I agree this terrain is hard. Views are quite fantastic. This is bear country and saw a clear set of tracks on the trail at about mile 4. Bring your bear protection. 6 hour round trip with about an hour on the peak to enjoy the views and relax. Not your normal quick decent because of very loose footing.

Very peaceful

Definitely a nice trail, not very rugged, yet it's still pull of some pretty cool sights! I run this trail regularly, and enjoy it a lot.

Great easy hike but do it early or late in the day. There is no shade outside the tunnels and it is sunny and hot.

Pretty steep on the front end but man, once you get up there it really is super pretty and very worth it! My brothers, my mom, and I all did this trail and it was very pretty and serene!

A very nice trail! Easy to walk with a jogging stroller.

Very easy to access, with great scenery. The parking lot only accommodates a half dozen cars or so, and I imagine it gets pretty hot in the middle of the day during summer months as there is little shade. Saw a lot of birds, too. Worth it, would 100% do again.

Good trail. Only steep in the beginning and the trails good enough that you could take a jogging stroller.

nice, easy trail. we went in July at 7:30 in the morning and the mountain kept us shaded almost the entire time and the temps were cooler Waiting until later in the day makes for a very sunny, very hot hike as the sun bakes the rocks. as others have mentioned, there is a steep incline at the trailhead but flat and easy the rest of the way.

Only about 2 tunnels at the beginning and the rest is flat but the views are great!

Very easy and very beautiful. Sounds of the river are lovely. Many places to stop and sit and take it all in. The tunnels make this trail very unique

Great walk with the kids (under 5). As others said steep incline at the beginning but flat after. Not busy - saw runners, bikers and a stroller.

Great trail. Straight walk. Go through a cool tunnel. Over looks the Gorge river the entire walk. Beautiful scenery. Full sun in the summer time

Very good trail! A steep incline in the beginning is followed by flat terrain for the rest of the hike. The tunnels are really cool, and there are some good views along the way. I would definitely recommend this trail if you’re close to Cañon City.

It was so beautiful ! The beginning may be a tad steep for the elderly or the, not so active, folks.. but the flattens out and goes along the railroad track and river. Was a very easy, laid back hike. Bring water and stay hydrated on any trail!

Very well maintained trail, Saturday morning parking lot was half-full. You can tell there has been many rock-slides on the trail...be careful.

Most of the trail is uncovered, sunscreen recommended.

Riverwalk very well maintained and an amazing trail. Could not believe it was not busy on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Some of the trail had tree cover, sunscreen optional.

There is more parking at the end of the trail-head east-side part, and also in the middle area.

If you follow the exercise stations, the trail follows along the Arkansas river. The other trail goes through a wooded area.

awesome and interesting trails

First 30 min or so is very steep, so make sure to take a slower pace. Elevation gain is high throughout, so unless you are challenging yourself, give plenty of time (at least 5 hours?) to get to the end and come back. I started at 2 pm and it was already getting dark by the time I hiked for 1 hour and 40 minutes up, so I had to turn around and come back. Coming down took around 1 hour, but it was much more slippery downhill, and I slipped numerous times on my sneakers. Make sure to bring lots of water (half a gallon, at least), snacks and good shoes unless you want some sliding fun time.

Not technically a hike but really beautiful! The caves were awesome and the trail is nicely maintained, all gravel. If I lived nearby I’d walk it frequently!
