5 stars for the birds, so many kinds!
And 4 stars for part of the trail so close with drive way, I don’t like to breathe cars;)

Long hike that goes along the coast. Gets crowded by noon. Was foggy the entire time I hiked, so no views, but I could see how it would be gorgeous on a clear day.

This was a quick down and back hike .8 miles each way. My dad and I took a long lunch break on a Friday for this route. going in the middle of the day made for easier parking and it wound up a perfect break from the work day!

Free and plentiful parking. Trail starts at a beach where you can enjoy watching surfers. Heads steadily up and actually away from the coast - follow signs for trail, or if you choose get sidetracked on the smaller trails that run closer to the coast- just know they don’t necessarily connect back to this trail. On clear days you’re rewarded with views and on foggy days with ethereal beauty - can’t go wrong.

Not too crowded for mid-day Sunday. Great hike if you want something quick with great views and a good mix of up hill/down hill. Seems like it’d be great for trail running too.

Beautiful 2hr loop.

Golden gate national recreational park is beautiful. If you’re looking to enjoy the nature though, don’t do this hike. You’re walking along the road almost the entire time if you follow this “trail”. Also, the lighthouse doesn’t even open until 1230, so if you’re looking to make this a part of your hike, you’ll have to go in the afternoon.

At first you go uphill for about 1/2 a mile and then you start heading downhill. You end up at a beach which is BEAUTIFUL! Coming back the road is steep, but not difficult.

Love this hike, and I’m biased because it’s where my husband proposed. ❤️

Very short hike which yields a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito, Angel Island, Alcatraz, and San Francisco. It was a bit foggy when we ascended. It’s also very windy at the top. It took us all of 15 minutes of slow walking up a steep incline for this picturesque view

Nice variety, lots of scenic vistas. There are lots of parking lots along the trail, so there are constantly a lot of people doing shorter hikes and carrying things to the beach. At times it was one step away from waiting in line to pass the steep parts. A lot of the hikers were unprepared for steep sandy slopes so dealing with people half-falling down the downhills was also a negative for me.

Beautiful

Great hike, not too many views since the fog was covering the majority of the trail. Make sure to go on a clear day.

I love this easy hike ! The birding is really good I saw a blue heron here last week.
You can access several trailheads from here as well.

Very steep entrance with lots of stairs but then great cursing just off the western edge of the ridge and spectacular views from Slacker Hill.

Great views, flowers, and wildlife. Sometimes very foggy but still a really good walk. Amazingly deserted for the proximity to big urban center.

Gorgeous views....steep but short and well worth the climb!

I feel like this trail was pretty moderate. If you aren’t use to hiking up pretty steep inclines, this hike may not be for you. Make sure you don’t miss the Wolf Ridge trail head. Heading up near Hill 88 had me distracted and I never saw it. If you hit the graffiti then head back down the hill and look to your right for the trail head.

Dear older children who are being dragged here, it's all up hill (very pretty) but wear your Nikes and your work out clothes and a hat (for the wind, very windy, very). Feels much longer than a mile, you'll have a story for sure!!! Take your pictures before the hike, trust me.

Easy trail, lots of parking right near the beach.

The trail is mostly fire roads with a short section on stairs. There are several areas that have been rerouted because of closures.

The eastern half coming down from Hill 88 is slightly boring as there aren’t many views and you can’t see the beach. There were several Batteries and other historic things to see along the way.

Amazing views! One of the top views in the entire bay area in my opinion. The hike is steep the entire way but totally doable. I took my 2 year old and had to carry most of the way. Definitely take pics when you get to the top you will be looking down on the Golden Gate, SF and Angel Island

Nice and easy hike, beautiful views.

Great hike done a long time ago. It was done in the spring and was very cool and windy. Awesome...

Strenuous but so incredibly satisfying. There are some whale bones at Tennessee Beach. Pretty cool!

This is a very well maintained trail that has amazing views of the ocean. Take the Pirates Cove Trail if you like seeing the ocean.

Windy, so bring a windbreaker.

Easy walk down to the beach. You can book to camp there too. Finding parking on top was a pain since there’s very limited space. There was no swing when I went.

Overall, the hike is beautiful that has a short climb in the beginning whether you stray as I did by hiking alongside Conzelman Road - or you stay with the trail by crossing Conzelman and pick up the trail across the street. Either way gets you to the same next stage of the hike.

When you get past the circle in the road, you’ll pass on the restrooms and hike for about a mile+ with an easy decline. Ultimately this will take you down to a road where you’ll turn left, cross the street and turn in opposite the horse stables. In about quarter mile, you reach a T where you’ll turn left. Shortly after that you’ll hike for about 2+ miles over a steady incline until you get to the last third of the hike and follow the ridge overlooking Sausalito. I hiked a bit further and had lunch sitting on the only bench on the trail overlooking both Sausalito and Angel Island.

I hiked in mid-July which is considered summer everywhere else but San Francisco and the Marin Headlands. Throughout my hike, the temp was 50-55ish with lots of fog and wind. Nothwithstanding, I recommend the hike and neighboring trails for the classic Marin Headlands experience. The views are breathtaking to locals and visitors alike!

Great hike!! I’ve done it twice now and love it for a solid work out. Be aware that it’s actually 6.6 miles roundtrip, not 5.3. Also, the first 2-3 miles on the way back from Muir beach is almost entirely up hill... something to keep in mind. Highly recommend if you want a good work out.

We are tied to hikes that allow dogs. We are running out of places but happy to find this trail. Coming from the East Bay in Walnut Creek it was very pleasant to have a sea breeze and a touch of fog. Not the typical trail found in the east bay. We loved it. Only managed 3 miles but a nice get away from home.
Lots of birds, brown pelicans are abundant here.

Great loop with a nice stopover on hill 88. Takes 2-3 hours with leisurely pace.
