There may not be a ton of drop dead views or challenging hikes but this place offers miles of easy hiking. You can see Pikes Peak and other mountains (further back on the property) The aspen groves mixed in with the pine are gorgeous. Great for fall foliage pics and in winter this place will be awesome for snow shoeing. Enjoy!

The reward at the end of this hike is so worth it. You get a 360 degree view! Breathtaking! The hike is moderate but if your not use to the altitude there are small spots that can be difficult. Rest take your time, enjoy the quiet and beauty along the way.

Lovely hike. I went clockwise but next time will go counter clockwise as I think this is the more scenic approach. Beautiful Aspen forests on the south side of the loop, lovely meadows, streams, and peaks to see on the northern side.
Lots of stream crossings. Fresh scat on trail just northeast of Dome Rock. Not sure if it was cougar or coyote. Be smart and safe when hiking.

great trail. great views

#twoenthusiasticthumbsup! start early and enjoy the views and a lunch at the top.

Crags trail is beautiful especially in the fall. The 360 view on the top was amazing and so worth the hike. It’s a little hard to tell where to stop but make sure you follow the trail up to the top! Great trail. One of my favorites so far!

Beautiful trail! I did it counter clockwise, would recommend doing it clockwise as it got steep at the end and I was out of gas. The leaves were turning their fall colors, just breathtaking. This is a great reminder of why I live here!

Did this trail with the family while carrying the young ones in packs. Wife had a difficult go up the first 1/4-1/2 mile but once it leveled out it was very pretty and would love to finish the pancake rocks portion sometime! Trail was clean, well marked and in good shape. I think moderate is a good classification

After following the advice re: going to dead-end of road and following 'old' trail to meet up with the new Crag's trail, I recommend to all who are not familiar with areas they will be hiking to use extreme caution/avoid attempting to utilize old' trails. The further I hiked from the trailhead the worse the condition of this old trail became to the point where 'guess-timation' kicked in (should have turned back at this point). After a bit of this, I decided against continuing so turned back and began my attempt to retrace my path only to discover that numerous washed out, dead-ended trails and false 'paths' resembled the 'old' trail.

If you have hiked certain areas for awhile, or enough in the past as to recognize other landmarks to guide you back to the trailhead,...then you may very well do okay. But for newcomers to areas to attempt to do so...on your way back toward dusk, or simply hours later after the sun's position has changed and the shadows under trees canopy distort the very slight markings which might/might not be the old 'trail', or, your memory of it's very slight existence becomes muddled,...be advised: the apprehension/possibility of spending a night in the woods only to pick up where you left off in the morning is not worth cutting off a smidgen of your hike to avoid a strenuous portion of a new trail.

Response to post below concerned about little boys carving names in teepee on Horse Thief Falls trail: I was there yesterday, saw the teepee and several marks made by past hikers. The teepee is not sacred, looks like it was made by someone with some time on their hands, using dead wood from the surrounding area.

Carving names into something that's not alive, nor an artifact, is not akin to harming live trees. One could make the same argument about whomever built the teepee in the first place. Shouldn't that person have been equally aghast about that?

I'm glad she didn't scold the mom in front of her little boys. We all have personal opinions and are usually better off keeping them to ourselves. Rating the trail as a 4 due solely to a personal reaction to someone else's behavior is no reflection on the quality of the trail. It is lovely and serene!

While not evident at first glance, the trail continues beyond the series of falls for a while. Absolutely beautiful!

Did this one in August, beautiful views. Long hike with a steady incline but not incredibly difficult. Bring lots of water and be prepared for the summit to be buzzing... with people who drove up : |.

Spectacular!

I'm a very experienced hiker in good shape and my wife is in good shape as well. We did this hike after having seen it on AllTrails. This trail was absolutely beautiful this time of year, very green, lots of small creeks, and we even picked some wild strawberries right off the trail. For whatever reasons we decided to do the hike in reverse. If you decide to do that, make sure you bring plenty of water. I usually carry less water and bring a filtration kit to resupply from streams. Most of the streams you cross are in the beginning, which means that is your only opportunity to fill up if you hike in reverse. Also, plan on crossing some streams, they were roughly knee height during ours.

Stunning views along the way, but the 360 at the top is icing on the cake. Get there early, the lot fills up fast, but you can always park at the lot for Raspberry Mtn and walk up the road a bit. It was hard to tell where our destination would be when we first started, but as you start the climb towards the end just make sure not to stop until you reach the top!

Wonderful trail. Road to mueller start is not paved and mostly single lane. Hike has a lot of variety and make sure to go to the very top of the rocks. The view is unbelievable.

Beautiful hike, spectacular view from the top. A little over 5 miles out and back. Perfect for a couple of non-mountain hiking Iowans.

Great trails to hike. Very safe.

Very nice ride.

The trail wound through beautiful Aspen groves and Meadows of wild flowers. At one point we took a wrong turn and got lost, but found d the right trail again pretty quickly. We will definitely be back!

This was one of my favorite hikes. Echo what others have said about it having it all. Amazing views and the Dome Rock is spectacular. Saw a bear walking along Dome Rock which was an added bonus. Be careful of the notes in the last couple wayfair markers on the All Trails Map, just follow the map rather than the notes. This was a GREAT hike, it’s long, but worth every mile. There is nothing to technical about the trail, the Hard rating I’m sure comes more from the distance. The stream crossings are easy, but bring sandals or water shoes. Look forward to doing this one again as the Aspens change colors in the fall.

Very cool trail.. it gets your heart rate up for sure. It’s well marked, easy to follow. We continued to pancake rocks and enjoyed the amazing views there. My 9 year old did it with no problems.

First couple of miles are easy. Really tough from 2.75 to about 3.75. The next two miles are the easiest of the hike, before the final ascent up some class two scrambling. I’d say the steep rocks are more like half a mile.

Hike 5: Horsethief Falls
Date: 10 Jul 18
Distance: 5 miles (out & back)
Duration: 2.5 hours
Notes: Located between Divide and Cripple Creek on Hwy 67. Rated as moderate on Alltrails but definitely on the easier side of moderate with the exception of the first section which is a bit steep. Being close to 10,000 feet elevation and carrying a 30lb toddler in a backpack definitely contributed to the difficulty though. Shouldn't take more than two hours for most we definitely took our time and explored. The falls were underwhelming but it can be expected since Colorado is so very dry right now. Great hike overall!

8-20-18 This was the first time for my wife and I. Hike was great. Like other reviews, first couple of miles were fairly easy. The next 2-1/2 were a little tough. Took occasional breaks. After the devils playground, pretty easy again. The last mile through the boulders was interesting and difficult.
Our map ap said 7.3 miles. We made it in 5 hours and 20 minutes. We’re happy with that. We live in Dallas and have never been at these altitudes. We opted to take the shuttle back to the devils playground and the hike back to the Crags trailhead . Drink a lot of water and enjoy the views.
