Great trail with great views of Lower and Upper Echo Lake. Just wish there wasn’t so many cabins along the shoreline.

Beautiful hike. Our family did it on July 10, 2018 and the kids (11yrs and 6yrs) loved it. We got there by 9:00am so the trail wasn’t too crowded. We hiked around to the right side of the lake and it was so quite and peaceful. The water was clear and cold. I definitely recommend this hike.

I did this hike last summer it had a nice view when you get the the top but it was right next to houses and cabins and lots of people. Took away from why I hike. Beautiful yes and fun to swim because you need too considering this is VERY exposed. No shade. It was okay but I wouldn’t do it again . The boat taxi back though was fun. So that’s also an option if you don’t want to hike all the way back

Very nice. Little trails all over. You could get lost. We went out and around to the river. Found great little spot to put our feet in.

This was an absolute blast. Short easy hike for the little kids and enjoyable water. My 5 year old cousin had absolutely no problem with this trail and it was a great little trip for the family from out of town. Added bonus, on the other side of the lake there was some cliff jumps for the older kids and adults. Extremely fun day out for the family.

This is a short and sweet trail with great view and a nice little lake (Eagle Lake) that you can dip in. There are also waterfalls right by the lake that you can reach. This hike is great for families and doggies :). We spent some time at the lake and enjoyed it a lot. Parking (alone the road) is limited but not too bad.

If you’re looking to discover new lakes, these are underwhelming. Cathedral is a snowmelt pond with no in or outflowing streams. Dead water. But the trail itself is fine, with nice views of Fallen Leaf along a ridge for about a half mile. If you have dogs this is a great trail - we saw many, including several off leash ... pretty clear that rule isnt enforced. We passed a poor woman lost two small dogs that bolted.

Beautiful Hike. My 10year old daughter Ella loved it. She walked around in the lake.

Worth the 3+ mile drive to the parking area where there is lots of parking. Hiked with our dogs and passed few hikers on our way out, a few more on our way back, but no other dogs. We hiked out to grass lake. Only part of the trail that was a little tricky was the creek crossing where it wasn’t obvious. But if you look to the left you see the logs across the creek and it picks up the trail there. Amazing views.

Great moderate hike with awesome views. Go early to avoid most of the other hikers. We went mid July and there were plenty of wild flowers to add to the many photo ops. This trail has a lot of loose and uneven rocks so wear shoes with good solid soles and our hiking poles came in handy. There is a little store at the trail head were you can get lunch or a treat after the hike.

Awesome views! Worth the drive.

I took my family to spend the day at the lake. My 3 and 5 year olds hiked in on their own. It's a little strenuous on the way in, but I saw folks of all shapes and sizes making the trek. The short hike is well worth it when you get to the end... and remember, it's downhill on the way back!

Like another poster suggested, you should make a day out of this. Bring a lunch. Wear your swimsuit. Bring a few bucks, in case you want to rent a kayak, row boat, or SUP ($22/hr).

Bring exact change for parking (now, $8). Getting a parking permit is self-service. The El Dorado County Sheriff was in the lot when we came back to our car, so they do check. On the upside, you know your car is secure.

Read what other posters have written on here and Yelp. They are pretty accurate in their assessments.

Note: It says in the above description that you can drive to the lake. This is not correct. They have reserved parking spots in the same parking lot you park in for people staying at the small resort. The resort will truck in the luggage...not you.

Eagle lake at the top is worth the hike. Water is crystal clear. You can swim in the lake.

Easy uphill walk in. Takes about 30 min with a little kid. We packed in our paddle boards and got to the upper lake and it was awesome. Make a day out of it not just a hike in.

Very easy but great and informative hike. Excellent for younger kids but all ages will enjoy.

Relatively easy scenic hike to an OK lake. The journey was much more enjoyable than the destination so we didn’t spend much time there.

A very pretty walk through the edge of the forest along the lake, and through the once-Summer-estate now museum. An added bonus is the giant Sequoia trees in the arboretum around the historic sites!

moderate trail I love the waterfalls

This is a uphill climb to start. Its very short as the distance suggest. The scenery is outstanding. The drive here is also beautiful. We did this in the evening and saw lots of people walking back with towels.

Beautiful scenery especially the open meadow surrounded my rocky peaks. Wear good sole shoes, trail is rocky but manageable.

Beautiful, easy hike! My 5 and 8 year old girls LOVED jumping into the lake and my 13 year old son and his friends did a lot of cliff jumping despite the warnings of injury! They started on the tallest cliff, which is about 60-70 ft and worked their way to the more popular smaller cliffs! It can be very dangerous, so be careful, research the areas, ask around for advice and NEVER dive!

The Lemonade is a fantastic treat

Loved the hike! My 4 year old and 8 year old girls geeked the entire path without a complaint and LOVED getting in the Lake when we got there!

This trail was pretty that took us to old out buildings & a gorgeous waterfall. It’s a pretty rocky trail with lots of bugs, but the beauty is worth it

An easy beautiful hike with a wonderful lake swim and don't forget to try their awesome homemade lemonade!

Nice scenic trail for an early morning but too crowded thereafter. A good cut-in to the wilderness/PCT/Aloha.

Go as far as you need and then turn around. Fantastic views!

Hiked in mid-June. Cute lakes and cabins and pretty easy walking though rocky in places. Good for kids. Would go again.

This was a great hike. The spectacular lake view at the end is worth every step. The hike had views around every corner and after the falls the number of people dropped off dramatically. The large trees along the path keeps you in shade for most of the trip.

Nice easy section of PCT but area is very populated and overbuilt. Much nicer once you pass the Desolation Wilderness sign.
