiful ending. One of my favorites. Mt Holy Cross overlooks the lake. Did this hike May 24th and there were still several stretches of knee deep snow, but you can mostly work around them with no trouble. Also, trees are down near the lake so it took a little creativity to get to the actual lake. We didn’t need microspikes or poles.

This trail is used predominantly by mountain bikers so this nice walk was sometimes interrupted by the need to jump out of the way. The 300+ foot ascent happens mostly in climbing the first ridge but after that it's a comfortable series of rolling walks, largely through wooded glens. And it smelled fabulous kind of like wood baking in the sun.

There are a few hikes with trailheads in the immediate area. You'll want to park in the section of the lot furthest from the Eagle Ice Rink and Pool building to find the Haymaker trailhead.

Great single track. Mostly uphill the first 3-4miles, great workout. Downhill is fast and fun

Great quick trail. Needs more signs. Sometimes is not very easy to know where you are and where you are going.

The beginning mile has a pretty good incline. Wasn't expecting that, but has beautiful views when you turn around. About 1.6 miles up we ran into snow which caused us to turn around. Heard some loud wilflife sounds which was cool and was nice and breezy. Good workout of a hike overall

We did this as a morning hike before flying out of Eagle. The trail is easy to find although I would probably give it an easy rather than moderate rating as it was mostly flat. This seems like it would be more entertaining to mountain bike.Overall it was okay, took us about 70 minutes to do the loop.

3/5 for hiking, 5/5 for bikes. Haymaker provides a wonderful view of the town of Eagle, CO as you ascend the slope. The trail is primarily for mountain biking. The tracks are well defined with many challenging curves, not for your average biker! Hiking wise, the ascent is not bad at all and the trail short. For people on foot, I would recommend it for travelers looking for a quick foot trip as they pass through town or runners and their pets.

Great hike, great views from high up. Some snow as you get into the high elevations.

Great views at the top if you go off trail to the north.

Great fishing

Not a bad hike. 6.2 miles round trip. Wish I would have had all day to fish and walk to the other lakes up the valley. Lots of brook trout. Nice places to set a tent. Good shelter/coverage of storms come in. First half of the hike is relatively flat, 2nd half a steady climb. Definitely worth the effort!

Great for lunch and a comfortable and beautiful hike.

Loved it step and a good exercise... I did the entire loop... Hike up to the cabin then hike down to the lake Charles then we add a mile more from Charles up to the Mystic island lakes and hike down trough the lake Charles trail.... Pretty much I made between 12-13 miles in total

Really pretty lake with pristine waters . There were so many bugs which detracted from the walk quite a bit for me.

So many other prettier hikes in the area. The wildflowers were gorgeous, though.

Still a lot of snow over the trail when you get about a mile out from the lake. But awesome view if you push through like I did!

Maybe one of the best hikes I have taken in Colorado. The fall colors were incredible and the lake is breathtaking.

Amazing hike! Hiked this trail a few weeks ago with our two children 8 & 10. Starts out fairly flat and then a pretty steep ascent up towards the lake. Beautiful hike with an amazing waterfall along the way. The lake was beautiful but hadn't been there 5 mins and got rained and hailed on. Would definitely do this hike again but just start earlier in the morning.

My favorite hike yet. Especially beautiful in the fall. I did not see anyone on the trail the day I went and the lake is gorgeous.
