Nice trail along the Sacramento River. It feels more like urban hiking hearing the traffic noise along I-5. Walking on asphalt is hot and thankful for the breezy day, Would be perfect for cyclist looking for a smooth ride.

Saw a rattlesnake and a turkey hen with her chicks. Warm day. Loved the parts nestled by the river. Busy with bikers and walkers alike.

If this area is meant to be hiker-friendly, it comes up a bit short. There really isn't much of a trail system. I fully understand conservationist sentiment but I wonder if there is excessive resistance to establishing better trails for the sake of preservation. Getting to spots that aren't just fields isn't straightforward. Lots of trees, streams, and ponds from a distance but you can't access most of these things unless you want to ignore Leave No Trace ethics.

There's plenty here, but until there are better trails it's not suitable for hikers. With the roads going through it, this is way more of a 'sight-seeing with binoculars' type of place, NOT hiking.

awesome trail..right beside the Sacramento river..has good shade area

It was ok. I liked it best during fall and spring, specially if it has rained recently. No dogs allowed, they also have an auto tour route, in case you don't feel like walking. map shows incorrect in the app, start for trail is much closer to freeway, actually next to it.

Trail did not go the way this app shows.

Go at Sunrise! Stunning. Easy walk. Take camera. Beautiful flowers, cat tails, birds. Waterfowl... Peaceful. Nice way to spend some quiet time in morning in nature

This trail follows the railroad tracks, Interstate, and river. Not much urban downtown to visit. Not worth the heat during the summer, might be better in the cooler seasons. Cyclists seem to like it.

Easy day hike. There were plenty of ducks and a few heron. The wild sunflowers were a treat.

Very beautiful hike. Lots of wildlife to be seen, specifically birds. Plenty of solitude to be had to make you feel as if you are getting away from it all, even with the Sacramento skyline still in view. Very flat, easy, trail.

This is my go-to six-mile hike that I go to several times weekly to bird watch. Where else can you go within five minutes of downtown Sacramento and see absolutely no one but a few rice farmers, some bird watchers, and a crop duster or two in the distance. And sometimes there is no one else in the entire 17,700 acres! Since this is a wildlife sanctuary, there are literally thousands of birds, and as the seasons change so too do the birds. So, if you want a peaceful, relaxing, beautiful place to walk, run, hike or jog, this is it! And it's five minutes from downtown Sacramento--amazing.

I have been here only several times... It's a very interesting spot to drive over on the freeway as well as to drive through. The wildlife area is right next to the freeway and you will find many birders. Overall very accessible, and there is a bird hunting area in the back (but you would never know it visiting for the first time).

Spent a few hours walking around the wildlife area to watch the birds and enjoy the scenery. Everything is flat and walks are easy.
