Great trail but not for beginners. A lot of incline.

Was a good workout for both my dog and I. Watch out for cars and a few motorbikes that fly around the curves. Parking wasn’t super clear so I parked on a pull-off by some houses. Was very foggy and damp the day I went so didn’t see much, and came down pretty quickly after seeing some very fresh (what I though were) bear prints in mud...

Hiked at 11am on a Sunday morning. Lots of poop with forks in the trail. Map takes you directly to the driveway-like entrance. Go over the concrete path and you will find a small metal gate behind the shrubbery. That’s where the path begins. From there, Its obvious path but took trial and error to know which way was the “right” way. We also found some poison oak near the main trail about halfway through - the majority of the trail is overgrown, tick-nation, so be mindful. Very quiet, no people when we went. Views were very nice once you get to the outlook points, few shady portions along the way, however, there definitely are long stretches in the sun. Some parts were quite steep so be careful. Not my favorite trail for scenery or location, but it certainly is nice for when you need a quick getaway close to home.

I'm a beginner, just got done. Its nice hike, alot of incline for those who enjoy it. Great workout but not 5.5 miles. 7.85 for us.

It was a nice hike but it is definitely not 5.5 miles. My son and I walked to the first cell tower and it was 7.29 miles round trip.

Great hike! I parked immediately when turning off Pleasants Valley onto Gates Canyon which made the hike ~8 miles/2.5 hours total to the lookout & back but was well worth it! The trail is more of a road as you see private properties & cars go past but it is not that trafficked. It starts walking past orchards, a creek and pastures. As you steadily climb it gets more rigorous. 4ish miles in & you turn around on a steep hill to see the gorgeous Gates Canyon behind you but don’t stop — just 2 more bends & you come to a gorgeous flat lookout clearly marked with boulders. Definitely recommend this one!

High traffic trails, have to move out of the way constantly on narrow trails with steep falls. The scenery is ok but not much to see.

the map shows parking on the street outside the park but THERE ARE NO PARKING SIGNS EVERYWHERE. Don't risk getting towed.

This was a fun trail didn’t finish since I was with my young niece . It’s just a bit confusing because the trail is just a one way road ..?? You’ll see many houses and private property on the way there so just be careful not to end up on someone’s lawn . Perhaps it changes to more of a trail the farther you go . Also you have to park on the side of the road .

I would suggest parking at the intersection of Gates Canyon and Pleasant Valley Road. It does add about a mile each way but it’s a pretty area and the grade is mild. The posted route ends at an overlook but not at the top of the canyon.

This trail isn’t my scene. Cows are grazed in this park so it smells like cows, has poop everywhere and the habitat is damaged from so many cows. Farm animals do not equal nature to me. There are also tons of people on the trail. Also not my scene. While the hills beyond the park are beautiful, I’d prefer to hike somewhere actually in nature.

I would say it’s a moderate trail, the first part is up hill and then it levels out up top. Go in the morning before 11am or else it’s too hot! Took both dogs and the boyfriend and they did great!

For COVID-19 outings: NOT a great trail for social distancing! My husband and I came here for a change of scenery and hoping to get some miles in during quarantine. We wore our masks and are very careful to social distance. We were highly disappointed with the trail etiquette of others around us. To properly social distance, we had to walk in the brush on the shoulder of the trail for people who would not move to the side at all. Two other people were racing and started running straight for us and got very close. We ended up leaving early because so many times other walkers were rude or getting too close for comfort. The trail is very close to the freeway and a ton of dog poop (again from the bad trail etiquette!). I left this place super disappointed and probably won’t come back!

Trail is mostly on a road some paved, some gravel. The view from the top is very nice!
