I don’t believe this trail is closed. The campground may be closed but the trail itself is not. Park in the dirt lot just north of the campground entrance and walk past the gate to access the trailhead. No indication of the trail being closed.

Hiking

there's a cave on the right side of the road about 2 miles out. be sure not to miss it! the first two miles were cement (not ideal for hikers) I didn't run into too many vehicles. It seems the 'trail' is mostly used by ATV, motor bikes, and horses.

There is some cool indian grinding holes if you look for them! steep at some parts. Large red salamanders in the creeks.

Nice trail. A little warm and not much to see the first half. Some neat water crossings if it was flowing. Will go back in spring when there are some wild flowers.

BlowdownOff trail

It isn't really a trail, its just the hot springs. I found it too crowded and there was a lot of trash. I wouldn't recommend it.

Glad I made the trip. Start early though if it’s warm. The path to Isabella peak is full sun. As you come around to the mine trail it is mostly shade. I love this because it’s a well marked trail and well walked. It starts in Hungry Gulch campground on opposite side of lake. As I was leaving I saw the campground peeps stapling a closed sign on the campground gate and didn’t get a chance to ask them if it was for trail as well. I hiked this starting at 8am on 10/12/2020

Nature trips

Easy walk to the springs, especially if you park at the end of the parking lot. I recommend arriving early, around 10am is when it started to pick up and get crowded. The springs themselves are kept clean. You can easily unplug and empty out the spring and refill with fresh water. Please take your trash with you.

HikingBugsGreat!Rocky

It’s effortless to get to. You literally drive to the entrance and walk two minutes to the springs. There were several people at night for the full moon. I can sense some partying and locals kind of drugs vibe, but if you are friendly and keep to yourself, it’s all good. The springs are pristine and clean. A lot of people leave trash, but I also saw a huge garbage bag sitting on the side for people to put their beers cans—lots of those. I think the best time to come is before sunset until probably 9 am when a lot more people go, and it’s hotter. I don’t see how you can enjoy the springs during the day with the high temperature. It was pretty hot at night, but pleasant. I think you should try it and enjoy it for what it is.

Walking

Gets too busy too quickly similar to the other hot springs in the area. Stay away from here & use your time on the weekend for some other activities- this place was packed at 9am on Saturday :(

WONDERFUL day. Woke up bright and early to drive up from LA. I loved the quiet forest and whispering breeze.

Hiking

Hot and dry during the summer months. The hike up is really a 3-star-- with the shade of dry scraggly trees being the main redeeming quality. The way down is a solid 4 however as the views are much better. Also things cool down later in the evening. Be sure to jump in the Kern River afterwards (some good drive up spots a few miles south on Rt 178).

Super difficult this time of year. Super hot and no shade. We left at 10am and hiked 5 miles of it. Returned at 1pm. Good parking and easy to find.

HikingNo shade

Do not hike this during summer! horrible idea. My husband and I thought it'd be a nice hike if we started early but it got really hot very quickly, no shade, and we had to turn around about the end of the hike. We also did not know it's an actual road and you definitely have to hike through the bushes to get to the water part of this hike. I think we'll try this again during the cool winter days. We did 5 miles altogether. It was a butt kicker.

Hiking

This trail is fun and pretty easy for the first few miles. It would be a super idea for a picnic at first or second creek crossing. Around mile 3 it begins a steady incline that definitely gives you a cardio workout all the way to the top. There were times I told friends hiking with me it felt like my heart was beating in my mouth! That’s some workout! There are perfect photo opportunities. Lots of beautiful wildflowers, some butterflies, and a lizard or two. Don’t forget water and possibly other hydration. I went through 48 liters and wished I had more. Also, a few snacks are highly recommended if you’re going to the top. Round trip really is about 16 miles. Bucket list Get out and love nature!

Trail was a bit rocky and difficult to manage for an older woman. Water and trees were beautiful! Some hot Springs were too hot to go in. Otherwise, had a great day!

Great little hike made it about halfway with my 9 yr old son. If you explore the creeks there are plenty of critters to be seen!

RunningOver grown

First three miles are easy and have four stream crossings. Gradually steeper after mile three. Beautiful Jeffrey Pines after mile 6. I had to duck a few times to keep out of the bushes near the top. Trail could use some hedge trimming.
