HikingGreat!

Did this hike yesterday and then picked up part of the Cache Creek Ridge Trail. Water sources were dry, but we were carrying plenty of water for us and the dog. Lots of wildlife sign along the trail. Plan to do an overnight backpack trip here in the future.

Great side by side riding trail! Must be on alert for all other people on the trail (cars mostly) it was minimal today but o could see this place gets busy as there are camping, lake access and shooting spots scattered throughout the trails. This is best used for a relaxing scenic drive. We parked at walker ridge road at highway 20. Luckily our friend went a few weeks ago and knew off the 20 had its own parking area. This app wanted us to drive way up the windy road with a trailer. The parking area is huge and all dirt.

The map linked to this is actually the ridge trail and is open to MTB. Wilderness boundary is well marked. Recommend taking the the single track adjacent to hwy20 them up the drainage to the ridge trail. Otherwise climb out of parking lot is fairly significant. I rode to the Lynch canyon trail intersection then out lynch canyon and took a route back up hill to the ridge. 12.9 mile loop. If I do it again I’d ride all the way out lynch canyon to hwy20 then ride the hwy shoulder back up to Judge Davis trailhead. Good trail, some knee high grass if walking. Some rough spots due to horse traffic in mud and dried out crevices. I didn’t go down to the creek. Maybe I’ll stash the bike and walk down next time.

I did more than the 3 miles on here, and will say it was interesting to see the defunct kitchen at the intersection of trails. I've been out here in April May, and June and it is getting almost unbearably hot if you don't have enough water. I drank 5 L. Carried 3 in and used my filter to get more.

This was a really nice day hike before my 5 p.m. dentist appt. My pauses are 1st to use the vault toilet which was open. 2and to pee and reapply sunblock; here I had drunk a full Liter of water already. 3rd pause to eat lunch. 4th pause I had already drunk my second Liter of water and had to reapply sunblock again. Even though there were 3 ponds on trail with water I brought 3 Liters with me. Was a good amount. There were almost no clouds but a fourth of the time a nice breeze would blow and cool me down. Did not run into anybody other than other cars at the Cowboy Camp lot.

Good easy trail. Don’t need 4x4 on the main trail but like mentioned in a other review there are other 4x4 worth trails that branch off. Great views too

Trials are VERY muddy when it rains! They are not marked well either and the splits off of the cowboy trail on this map it's called "three ponds" are not easy to navigate. This was fun but definitely challenging in the rain and mud! The horses are cool to hike with and there is a little hut that you can stop and take shelter in. We started in the cowboy campground and hiked the three ponds to the Thompson trail. I tried to do a loop but one of the trials was closed so if you are looking to hike through Brophy canyon to bear creek you won't be able to as the trail is closed

This is one beautiful hike in the early spring after a wet winter. I was so enamored by the scenery it took me 2 hours to go 3 miles. If the river is high, then the best way to get across after parking at the High Bridge Trail head in the BLM parking lot is to walk north on 16 across the bridge. Hop over the boulders, and walk up and around to the trail on the west side of the river. About 3.5 miles to the ridge just beyond the pond is where the loop begins. Two signs point down to Cowboy Camp and Thompson Canyon. The other sign to the west/left does not show a name, but it is the other direction for 3 Ponds Trail, just as shown on the map.

Mountain bikers, trail is closed to biking until 3rd weekend of April each year. Make sure the trail has had several days to dry or face very slippery and thick mud.

this trail system is great. I wish I had more time. there is no phone service when you start, so download the map. that's how I got lost... but you get service a couple miles up on a ridge. I will definitely be back.

I've been going up and down Walker Ridge road for over 20 years now. It's a well maintained dirt road, but not really a 4x4 trail. I've taken small compact sedans over it many times. There are however lots of smaller dirt trails that branch off of Walker Ridge road that are 4x4 worthy. If you want more of an off road adventure, try taking one of the smaller trails that turn off of Walker Ridge road.

We decided to check out this trail late in the day on our way home from Stonyford. I’m sure it’s beautiful during the day and the stars were amazing at night but I’d suggest a morning start instead of evening so you can take in the views. The road though was just that, a road. It had a bit of washboard and potholes but I definitely wouldn’t classify it as a “hard” off-road trail for a 4WD. With the elevation changes and length is sure would classify for a hike.

I went here on a rainy day in November. Nice drive, green rolling hills all around. There was a lot of mud on the road with many with many turns uphill and downhill; 4x4 was necessary. There was no cellphone signal up there, and only saw another driver pass by. Eventually, I ended at a crossroads in the middle of nowhere, with no visual landmarks or or cell signal to guide me, but the Gps on my phone saying I had arrived at my destination. I busted out my California Map book, never leave home without it, so I got my sense of direction back, and decided to follow Bartlett springs road all the way to the Indian Valley Reservoir Valley. Came back same way I went in, but you can follow Bartlett springs road all the way to Highway 20 North of Clearlake.

Basically, a well maintained fire road (some wash-board section). It traverses Walker Ridge and is a "loop" trail, not meeting up exactly at the start. There is a four-way "intersection" about a third of the way in (or 2/3 in depending on your point-of-entry). The direction-sign there is shot-out by over-zealous firearm enthusiasts. A nice, short spring trip. I'm sure it could get pretty hot during the peak of summer.
