We weren't as enthusiastic about this hike as some of the other reviewers, but it was enjoyable. If you have time on the north rim and want to see the canyon from another vantage point, certainly bust this hike out. But, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have disappointed if we wouldn't have had time for it. It was short and pretty easy, so I'll give it that. If you've done the pull-out view points and want more, this would be the next option.

Really did not care for this trail at all. It's about 90% hiking through the scraggly bush you see throughout the hills, which is fine, but the 'views' at the far end of the loop into the canyon were really nothing different or better than what you can see from the pull outs on the road. I would say there is no reason to do this hike, unless you just want to hike. We love hiking, and are used to doing 10+ mile hikes with elevation, but this just really didn't offer any reason to recommend it.

I hiked this trail yesterday.. it was awesome. The water looks so pristine. The hike down is as to be expected, easy. The hike back up is a challenge for an inexperienced hiker or for someone not acclimated to the altitude. All in all definitely worth the effort. 10/10 would do it again. 6 miles in total

My husband and I did this trail in mid July. Other than being quite hot and not much shade, we enjoyed it. Tip: take a right when the trail comes to a dead end (about 0.8 mile in), and then about 1.5 mile in take the fork that goes right down into the forest. It will spit you out at an overlook where you are looking down into the canyon! Great views. Bring lots of water and sunscreen!

Great view and easy hike!

This was an easy walk down an improved path and stone stairway to the overlook. There you can get cool pics and interesting info about the metamorphic rock that make up the walls of the canyon!

This is a great short hike. Off the beaten path, so definitely isolated. Gives a good view of Lamborn and Landsend Peaks. The last quarter of the trial is steep and loose, but worth it to get to the base of the rock! Good hike! The brush is a little thick at the top so wear pants and sleeves that don't snag. Saw and elk cow and her calf too.

Hiked 5/28/18, very few other hikers around. Steady incline towards the back end as you reach the summit. Views are amazing along the way definitely stop at exclamation point along the way!! The top has a lot of greenery but if you can stand up high the views are well worth it.

Great views of the Canyon.

Took the left fork of the trail just under the the 1.3 miles make which lead to the top the mountain but not the view point that I really wanted to see. Should have taken the right fork but didn't find that our until I met another hiker on the way back. Nice views just not the one that I thought.

Only made it up less that half way because it was too steep for my wife who isn't much of a hiker. Nice views

Wow what a view. My favorite view because you can look up canyon. Don't pass this one up

My GF and I hiked this trail a few days ago and really enjoyed the experience. The views from various points along the trail were stunning. From the summit of Green Mountain you can see so much of the surrounding area. A quick note: if you take the detour for Exclamation Point (which we highly recommend) it ends up being a little bit over 7 miles round trip. Also, by way of advance notice, you'll need to take along $20 for the entry permit. While you're there, don't pass up the short .25 mile Chasm View, which provides a safe way to view straight down into the Black Canyon and the Gunnison river below.

One of the best views in the park. It is right behind the visitor center, not the overlook right before you get to the visitor center. If you’re at the south rim, you have to go see this!

Great trail and views! Park sign say 6 miles, not 4.9..... and almost 1800' elevation gain. End of Nov and still very warm. Wonderful rock walking at bottom and beautiful driftwood.

A short walk down from the visitor center to an exposed and remarkable lookout point with amazing views down into canyon. Combine with the nearby Oak Flat Trail if you have time for the relatively short hike below the rim.

Just gorgeous, and ends at a truly spectacular overlook. However, wouldn't call it "hard" ~ more like moderate.

Very nice trail with an absolutely stunning view over the canyon from the green mountain vista point. The was almost no one else on the trail...very quiet.

Short walk from the VC, this trail provides some amazing views deep into the trench. This is a really cool NP often overlooked and has some great hikes along the canyon rim.

Trail gets somewhat hard to follow the higher you climb. Maybe someone should take a machete up there? Like stated before... view gets better the higher you climb.

Great starting point for a trip to Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Very crowded as it's adjacent to the visitor center, but still worth checking out.

I hiked this trail while camping at the North Ridge Campground. This trail is great and accessible to almost everyone. There are several incredible lookout points over the canyon. This would be a great hike for families and anyone looking for an incredible view that requires little effort. Be very careful near the cliffs with pets and children as there are no barriers.

Nice and easy-1 hour round trip. Almost stepped on a snake!

great hike. part of the north rim of Black Canyon National Park. don't skip exclamation point on your way up to the green mountain summit. we hiked it late in the day on memorial day weekend, so the crowds had mostly left by the time we got there. very peaceful and quiet.

Maintained trail with great views. Didn't get to the very end as the trail drops onto a shaded slope that was still snow covered (and it'd be a slide for life if you slipped while crossing the drift).

Great trail!

The Devils Corkscrew will teach you a thing or two! Be ready for the big uphill. Trail paved with stones in some areas.

Go hike it! Short and easy with amazing views from the north rim of the Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park. Be careful where you step, lizards and snakes galore with abundant cactus plants.
