Nice hike in the woods. Keeps things cool. It’s a constant climb. I didn’t make it to the saddle

Really loved this trail. It was 60 and breezy and beautiful. We went on August 19, 2018. Saw a few people but very peaceful and lovely. Loved walking next to the creek the whole way!!

This is a difficult hike, but very rewarding once you get to the top. The views are worth it! There were some wildflowers when I went, but I think I missed the peak time for flowers this year.

Awesome hike. I would rate this hike as difficult. I did it as a youth more than 40 years ago and it hard then. I am 57 years old my wife and I did this beautifull hike today. it took us 6.5 hours to complete. We took our time a we were rewarded with breath taking views just above timberline. I would highly recommend this lightly traveled trail.

Backpacked in to Helms lake 8/6 - 8/7. A bit marshy getting around helms lake but the trail was in good condition and relatively easy to follow otherwise. Lost a blue nalgene somewhere in the helms lake area.

Awesome trail with dispersed camping spots easy to find. Light elevation gain for first 2.5 miles and then it increases significantly thereafter. Excellent camping right after the first creek crossing at 2 miles in. There are flattened logs to walk across so no getting wet during the creek crossings. We went further and camped just short of Helms Lake (5.25 miles in) in the tree-covered area. Wonderful views and a few dispersed campsites easy to find.

I took a friend from out of town on this trail on Tuesday and we were almost completely alone. We saw one other couple on mile one then no one for the entire rest of it. It was great, the views form the pass were awesome. We sat on a rock and ate lunch, you have a great view of Mount Evans from there. The 4 solid miles of climbing wasn't the easiest but certainly not too bad. I took someone who lives at sea level and he did just fine with it.

Great Hike , close to Denver .
loved hiking next to creek all throughout the time.

great cascades, beaver ponds, flowers, birds, meadows

Easy enough for our first trail since putting a 4" lift to our 4d JKU with 33s.(soon to be 35s) My husband and I split up the trail so we'd each have some fun driving. This is our 4th Jeep between the two of us;first one we've lifted ourselves, so a good "trial" run to see where we want to adjust. I could see how some mud during certain times could cause some issues, but not too bad. Nice, mellow 4x4'in trail to loop around in a couple hours.

I hiked this trail last weekend, for the first time. In my opinion, it is moderate/hard because it gets steep at the top. Despite earlier reviews, the saddle is about 6 miles from the trailhead. I hike another 1.5 miles down toward the lakes but had to turn around due to time. The descent from the saddle can be pretty tricky at certain points.

Nice quiet hike along a creek. Opens into a meadow with nice views. Then the trail continues through a large aspen grove. We went about 2.5 miles and had to turn around due to the time.

Lots of shade, which was perfect for our pug who we brought along. We went just about 2 miles then turned around. The sound of water below was awesome and the view when you get to the open field is beautiful. We arrived at 830am in a Sunday and there were only 2 other cars in the lot. By the time we made our way back we ran into a few small groups of people and the parking lot was full (it is a small parking lot though). I’d suggest getting there early at or before 8 on a weekend if you are looking to be one of the only ones on the trail. But it did not feel overly crowded like some other hikes in the state. It was perfect!

Very rugged and technical trail, very rocky in some spots. Make sure your clearance is high enough for some of the obstacles, although you can opt to go around some of them. Was there on Friday and seen only a couple other people, wish there was more. We went right down the first decline (or drop in) to the gulch, made it to the mid point of the trail before getting confused and decided to turn around and go back the way we came. All in all it was a great little quick and fun trail to get my feet wet.

One of the best routes I've run on. lots of tight manuevers and crawling options. rocks are razors, hills are monsters. Don't bring a stock rig you wanna keep.

Fun trail and in good condition after the recent rains!! You definitely need a higher clearance vehicle and 4-Lo to navigate the technical areas, but I think a stock Jeep could make the loop as long as the driver is careful/skilled with wheel placement. Most of the trail was Easy/Moderate with several stretches that had difficult sections (or you could take a “moderate” bypass). Good challenges on the difficult climbs and very scenic terrain. Looking forward to doing this one again.

Average hike. River and stream. Hot in July.

This trail was great. Lots of shade, you walk along the water, great for dogs. The wildflowers are in full bloom. Make sure to get there early as parking fills up. There is no trash service at the trailhead. Lots of backcountry spots along the trail.

Great hike with amazing views!

Great trail, beautiful scenery with ample camping. We wanted to camp up at Helms lake but it was extremely buggy so made our way back down. It wasn't an overly crowded trail and finding camping was pretty easy.

Great trail lots of shade, sod ground, good for the pups. Get there early short on parking fills up fast

Love this hike! I live down the road from the trail head so in good weather do it daily. Great conditioning for longer hikes. The views are incredible from the top!

Lots of wildflowers folks!

we ran this trail yesterday.

a couple of snow piles nothing you could navigate the trail was clean and easy to navigate well kept and a lot of fun. Mostly dry except in the valley. this would be easy for just about any vehicle with a moderate list. hell of a lot of fun.

Just completed 2 day back packing trip. Great camping sites and lots of room to roam. Menacing weather kept us from making Abyss Lake day 2. Awesome wilderness area!

This was a fun trail for the most part. From pavement to pavement, took about 90min total. There are a few rocky spots that are fun for sure. Don’t let the difficult rating scare you off. It’s worth doing. We will go back.
