Lots of cairns and some flagging to follow at the start of the trail. And then Jeep trail to the top

Challenging trail for my 9 year old daughter. Download the route, you can easily get off trail. It was Memorial Day weekend, fun to see all the JEEPs! There were only 2 other hikers on the trail. We found/ made a trail near a stream to avoid the OHV trail. Do yourself a favor, bring hiking poles.

Great views! Very steep & tough at the beginning/end though, so beware! Recommend downloading the map, it’s so easy to get off track.

Fun trail! There were a couple of areas that had ledges where i needed a spotter. As long as you’re patient with crawling especially once you get to the hard rocky areas, it’s worth the drive.

Amazing trail and worth the trip to the lookout. Fun to see the off road vehicles. The trail is very confusing, look for the rock formations and ribbons in the tree. We made it there but got so lost coming back trying to find the trail from the 4x4 road. Please download the AllTrails maps before you leave so can follow offline. I’m thankful had a whistle too because we truly were lost. It was worth it!

My wife and I went on Mother’s Day and it was great. The entrance was closed so you have to park outside the campground. (Adds distance to the hike) Not too many people, dogs should fine. We took a detour to nearby small waterfall and that was the highlight of the hike . I would say this closer to moderate but, I think it was because of the detour we took. Scenery was very great (although the first bit had burnt logs scattered throughout). I would do this again.

This trail was incredibly hard in the beginning. A few switch backs in the beginning, take a fully charged phone and a pocket charger. Once at the top, there’s a place beside a big rock that blocks the wind for cooking on a small burner. A lot of gravel, be careful, especially going back down. View is so totally worth it.

Just finished this trail up with my 15 yr old and 12 yr old... the first mile is pretty tough going up and even more so coming down, it is pretty much loose gravel and had a couple of slips, coming down you have to be very careful. We used our bums to slide down at a few spots. The trail is pretty well defined for the most part but there are a few areas that you have to stop and search for the trail marks. There are also rock formations that people have set up to help.

A pretty decent day-hike. I would recommend to start around sunrise if you want most of the trail to yourself. There were a few Dirt Bikes and ATVs on my way back down mid-morning. It’s a bit of a scramble coming back down due to the loose gravel but...nothing too terrible. There is still snow in the shaded valley but I will expect it to be gone within the next 30 days.

5/10/20. Solid day hike that takes you through gravel, forestry, stone, and a bit of snow to a summit that houses a fire lookout tower overlooking Shaver Lake and provides a view of the snow-capped Sierras. You'll feel most of the elevation gain right in the beginning of the hike and just before the summit. Trail can be difficult to find at many parts, so keep a watch-out for stacked rocks and ribbon ties to stay on the trail. Also beware of loose gravel where you can lose your footing. Overall, a hike I'd recommend.

This hike was fun, you run into loose gravel, snow, rocks. It was uphill most of the way to the tower, then down hill back. Coming back was adventurous, went the wrong way a couple times. Thank goodness for the flag marking and stacked up rocks to help us find our way back.

I would not do this in the middle of summer unless at the crack of dawn. That being said the trail is steep the first third and then easy incline uphill. The top third is all granite and you can easily bushwhack (rockwhack) the whole thing if you have a map/compass. Their is a defined trail at the beginning so stay on it and follow it till you get to the OHV route.

Awesomely beautiful hike. Great for dogs but beware the hiking trail meets up with the OHV trail. It was fine on the way up only saw one vehicle but as you see from the gps tracks we got a bit of course on the way down. Everything looks very similar on top! We saw a bunch of cairns in multiple directions on the way up. Next time I’ll rely on this app and not the ohv trail haha

anyone know if this is open currently?

Snowshoed to the lake....awesome !!

Is very good my 1st on 2nd week of February Saturday and was wonderful I waent weth friends about 4 friends with me Jeep in a Chevy truck we have so much fun

I was unable to find parking to hike this trail. If anyone has any suggestions on parking, I would appreciate it. The direction to the beginning of the trail was somebody's home.

We made a family trip out there with for my little niece first time hiking. Unfortunately, THIS TRAIL and snow Park IS NOW CLOSED to the Public. I don't know how long or if it will open again. Up the road a couple of miles are 2 more snow parks so we still had tons of fun.

It was a nice stroll in shaver. It wasn’t bad at all
