HikingGreat!Snow

You can park at the trailhead, or if you have OHV 4wd vehicle you could attempt the climb up, only saw one vehicle that did this. Snow covered path, but wasn’t hard to climb up- besides the altitude. I’m not from around here, so it was a little difficult for me, but I stopped a few different times. Getting up to the top was completely worth it. Beautiful views!!

Trail was more challenging than we expected and was not marked well past the first lake. We passed multiple people who were confused as to how to get to Mohawk lake. However, if you are good with navigating and don’t mind steep climbs, this trail offers awesome views of the mountains and lakes. Definitely would recommend gloves and hiking sticks during colder months.

HikingGreat!MuddySnow

Enjoyed this hike a lot. While most plants covered with snow it was cool to see signs with plant / tree types. Hiking through the trees in snow was so beautiful and a great experience. We ended up hiking about 1.5 miles and then turned back due to our timing and hitting some mud/slush. Very enjoyable hike with good views. Next time want to take all the way to Ptar Trail peak.

RunningMuddySnow

Tried to go running on this path today (and then tried to just walk as well) - couldn't get through it, way too muddy after about just 0.1 miles in! Great views of the Dillon Reservoir and mountains behind it though. Also, as far as I can tell from official maps of the White River National Forest, this is roundtrip ~8 miles, not 7.1 miles.

The hike up to the summit is somewhat uneventful, but does have some good views. Getting up to the top is worth it though because of the 360° view

SnowshoeingGreat!Snow

Snowshoed the trail a couple days after big, early snow storm. Extremely beautiful mountain top views, perfect amount of challenge for a morning hike. We loved the woods and meadows- however, the trails are not well marked in the meadows. We were thankful to have the tracks of some experienced trailblazer to follow and find our way.

Great Hike up to Lower Mohawk today. The snow made it a bit challenging as it melted some in the midday sun, and started to re-freeze as the sun set making the decent from Mohawk a little slick. The tracks in the snow from other hikers made it easier to follow the trail up to Lower Mohawk from Mayflower. Beautiful views at the top and overall a great day full of sunshine and no wind. A real treat for an Ohio guy looking soak in the majesty of Colorado.

Walking

I went walking here through some snow, and I proceeded to get lost because the trail wasn't super clear due to the snow. I ended up on Royal Buffalo Drive near Spring Beauty Drive, and then walked back to more or less the trailhead on the road. It was quite a pretty walk and definitely easy, not much elevation at all. Beware of the snow though!

Nice little trail with some great views. We went a few days after it had snowed and it was very muddy/ slushy. At the top, you can catch a gorgeous view of pine covered peaks and a snapshot of the Denver skyline.

HikingGreat!IcySnow

Pretty easy hike. The last 1/2 to lower Mohawk gets a bit steep, but even with 10 inches of fresh snow it was not difficult. The views looking back to the East after starting up the steeper parts is incredible, and lower Mohawk was a beautiful place to relax after the hike up. To make it a bit shorter, if you have a 4 wheel drive, pass the Spruce Creek Loop trailhead and continue up the dirt road to where the Wheeler trail intersects the road. From there you can either continue up the dirt road to meet up with the Mohawk Lake Trail or take the Wheeler trail down to Spruce Creek Trail and continue from there.
