Blessed that my house is adjacent to the south trailhead. I biked the trail at 4:30 am when the city was asleep and got to see the sunrise. Nothing short of magical It goes into Rock Island Trail at the north end so you can always extend your journey if 12 miles isn’t enough for ya!

Decent trail up until you hit Chelton road. Cross the road and you move into a homeless camp where the trail ends. Also had a turkey run out of a bush in front of me!

walked this with a friend while both pushing strollers. it was a great workout! trail is a little hard to follow the first time through but used the app and it was no problem. seems like a piecemeal trail and a little random. very exposed.

Never could figure out the trail. Lots of road crossing. Felt unsafe.

Very easy, great for an evening stroll. Lots of options on how long you want your walk to be. Not a lot of shade unless you’re at the park.

I run/walk this trail once a week. The portion from Airport Rd to Chelton Rd is good. Nicely maintained and I haven’t seen any homeless on this portion yet. Where the path crosses Academy is where things really go down hill. There are camps set up directly on the trail.

The trail is not very well marked, ended up getting mixed up on E San Rafael St and continued riding up N El Paso St until I realized I wasn't on the trail and managed to get back on at the E Fontanero St crossing. Otherwise, quite easy, not too crowded, good ride.

My rating is based on the fact that I do not live in this neighborhood - if I did, this would be a 4-star for easy access. I would not recommend this trail otherwise because of the lack of trail markers (if not for this app, there is no way I would have found the trail), and this is through residential areas, parks, crossing 3 major cross streets, and walking around an elementary school. Path is virtually all asphalt or concrete and heavily traveled. The trailhead begins at the High Chaparral Open Space - nowhere is there a sign that says Homestead trail. Once on the trail, you get to a crosswalk right past the Old Ranch Community Garden, and you must turn left there and go about 50 yards on a sidewalk before actually finding where the trail continues. This trail is in complete full sun, so go early if in the summer. When the trail meandered through a park, we could not find where it crossed into another area, so difficult to follow. I can see why many area residents use this for walking their dogs or a short run. I'm glad I tried it, but won't be going there again. I suppose it just depends on what you are looking for.

I only did a few miles of this hike. Some scenic views at certain spots. However, the trail itself breaks off at different points where you have to cross a street and/or use the map to try and figure out where you’re going - it’s not straightforward. Also, it’s classified as ‘easy’ but there are areas that are a bit of an incline - I would think easy would consist more of flat land or routes where you could take a wheelchair/stroller; so if you’re planning to bring someone in a wheelchair/stroller I wouldn’t recommend this trail.

I like this trail so much this is my third time doing it! The only thing I want to suggest now is maybe some Trash cans along the way. It’s dog friendly but nowhere to throw away a poop bag.
