The southern section from Nederland to the bus stop on Gold Hill Rd was perfect today. Pretty much any stock 4x4 with decent tires should be able to handle it. The north section from the bus stop to Ward is pretty deep. Ground clearance and taller tires is a must. Two of us bellied out 3/4 miles in.

Pretty slick and snowy, but well worth it.

This has been rebuilt and much steeper than before!!! Trail is going from rock step to rock step and kinda like doing high hurdles... lifting each foot up high but worth it

Great first hike of 2019! I really recommend microspikes as it is slick and icy.

Need spikes right now on this one.

Muddy and snowy in parts going up the trail but not enough to need spikes. East Ridge trail and at least parts of Lions Lair did.

Did this trail last weekend up to Sanitas and took Sanitas trail down. Snow packed for a good amount with a thin layer of snow. Going down Sanitas was much trickier with ice. Beautiful way to climb Sanitas.

Challenging climb but worth it!

Nice long trail with some beautiful mountain views. Many signs posted stating no dogs, but unfortunately looks like locals still take their dogs on walks there (we saw two, one off leash). It’s a shame, as it also passes a raptor breeding area. Hopefully more people will respect the rules/wildlife in the future! Trail is heavily rutted, so can be muddy after snow. We parked at white rocks trailhead.

Hiked on 1/13, after it snowed a day earlier. Most parts of the trail were snow-packed but not too slippery or icy. The back areas looked like a winter wonderland. Parts in the sun where the snow had melted were extremely muddy. Overall, a beautiful, easy-ish hike for a sunny winter day, we saw some other groups with dogs on the trail but it wasn’t crowded by any means.

Did this in the evening 1/17. Trail is completely clear of snow— a little muddy in certain parts. This route is very rocky and has lots of big steps. I have bad knees so going downhill was rough. I’ve done this hike from the east ridge before and prefer that route (via goat trail). Less crowded on that route and not so rocky.

Pretty but super icy and muddy! 01/17/2019.

This is a great, easy hike. Very beautiful!

It was snowing when I did this trail last week, but still completely doable. I didn't want to snowshoe or struggle to get to a trail head, but still wanted nice views. This hike checked all the boxes. I wore spikes, but you could easily do the trail without them. Even in the snow, I passed several other hikers. I imagine it's a very busy trail when the weather is better.

This hike was so enjoyable, with hardly any huffing and puffing. Nothing but spectacular views from top to bottom. To top things, we only saw one other hiker. You can see everything from the top including the Indian peaks wilderness, and I am pretty sure even longs peak to the north. You could still see boulder also. This is a great beginner’s hike. It was breathtaking with all the snow called vistas!

beautiful trail and perfect weather on 1/14. 6-8 inches of snow on each side of the trail, moderately packed snow on the trail itself. used micro spikes pretty much all the way.

easy fun hike with good views! I went during the sunset. took a few breaks but otherwise quick hike.

Rangers recommmended that I did not go up the royal arch without micro spikes! Flat irons loop was icy and snowy as it is!

Pretty. Nice incline. Brought my 70lbs greyhound and the up was fine but going down was too steep with big rocks to climb over, so we had to go down Sanitas and take neighborhood roads back to the car. I won't take it again.

I hit this trail around 1:30 on Saturday afternoon, fresh snow from the day before made for a beautiful and peaceful hike! I had my snowshoes with but did not need them. took around 1 1/2hrs at a casual pace, with a few minor detours.

Just came back from Switzerland Trail, it was really nice and easy with great views until we passed Gold Hill Rd going North. Andrea below wrote a warning but I totally didn’t see it. I would not recommend going that last stretch of the trail, at least not this time of the year. It gets extremely narrow and slippery. The back end of our 4Runner (on brand new Wildpeaks) almost slipped off the trail. I was able to save it but we had a really hard time, and turning around was almost impossible. We were finally able to turn around without damage but it took over 2 hours. On the way back we saved a Dodge Ram that was also having a difficult time.

Great views. Did trail clockwise so went up the stairs which felt safer. Trail was snow covered and deep in places. No ice but should wear micro spikes

a challenging hike especially if you’re not used to the elevation. Incline right away and pretty much the whole time, but definitely worth it.

Amazing trail! The person who commented three below me is correct- there is no trail labeled "Super Betasso" but the other trails are well marked. Just went today and small spots of ice but nothing serious. We will be back!

Enjoyed this for a leisure hike. We went in the evening to peak at night and the night views and star gazing were really cool. The paths can be icy, especially at night. Avoided the crowds by going at night.

Definetly the hardest hike I’ve been on, bring lots of water and a small snack. If you’re from the Midwest like myself be prepared for the elevation difference, lots of yawns.

One of my favorite trails! So beautiful. We did the loop counter clockwise, it seems like it could have been a little easier to do it clockwise though.

Amazing hike with 360* views - I can’t recommend this hike enough! Loose rocks almost the entire trail, might be a bit difficult for some. Completed 1/8/19.

We saw 20-30 other groups out on this trail during our 3 hour hike today. Gorgeous views. No snow on the trail, but icy in spots as was mentioned a few days ago.

Okay, the route I did isn't listed here, but this is the closest to it...I did Gregory Canyon to Long Canyon, then connected to Flagstaff and basically went off trail until I hit the Green Mountain West Ridge trail, then took that to the Green mountain summit. So stunning, peaceful, hardly anyone else on the trails.
I WILL say - the descent was ROUGH. I probably should have flipped my ascent and descent. I took EM Greenman down, which connected to Saddle Rock. Spikes and/or hiking poles are needed! seriously! I'm not one for fancy gear, but there were a few times where my trekking poles absolutely saved me from wiping out on the ice. Some steep parts of the trail are solid ice and I had to find other routes.
Bring layers and water and all that, enjoy and respect the beautiful medicine that is nature.
