TH is closed but hiked in from where the bridge spans the river, adding an extra mile or so. no shade, often very windy, and a few River crossings depending on snow melt (could be a good thing or not). beautiful landscape as you go through the watershed of the San gorgonios, with a ton of unique flowers. dog owners watch out: this water is notorious for containing giardia. caught scent of a bear that musked in 2 sep spots ~ 1 mi before red dome, probably lives within the canyons on the left. if you catch smell of an old, wet hound, that's a bear

We only went down to go tubing, and found the perfect spot with shade! Bring sunscreen and bathing suits!

The actual trailhead is closed due to COVID- HOWEVER, you can still hike the trail from the river. Directions are posted on a big o’ sign at the trailhead (and you’ll see a bunch of cars parked). Make sure you bring TONS of water for your dog (if you’re not hiking the river). There is absolutely no shade and it gets super hot. The water felt amazing and it was super fun!

I hiked this trail via Mission Creek. Once to the PCT intersection, I went north. As you follow the PCT, you will see a smaller trail to the left. Walk that to the end at a cliff. The view of San G is incredible! That viewpoint is 5.5 miles from the Mission Creek gate. If you start at Whitewater, hike past red dome and then to across the wash to the trail that takes you up to the ridge. You can go down the other side and the PCT.

8.8mi, 1752ft. I started on Canyon View Loop with the intention of making it to Rainbow Cayon and Red Dome in Whiteater Preserve. The visitor center and amenities in it are closed due the pandemic but the website said foot travel in was permissible via this trail and the PCT north. This doesn't seem to appear to be the case. At the junction signage suggests returning to your car or taking the PCT south, asking people only access the preserve in emergency conditions. It didn't seem like a legal notice not to enter but went sb anyway. Rolling, grassy hills with wildflowers and succulents in full bloom. Some switchbacking going up the steeper hills, but they tend to be on the shielded sides around here, helped on a windy day like today. Lots of small wildlife. Wear masks when passing, be safe!

Did this one in June 2019. Pretty warm this time of year so didn’t finish it. In the beginning it’s a nice walk. Then follow the river for a while and stay cool. Beyond the river it’s all sun so be prepared. I only did a few miles past the river and decided that was long enough for as hot as it was. If you want a short little hike and picnic this is a good one if you only go as far as the river. Pretty easy to here.

Nice wide Jeep trail with great views of the mountains. All uphill for 2 miles to the turn around. Good moderate hike with no technical stuff. Highly recommended to all walkers, runners, & hikers.

The trail was in great shape. Got a little windy up at the top of the trail. Great views along the trail

Gorgeous day hike! We even went a little further and it was amazing! Alot of people and dogs on trail, many of them were responsible pet owners but unfortunately we did come across and have to avoid the remnants of little dog poops up and down the trail. The only scat we should be seeing on trail is from coyotes and wildcats. Overall it was very lovely. We will be going back...with extra bags to help keep the trails poop free!

Outstanding hike. Would rate it moderate to hard. Some areas are very narrow. Really need proper foot gear. Gorgeous views. We hiked from the Rangers station to the point were you could see the turbines and then turned around. Almost 14kms done in 3 hours.

Well maintained trail. No shade on the top. If the parking lot is full it is not really a big deal to park by the bridge and start there if you are going to complete the full loop.
