Truckee, California Map

We are new to hiking and in our 50’s-60, so this is for newbies like us. Loved the views and weather was perfect in October. We actually walked the path counter-clockwise, not knowing how this app really works, and just realized, late, that the path direction is on the app. Heading down the peek of Mt. Judah Trail back to Pacific Crest was slippery and steep, the trail was hard to recognize. Now that I see we should have ascended that way, it makes some sense. We’re learning and love adventure.

Awesome place to mountain bike! My 11yr old loves it. Start at Hoelter hall trail head to add some exciting downhill thru the trees, then one you cross the gate the trail seems like equal parts up and down thru out. Excellent beginner trail for sure with beautiful views at the end. On way back you can get on dirt road to skip going uphill thru the trees if you want.

Easy walk. I won't rate this as moderate. Feels a lot shorter than 4 miles. Clearly marked trails, fun but you can hear/see the traffic on 267, thought it was a little more nature, but still good.

The first 2 miles could be challenging for people who have knees problems because the trail was steep and could be slippery. We hike relatively slow with our dogs and it took us about 3.5 hours round trip.

Super easy, flat trail. Brought my dog as there is lots of water for her to play.

Great hike!

Liked this hike, good distance, lots to see. Didn’t enjoy the part of the walk that was on pavement.

Very crowded and when I hike I like to get away from people. I’ve lived in Truckee since ‘91 and have never done this trail as I had heard it was too busy. Rocky parts and uphill but not a difficult hike. Beautiful views! 2 hours and 12 minutes to do entire loop.

A nice easy walk, gives a different perspective than in winter. Fun.

*There are some lengthy steep and rocky parts of the trail
*Great workout
*No water sources so bring plenty of water for dogs
*A lot of exposed/unshaded areas of the trail
*Took about 3.5 hours to complete the entire loop with several breaks
*Well signed trail; hard to get lost
*Nice views (lake, summit, trees, etc.)

Easy to find. Trails were nice -- amazing view and I nice place to take a walk to.

Looking for an easy river walk? This is a pleasant one. Walking with dogs, look for your first opportunity to get off the blacktop and follow the path close to the river which starts about ~100 yards east of the foot bridge.

This trail was perfect for my wife's first time on a mountain bike, easy ride with only 1 spot that was challenging for her.... A great trail to walk or run.

6/22/18 Bumpy backcountry roads, forest trails, mountain views, and clear alpine pools to dip in. nothing better (except less people but what can you do). Friendly skinny dippers at least

Great! Especially hitting it just right for wildflowers! Views are magnificent. Good workout.

Nice and easy.

Great trail for dogs - some uphill elevation climbs but mostly flat. Beautiful alpine forest and meadows. Freeway noise drops off after the first mile when the trail changes direction.

Beautiful! Amazing views. Great hike with older kids.

A beautiful October hike, with saturated colors, cool temperatures, and no other hikers. Although a relatively short hike, the climb provides good exercise if done at a brisk pace.

I just did it in the rain! It was great not to have the dust.

Beautiful! Good workout. Fall colors beginning and great views.

So beautiful, it was too windy to have a fire this past weekend. I believe the Rangers put no fire flags in most campsites, nonetheless still a great trip.

great easy hike. went end of September. beautiful views. you walk past where the Donner party wintered. Makes you think

Trail was in great condition. Weather was perfect. Got a little chilly in the evening. Great spot to spend a relaxing lake side weekend.

beautiful views and amazing trail.

The directions take you down a dirt road that is relatively rocky so make sure you have a car with decent clearance. We also never found the actual trail head but it was fun to explore and walk along the train tracks!

three of us plus one dog and had a lovely time. nice Meadow and then you got some shade and Creek. good day

Pleasant beautiful loop, definitely go out to Donner point.
