Nice hike in the woods. Keeps things cool. It’s a constant climb. I didn’t make it to the saddle

This is a difficult hike, but very rewarding once you get to the top. The views are worth it! There were some wildflowers when I went, but I think I missed the peak time for flowers this year.

Awesome hike. I would rate this hike as difficult. I did it as a youth more than 40 years ago and it hard then. I am 57 years old my wife and I did this beautifull hike today. it took us 6.5 hours to complete. We took our time a we were rewarded with breath taking views just above timberline. I would highly recommend this lightly traveled trail.

Backpacked in to Helms lake 8/6 - 8/7. A bit marshy getting around helms lake but the trail was in good condition and relatively easy to follow otherwise. Lost a blue nalgene somewhere in the helms lake area.

Awesome trail with dispersed camping spots easy to find. Light elevation gain for first 2.5 miles and then it increases significantly thereafter. Excellent camping right after the first creek crossing at 2 miles in. There are flattened logs to walk across so no getting wet during the creek crossings. We went further and camped just short of Helms Lake (5.25 miles in) in the tree-covered area. Wonderful views and a few dispersed campsites easy to find.

I took a friend from out of town on this trail on Tuesday and we were almost completely alone. We saw one other couple on mile one then no one for the entire rest of it. It was great, the views form the pass were awesome. We sat on a rock and ate lunch, you have a great view of Mount Evans from there. The 4 solid miles of climbing wasn't the easiest but certainly not too bad. I took someone who lives at sea level and he did just fine with it.

Easy enough for our first trail since putting a 4" lift to our 4d JKU with 33s.(soon to be 35s) My husband and I split up the trail so we'd each have some fun driving. This is our 4th Jeep between the two of us;first one we've lifted ourselves, so a good "trial" run to see where we want to adjust. I could see how some mud during certain times could cause some issues, but not too bad. Nice, mellow 4x4'in trail to loop around in a couple hours.

I hiked this trail last weekend, for the first time. In my opinion, it is moderate/hard because it gets steep at the top. Despite earlier reviews, the saddle is about 6 miles from the trailhead. I hike another 1.5 miles down toward the lakes but had to turn around due to time. The descent from the saddle can be pretty tricky at certain points.

Very rugged and technical trail, very rocky in some spots. Make sure your clearance is high enough for some of the obstacles, although you can opt to go around some of them. Was there on Friday and seen only a couple other people, wish there was more. We went right down the first decline (or drop in) to the gulch, made it to the mid point of the trail before getting confused and decided to turn around and go back the way we came. All in all it was a great little quick and fun trail to get my feet wet.

Absolutely beautiful hike. The view from above the tree line is spectacular!!

One of the best routes I've run on. lots of tight manuevers and crawling options. rocks are razors, hills are monsters. Don't bring a stock rig you wanna keep.

Fun trail and in good condition after the recent rains!! You definitely need a higher clearance vehicle and 4-Lo to navigate the technical areas, but I think a stock Jeep could make the loop as long as the driver is careful/skilled with wheel placement. Most of the trail was Easy/Moderate with several stretches that had difficult sections (or you could take a “moderate” bypass). Good challenges on the difficult climbs and very scenic terrain. Looking forward to doing this one again.

Great trail, beautiful scenery with ample camping. We wanted to camp up at Helms lake but it was extremely buggy so made our way back down. It wasn't an overly crowded trail and finding camping was pretty easy.

Lots of wildflowers folks!

we ran this trail yesterday.

a couple of snow piles nothing you could navigate the trail was clean and easy to navigate well kept and a lot of fun. Mostly dry except in the valley. this would be easy for just about any vehicle with a moderate list. hell of a lot of fun.

Just completed 2 day back packing trip. Great camping sites and lots of room to roam. Menacing weather kept us from making Abyss Lake day 2. Awesome wilderness area!

This was a fun trail for the most part. From pavement to pavement, took about 90min total. There are a few rocky spots that are fun for sure. Don’t let the difficult rating scare you off. It’s worth doing. We will go back.

Amazing and beautiful and predominantly quiet. The only people I came across were on the return trip and on the Bierstadt and Evans ridges. Plenty of wildlife. Evans and Bieratadt are accessible by climbing out of the cirque. That way you can avoid the ultra crowded standard routes. The views everywhere are amazing.

It gets rather hard to follow the trail on the east side of Helm's Lake. It isnt a very hard bushwack as its just waist high willows and only for fairly short lengths of time.

The trail is not accessible, as far as we could see, from the trailhead parking lot. You have to hike on tanglewood trail for a mile, then take a right and head over to Rosalie to get on it. It is beautiful, a little challenging, and the terrain is varied. we backpacked in and stayed just a couple miles in. There weren't too many people and the stream is wonderful.

Definitely on the more difficult side of "moderate" due to the long steady climb and the rocky terrain (careful on the way down). Gorgeous views past treeline and lots of places to explore once you get to the saddle at around 4 miles in. Very dog friendly with lots of water along the way and shade until you get past treeline. Lots of wildflowers at this time.

Hiked to the lakes. They were absolutely stunning. This hike is at altitude and is a constant uphill and to reach the lakes, you have to walk around 11 miles or so. But, they’re well worth it!

Started around 9 on Sunday and didn’t see anyone on the way up. Made it just past the tree line and my dog started getting really tired so we turned around. Saw lots of people on the way down. Great for dogs! Loved the shade and stream access for most of the hike. Wildflowers were amazing!

Just wrapped up this trail. Bottom part is very mellow and well maintained. To be expected the trail gets a little faded above tree line. Helms lake and Abyss are beautiful and the trail offers amazing views all the to the South Park valley. It was a beautiful hike well worth the trip.

Beautiful trail surrounded by a lot of Aspen trees! View gets sort of boring one point but very private, and only ran into 1 person. Nice and quiet beautiful trail to mark off from my book.

We're so disappointed! First of all, the map to get to this place was WRONG. It took us to a private residential area and had to ask someone about this place. He told us it was the other side of the highway. (Duh, map!) Then when we got there, there were a bunch of jeeps and a park ranger told us that we can still hike but have to drive slow to get to the "trailhead". With my SUV, I was barely able to go though such rough road and not even consider as a hiking trail. We turned around and left this place. This is not a hiking trail and should NOT be on here. Wasted great amount of our time!

Awesome leg workout. Great for dogs. Not crowded.

I hiked up to the saddle, about 4.1 miles. The views from the saddle were excellent, but I confess that it was a constant climb that I found taxing. Age and fitness had a lot to do with that. Declared victory at the saddle and didn't go to the lake.

Only hiked up 1.5 miles but great scenery, beautiful wildflowers, and dog friendly! Some creek crossings require stepping on rocks to get across but easy to do.
