The Santa Clara River Trail is a nice bike path, but the Lost Canyon trailhead is not the best way to access it: limited parking, and for the first mile or so, no shade as it parallels the Antelope Valley Freeway.

Paved trail that follows the south fork of the Santa Clara River. Lots of easy access from the nearby neighborhoods, a great way to get in exercise.

Nice easy paved path that follows San Francisquito Creek and crosses a vintage 1898 railroad bridge. Lots of connections to other paved trails. Best for cycling or jogging.

Temporarily closed between Avenue Tibbits and Newhall Ranch Road.

Great of nature during my commute of group trip. Plenty of places to stop if need be!

So if you are looking to get outside and are really in a pinch, this will work for you. It is part of the Santa Clarita Paseo System. These are all paved paths along the Santa Clara River and it's tributaries. If you are riding your bike it is perfect and you really can go anywhere in the entire city. The down side is that if you are looking to get in a quick walk or hike, be ready for noise, bikes, dogs, trash, and everything else that comes with suburbia. The one saving grace is that the river is mostly undisturbed and filled with wildlife. There are small spots where you can take some single track use trails and poke around a bit. Sadly though when you do come across a group of curious rabbits like I did, there is some guy on a bike that comes flying by before you can get your camera out.
