No one is ever on this trail! So serene. My favorite is to take the connector to hurricane cyn and go down the incline.

Nice trail up to sections 2/3 of Ring The Peak- parking is not great- you park along the dirt road. Steep at the beginning but nice meadow at top.

Also, no parking at the trail head itself. You will have to park at the corner of Park St and Anemone Hill Rd. The rest of the way up is either a private drive or a snow plow turn off with no parking/tow signs.

Good workout. Wouldnt recommend taking a dog in the summer, mine was feeling the heat and incline, even though we started early. First mile and a half are brutal steep. Good views to the North and East up and down 24, and some really interesting rock gardens to stop in. You cant get to the lake (at least from this trail) as it is now part of the Manitou Watershed and there are signs forbidding entrance. The trail connects to 2-3 other ones though, so one of them may be able to get you closer to the lake. Some fantastic views of Pikes Peak once you crest the summit and start your way down the back side.

Great hike if you’re looking to get a good cardio workout in on a nice day! My gps tracker said it was about 7.01 miles round trip. Long switchbacks and loose gravel before getting to the top. Going down the back of the mountain is much easier with some incline but also the decline. Time was 3hrs and 35 mins round trip. Didn’t see any one else or animals, just birds and lots of insects

Great park...difficult terrain at times. Beautiful views.

This trail is lovely but also fetted by the noise of Hwy 24 for the first 3 miles or so. Elevation climb is significant to start and then levels off. Best part of the hike, in our opinion, occurs after summiting Mt. Cascade. The back side of the mountain opens into a beautiful meadow as the trail meanders through aspen trees and wildflowers.

My 6-month-old puppy and I ran this trail. The first couple of miles were hard and seemed to be straight up overall it was a good hike/run. The amount of gravel made it hard to run at some points. We did the whole trail in about 3 hours.

Nice trail. Followed a 4x4 road for about 1.25 miles then got to a single track hiking trail. Intersected with many other trails, so had to keep an eye on the Google map position. Beautiful hike and views from the high meadow and ridge along the east side of the loop.

I’ve done Heizer trail a few times now and here are just some things for people that aren’t familiar to be aware of. You gain about 90% of the elevation in the first mile. The switchbacks are covered with loose gravel, so you NEED a walking stick or trekking poles (there’s a pile of walking sticks at the starting point). Bring a snack for when you get to the end point, those switchbacks take a lot out of you and you still have to make the trek back to the car. Bring double the amount of water you think you’ll need (leave half in the car if it’s too heavy). Bringing a towel so you can dip it in the watershed and wrap it around your neck helps tremendously (that water is COLD). This trail has some shade, but also A LOT of uncovered trail. On average, it takes 4 hours to get to the end point (without many breaks) and 2 hours to get back to the starting point.
The switchbacks on that first peak seem to never end, but I swear they do! When you get over that first Peak and into the valley, you’ll be covered by trees and have views of Pikes Peak through the trees.
It’s a wonderful hike, just be prepared :)
I’ve also added photos to the album :)

Nice hike - decent incline at the beginning and gradually gets easier. Kept going for about 7 additional miles on Ring the Peak trail headed north west. It was fun to see the back of Pikes Peak!

stand atop boulder at top, take in Pikes directly South. The Rockies to the NW
great place to Airbnb- chipita park, Cascade Falls.

Very steep but easy to find an nice views

the parking is pretty crappy but once you get on the trail you realize pretty fast how steep it is. It's a long accent but at the top the views are top notch

Such a great trail... the perfect amount of challenging in the first couple of miles and then it evens out and has great views of Pikes Peak in the next couple of miles after that.

A challenging remote trail but the traffic noise really kills the vibe. Completely doable in just trail running shoes, even with all the gravel.

Did this hike 4/22/18. Got there pretty early around 8a and was pretty much the only one on the trail during the ascent. Trailhead is tucked away about a .25 mile from the sign for it - just follow road up to the left and you’ll see the beginning of the trail. Lots of switchbacks and pretty steady climb throughout, so it was definitely a good workout! Conditions - snow coverage throughout, but lots of melting happened just from the time I started to when I finished, so it was a little slick coming down with slushy/wet snow. Had some pretty nice views along the way though - best being about .5 mile from summit there’s an area at the turn of a switchback that overlooks the canyon.

Beautiful and lightly traveled hike. Got there right after the late spring snow, it was manageable without yaktrax, but they would have helped. Small parking area on the corner of Park and Anemone, short walk up to the trailhead

Awesome drive with great views! View the landscape that prompted the song, "America the Beautiful." I was there in December and it was insanely windy at the top, which froze your ears and hands, so bring warm clothes. If you get car sick, you might have issues during the drive, but there is plenty of horizon (albeit at a 20 degree angle) to gaze at to help calm the stomach. There is a nice gift shop and cafe with hot drinks and comfort food at the top. If coming from sea level, the elevation might make it difficult to breathe. I was able to run a bit at the top without too much trouble except a slight light head. But everyone responds differently to elevation. Bring your camera!

Great Hike! Wife carried a toddler on her back and our 6 year old hike the whole thing. very steep on the way up and can be slippery on the way down. Bring lots of water and maybe a snack.

great hike. pretty steep incline but def worth the effort. parking at the base might be an issue for some, so be prepared to walk to trailhead (through some residential driveway areas). very light patches of snow/ice. regular hiking shoes will get ya through just fine.

Beautiful and challenging!

Loved the challenge of the beginning of this hike, well worth the view at the top of Pikes Peak. Carried 30lb of toddler on the way up on my back and would do it again!

Fun and well-managed trail with a steep gradient and beautiful views that make it all worth it.

Great hike! We had the whole mountain to ourselves...on a Sunday! The views of Pikes Peak were beautiful at the top. The trail was snow packed so we did not bother to put on our YakTrax, we were fine in normal boots. Happy hiking!!

single track and enjoyable. Did it on Feb 18. Some sections had patchy snow. Normal trail shoes were enough.

Great burn at the beginning followed by serenity.

Great trail! Steep on the way up, so it’s a tough workout. But the trail is easy to follow, it’s easy to keep footing, nothing technical or tricky it’s very doable. And the meadow at the top is beautiful!

Trail was mostly in the snow toward the middle and top. Got pretty slippery on the climb and descend. We used regular boots without spikes. Recommend spikes if you got them. Trail connects to Barr Trail towards the end if you want to keep going. Great hike fun jog down.
