We went while there was still snow in May. This was a beautiful hike even though I didn’t see any wildflowers. There was a huge river running down blocking the other side of the trail about 2 miles in. Fantastic hike!!!!

Sadly completely covered in snow. Looks like a great trail... will check back in a month or so.

App keeps closing on me, the activity is snowshoeing, I went in shoes that vented and my socks were wet. There is still a lot of snow up there. There are trails on the snow made by snow motor vehicle that you can't really miss. It's really peaceful and beautiful up on the peak where you can see mountain ranges in 360°. It was cloudy so it for chilly for me. Would definitely go again when the snow melts!

Hiked up the peak yesterday. The snow was well packed, needed snowshoes only on our way back. Great hike and wonderful views!

Had a great sunny day today. Snowshoes the entire trip. I will be doing this again.

Super fun in snow! Went snow shoeing with my best friend today, and it was a beautiful view up at the top! Not too difficult, the steepness is pretty gradual until the end. Would love to see it in the springtime.

Amazing hike. Pack warm, waterproof hiking shoes and trekking poles

Do this hike in the summer then come back and do it in the winter, it’s so amazing to see the change in the terrain. Such an amazing hike I recommend it to everyone

Convienient and amazing!!

Castle peak cut short to one of the false summits. 1-2ft snow up past the pass. Skis/snowshoes needed after about 1.5 miles in.

Enjoyable walk through a variety of habitats. October is a great time of the year to hike this trail ... looking forward to hiking the trail during the spring.

Lots or snow and pretty tough incline to the summit. But great views!

Breathtaking in both senses. Very well worth the time and energy. I may have taken a hundred photos along this trail. Although I approached Castle Pass from the rest area.

Pretty fall color!

Nice educational signs at the start that highlight things you see throughout the hike. It actually goes under Hwy 80 which is intriguing. Nice, easy, wooded, crosses a stream several times. Will do again!

Great for a quick get away, saw a few mountain bikers and only 1 other couple hiking. Beautiful views at the lake!

Wonderful hike with views 360 degrees
Terrain was rocky and scree in places was slippery but worth the effort

One of my favorite trails❣️

Wonderful trail, please stay on he trail. Be sure to make for an earily accent to avoid possible afternoon weather, able to get to summit, it is the last turret!

Another fantastic hike. Dogs off leash ok. Probably should bring a little water for the pups. Not too far of a hike but still the beauty is amazing.

Lovely hike that is perfect for someone who wants a little exercise, some challenge, great views, and doesn't have all day. It's easy to accidentally divert from the trail, and the trail around the lake is not very clear (you may have to make your own way). The lake is very swimming friendly. Wildflowers still visible, and lots of dogs.

Great hike, beautiful scenery. A lot of the hike is on gravel fire roads. Not as pretty as the single track, but still forested and scenic.

The lake makes it worth it. Walked around lower lake, tried to find the trail to upper lake by following cairns up the granite on the far side, but trail sort of disappeared, so we gave up and just enjoyed lower lake.

Lots of great places to camp around the lake and surrounding granite. Very picturesque. Will definitely come back for an overnight trip.

Beautiful hike!! The hike to the lower lake was easy to moderate. If you go the upper lake, there is a bit of rock scrambling and bouldering involved. You'll see stacks of rocks as trail markers along the way to the upper lake. There is a big rock in the middle of the upper lake that is great to swim too. Bring plenty of water if you go in hotter weather, there are parts that are exposed to the sun and you'll want to stay hydrated.

It was 110+ degrees in Roseville today, so we woke up early and headed up the hill. And it was a ton of fun. The destination lake was beautiful and fun to swim in, but we only saw very small fish (hooked into one using a fly rod). We also hiked to the rock peak to the left of the lake and enjoyed great views. There were a lot of mountain bikers in the area (Saturday so not a surprise). Great trail and swim for dogs, too.

Incredible panoramic view from the summit. Well worth the journey which is almost entirely uphill. The trail is clearly visible and easy to navigate. Scaling the outcroppings at the summit should be done only with great caution and experience.

beautiful lake and easy laidback hike.
