Absolutely gorgeous and great to bring dogs. The altitude of 6,000 ft was a little hard for me at first but it only took me 15 min to get acclimated and renew my energy. Clean and well maintained trail. A little cold but not too bad with layers. Worth it!

I don’t believe this trail is closed. The campground may be closed but the trail itself is not. Park in the dirt lot just north of the campground entrance and walk past the gate to access the trailhead. No indication of the trail being closed.

Nicely marked loop trail through fir forest, soft pine needle footing much of the way, up to top of peak, nice views of mountains, Lake Isabella.

Such a pretty trail. Pretty cold though, bring layers. Still areas with snow. Find a walking stick to help with the climbs. Kids really enjoyed this hike.

The trail is a dirt road, very steep in some parts, not sure this should be listed as moderate. The views are great at the top though and saw a large family of quail.

Great for a casual jog or mountain bike. Was awesome to hike as well. Go counterclockwise for easier climb.

One of our favorites. We definitely didn’t take into consideration that it was chilly but we warmed up on the hills.

Was so much more than I expected, and not hard at all. Only downfall was the amount of smoke from the wild fires (which is no fault to the trail) will absolutely be back

Nice trail. A little warm and not much to see the first half. Some neat water crossings if it was flowing. Will go back in spring when there are some wild flowers.

Glad I made the trip. Start early though if it’s warm. The path to Isabella peak is full sun. As you come around to the mine trail it is mostly shade. I love this because it’s a well marked trail and well walked. It starts in Hungry Gulch campground on opposite side of lake. As I was leaving I saw the campground peeps stapling a closed sign on the campground gate and didn’t get a chance to ask them if it was for trail as well. I hiked this starting at 8am on 10/12/2020

HikingBlowdownGreat!Rocky

This is a great trail. Great views, plenty of oak, pine, cedar and elderberry. Parts of it get rocky and steep. If you are untested or out of shape (like myself) or if you have bad knees, it can be a difficult hike, but worth it. Take plenty of water, wear a good pair of boots and take a walking stick . . . and enjoy the love out of it.

Lots of shade and beautiful views! An ideal trail for beginners, better on a cool day and wear hiking boots for the decline.

I have been coming up here all my life (46) years and never knew about this trail. Great little shaded hike. We saw about 40 people on the trail so it is pretty popular. Due to the Castle fire the views were hazy and it was a bit Smokey. Lots of dogs on the trail too. I would highly recommend it in cooler, smoke free conditions. Well marked and easy to follow. There is a sign in sheet at the view point.
