Huff and Puff fo sho! Great hike. Amazing views at the top. Worst part is the last half mile coming down on the 4 wheel road.

HikingGreat!

As others have mentioned this hike is pretty strenuous especially the final climb to the summit, but it is well worth it for the views. Don't make the mistake we did and go through the main boulder field and follow the trail to the left as it's marked on AllTrails.

FeeGreat!

Beautiful mostly shaded trail along reservoir. Easy to moderate and well maintained. Only a limited number of permits per day which allows you to enjoy your hike without all the traffic of other hikes.

Great forest trail to take for a day hike! The views are wonderful at the top. Steep all the way up but worth it! The trail is in really great condition.

do not follow the loop as it puts you on a private property road. which we did not know until we were almost done

Trail was fantastic. We hit the trail around 6:30a and had it completely to ourselves. It’s covered all the way to the rocks, which was very pleasant. The inclines were moderate for sure but most folks should be able to push through it. I’m relatively out of shape and was able to keep a sub-30 minute per mile pace going up. You can do it, too! And the rocks at the top are a great spot to relax, get some photos, and have a bite to eat before heading down.

Terrific hike. Not too hard. Got there early - 7:30am’ish not too busy but as we were on the way out around 9 is was getting busy. The road into the trailhead is a skinny dirt road that you follow all the way to the end.

google maps doesnt actually take you far enough. when you get on the dirt road take it until it dead ends in a "lot". its circular. you'll pass crags and a further down a private drive on the left. keep right and go around the corner maybe an eighth of a mile. that's the trailhead parking

Somehow my map on All Trails was wrong, did not hike 40 miles.. we just did 7. We did this is a sunrise hike and were not disappointed. Driving in from Cripple Creek side was was easier than taking Gold Camp all the way! Glad I had the map downloaded (as others have suggested) as it was rather hard to follow at times. Great views, especially of the Peak! We saw no other hikers, which surprised me. Overall I would hike again :)

This was a gorgeous hike, but I would have rated it DIFFICULT. For a few reasons - trail was hard to follow. It did overlap with a new and still in work trail head. The Cairn's along the trail were SO helpful and likely the only reason we finished - so huge thanks to those who set them up and still maintain them. We set up a few additional as we were trekking through. Be SURE to check your map as you are finishing the loop as it's easy to lose your train of thought and forget you need to break off from the Crag's trailhead (look left - it's easy to miss). Def worth it, take lots of water and sunscreen. Don't recommend dogs unless they are skilled at bouldering. We ended up doing 9.8 total.

FABULOUS hike! We did both Horsethief Falls and Pancake rocks and doing them both was 7.5 miles. There is a steady uphill climb for the first 2 miles-- but then it's rolling, and gorgeous views and a great surprise end at the rocks. Very shaded and forest-y LOVED it!

If you drive all the way to the end of Crags Rd you will see a little parking area with a 704 sign to your right. If you follow the directions listed above you will stumble upon the falls with no issues. It was a great hike.. especially for an east coaster trying to get used to the elevation differences. Would love to do it again!

The drive up is BEAUTIFUL but its "eh" for the hiking effort on this one. Definitely a challenging hike for just good views; nothing spectacular. Be prepared for steep inclines both ways, TONS of bugs, and some scrambling, but not many people. Completed in just shy of 4 hours.

Through the woods so lots of nice shade until the top. Kind of tough for someone not use to the altitude and bring plenty of water. Beautiful views several places and especially at the top. Took us 4 hours but we are not 20 anymore!

I loved this hike! I felt very accomplished afterwards, it was challenging for me. The first road up is so steep that the motorcyclist next to me could hardly get his bike up. That hill is not fun to walk down either. Once you get past that inital hill, the trail becomes a nice balance for a little while. Make sure to download the map! Even with the map from AllTrails, I did some back tracking. The top is really the top when you reach the second peak with the solar panel on it. Just fyi. :) Great view of Pike's Peak.

As everyone else has been saying, this is a very strenuous hike. The trail is very steep and quite hard to descend without slipping once or twice. However, the views are incredible in Horsethief meadow and above the tree line. The cairns can be a bit confusing, but they are definitely easier to spot coming down. Only saw two other couples in the 5+ hours we were on the trail.
