Beautiful - we crossed the creek and went up He west side to the waterfall - about 9.5 miles round trip from the parking lot. Road to parking is very rough and it is further in than you think.

Beautiful views!!!

8 miles of shaded trail. Lots of hikers, dogs, and bikers were on the trail. Gudy’s Rest was easy to find and the view was pretty.

This is a great hike along the creek with a minimal elevation increase over the first 2.5 miles up to the point where the switchbacks start. A majority of the trail has shade on it so even in the heat of the day, it is a comfortable hike. Also, this hike is great for someone acclimating to the elevation gain.

This is a popular hike due to its proximity to Durango and we saw quite a few people and dogs and bikes on the trail although it was not overly crowded on a Tuesday late morning.

Hiked out to the bridge over Engine Creek on Cascade Creek East Fork trail. Beautiful hike was a little over 6.2 miles out and back from where I parked Jeep.

3.5 stars.

The Good: the quick rise from the stream bed to overlooking it at 40, 80, and 100 feet up; the conifer forest and wind whooshing through it; for me, the timing worked that I had the bench at Gudy’s Rest for 30 minutes to myself.; a Chimpumk; butterflies and the sound from the creek for most of the journey; 80% shaded; mountain bikers that were courteous; creek water to cool my head in before hearing back; amiable hikers, nude tots gleefully dipping in swimming holes; how easy it is to get to; “pay off” views at very top

The Meh: the creek bottom is perfumed by dog poo, especially on a hot day, the “heavily trafficked” amounted to about 50 people in a 4 hour span, going and coming

Logistics: clean pit toilet at trailhead; parked at lower; 8.7 miles is what I registered round trip from that location

This is a nice paved (cement and asphalt) trail following along the Animas River. The trail is wide and not difficult at all as there are only a couple of mild inclines along the way. It gives a nice look at Durango from ground level. I gave it a four due to its ease but also that it is a nice tour through Durango. We biked from 32nd ave on the north end to the south end just south of the new water treatment plant being built. We then walked from 32nd north to the end of the trail which is less than a mile and not worth doing.

nice trail . finding only 6.2 miles to waterfall. Road very rough r we commend 4x4 or high clearance.

Great views and a nice workout.

pretty shady and a stream nearby for 90% of walk so really good one for dogs. pretty easy. took 2.5 hrs with some jogging but also some dog stream play.

We went to hike this trail today (10 July 2018) and found that it is closed for an unknown time because of the 416 fire. A Park Ranger was there preventing parking at the trail head and hiking the trail. I gave it one star because I had to give a star to make the review.

We connected to this trail from the Cascade Village townhomes, where we are staying. This was a quiet trail - didn’t come across any other people. But be on the lookout and prepared- we did see a mama bear and a cub. The creek was beautiful and I loved all the flowers and butterflies on the hike. The route we took had great views of Engineer Mountain!

Enjoyable hike to relax along the creek. We had to cut it short with impending thunderstorms though.

We stumbled in to this trail and Did not expect much but wow it was really good. You have to pop into the stream it's electric!

Easy to find and well trafficked trail. I recommend going early to beat the crowds and mountain bikers. View from the top of the trail is well worth the elevation gain. If I lived in Durango, I’d make this trail a regular.

Wonderful hike. There are 3 falls. The first is at the bridge, the second is off the trail where trail splits. Take the trail to the left, and the third is again on the left where the trail opens up in the large meadow. I missed the last two heading up but found them on the way down.

Good trail, beautiful views!

Beautiful views, especially from the summit. A few felled trees across the trail, being removed. A couple remaining ice troughs, largely melted. Only a few scattered wild flowers, likely related to drought. Great hike.

Trail starts in the corrals! Really pretty incline hike with a nice view at the top. I'll be heading back when the aspens have some leaves.

Absolutely stunning and completely empty this time of year (April) . There were a lot of trees down but only one was hard to navigate around. Definitely a favorite!

I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! Great trail difficult with snow and ice in areas but still amazing! We took one trail up and a different one back crossing the creek on top of logs and rocks. It was so quiet and peaceful only seen one other biker. When we reached the falls with it was an amazing site the combination of snow, ice, and rushing water was worth every step. This was my first Colorado hike but won’t be my last. Thank you Colorado

The hike up to Gudy's nest was lovely. Went the day the trail opens (4/16) and it was perfect. Finding the trail head was easy & experiencing the San Juan Forest so close to town was a happy surprise. This is a must-do hike if you're staying in Durango. Green, not too strenuous, birds, deer, a few friendly hikers & their canine companions, and a calming river. It checks off all my boxes for sure! (*go during the week)

230 miles of Pure beauty. Start early, as you will want to stop for many pictures and a lunch, weather a picnic or stopping at an eatery. I highly recommend Baked in Telluride. All homemade and very reasonably priced.

Very muddy and the snow made it a very tough hike. Great views in some areas though. Not sure if going to the top of it seemed worth it.
Confusing to get too, horse corral look for the signs. Might be a better hike closer to summer time.

Great hike. Not to difficult at all.

Great hike. 2/3 flat, 2/3 uphill. A few patches of mud and ice but not bad.

really great views!
