Hard if you are not in shape but the trail is in very good shape. Enjoyed the views!!

Perfect for an end of the day walk that’s not too difficult. Look out for rattlesnakes and pollen in April and May

First mile (and last mile) really muddy - but loved the hike - great workout for the first 2+ miles and amazing views. Needed to cross 3 very small streams so shoes got a little wet

Great hike, keep an eye on the map, because it's easy to switch on a another trail without noticing it! But really nice one, super green right now! Warm and sunny!

Southern and eastern aspects of loop are quite exposed. Late January and I found myself wishing for a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. That is, until coming down into the valley of the northern and western aspect of the loop (I journeyed counter clockwise) which is shady from the oaks, full of moths and birdsong, and has a few creeks running across. More muddy than I expected and finished within two hours at a strong pace.

Great hike! Great cardio! The first hour or so is just up up up. So if you’re not a regular hiker this will feel more like an extreme or strenuous hike instead of moderate. Great views! BBQ trail very nice and wooded. We have seen baby bob cats. Haven’t seen the mothers so be aware. Lots of mtn bikers. They go fast so just be looking ahead. Everyone is very respectful. Usually takes us 2:40 minutes to do.

Nice and close to town.

on Secret Valley Loop

Great hike!

The very last part of the Ridge Top Trail part of this loop was fenced off, so had to double back and take the bypass trail. Apart from that great hike and phenomenal 360 views from the ridge top.

Gorgeous views, plenty of variety, good mix of sun and shade. Kids loved finding the 'secret' valley. One edit - dogs are NOT allowed unfortunately. AllTrails marks it as pet friendly, but regrettably they have posted warning signs.

Beautiful trail, especially the "secret" part!

Good trail, strenuous at times. Excellent views to go with a nice workout.

Beautiful the entire way! Up and down, lots of hills, but gorgeous! Do it!

This was a phenomenal trail! Breathtaking (both from the steepness and view) when you step onto the top of the ridge and have 360 degree views. The only part I didn't like was the paved road that brings you off the ridge if taking the loop in a counter clockwise direction. I will definitely be taking this trail again.

Best for Trail Running! This trail is all dirt with minimal rocky patches. Rolling hills was able to sprint the downhills with no fear of rolling an ankle or hitting a hard rock. The ground felt cushioned beneath my feet. Scenery is rolling hills with chaparral oak trees scattered throughout. No shade so wear sunblock. Pretty fun trail. Came out to 4.97 miles on my Nike+ GPS tracker.

Nice hike, moderate, lots of wide fire trails or you can take off on a single-track. Lots of alternate routes you can take here.

The trail was closed at Borges Ranch and I had to turn back the way I came..

Also there isn't a lot of shade cover so I recommend sunscreen.

Lastly, There is an Elementary School at the trail head so traffic is crazy at 2:30 on a weekday. Plan accordingly.

Beautiful views and wildflowers. On the harder side of moderate; the climbs aren't too steep but they keep going for awhile. Wall Pt. side is exposed, secret valley and BBQ terrace portions are shady with small river crossings.

We saw some wild turkeys and a fat rattle snake at the end of the hike. He was handsome but he rattled at me and my baby.

Great hike! Can keep it easy and stay on the main trail or make it hard and climb up to the top of the ridge. Lots of different trails. Little muddy in the shaded spots.

Great rewards! I started this trail at a Howe Homestead park. Right from the start you have a nice up to get your heart racing. Once you get past the houses and to the top of the first ridge you can stay on top of the ridge to the left, or continue down The trail, which I did. Eventually, staying to the left I took the Shell Ridge Trail. The beautiful views all around me was well worth the non stop ups! I stopped and turned around after I got to the top of the third ridge. I was on a time limit that day and wasn't sure I had enough time to finish the loop. I will hike this trail again, maybe from a different starting point. I was told by a local that a few of the ladies in the Howe Park were responsible for the open space. Also, these connecting trails will take you from city land to county land to state land if you have the time to walk it! Enjoy!

I really enjoyed this hike. A good easy-moderate hike. A bit of a workout but not too hard. And you pass through Borgess Ranch where you can see and pet animals! Kind of muddy in places after all the rain but very green!

Beautiful views and first time around was easy to hike and to navigate and did I mention the views? The sky's are big and wide from the top of the hill. Can't wait to try this trail in the spring.

Avoid in rainy days.

Good trail. Decent hike. Scenic. Avoid if it rained recently or if you are going to do it anyway, make sure you wear good trekking shoes. It was muddy when we visited as it rained on three previous day.
