Fun hike on mostly paved road. Water was nice to swim in at the cove. Great scenery and solitude.

Visited in the spring, the wildflowers were really beautiful. Easy terrain, but beware of snakes! It was early in the morning and I hadn’t drank coffee that morning and nearly stepped on a 6 foot long unidentifiable snake laying across the trail. Nothing too out of the ordinary, it was actually pretty cool to see some wildlife. Would definitely go back.

Great trail and views. FYI - If you go to More Mesa Beach the local rule is nude beach to right and clothes to the left.

HOT! Nice little hike but next time will definitely do it earlier in the day, towards the end both my friend and myself as well as my dog were running to get to the next little patch of shade. Make sure you also look at the map and remember where you parked because there are quite a few little trails in the park

Without markers this hike was difficult to navigate and stay on target.

I hiked the shortcut up and it is hard and steep
Got off the trail twice
Fortunately All Trail got me back on course
1.5 miles up about an hour non stop

Down was very moderate to easy
4 miles an I mostly did a trail run down
About an hour fifteen down

No snakes
Very buggy on the way up

I really enjoyed this trail. Awesome, commanding ocean views for the majority of the trail. I could see other islands in the distance and the mountain peaks of the island I was on. The cove was cool, too; I went at low tide and was able to do a little tide pooling. I saw jellies, snails, hermit crabs, anemones, fiddler crabs in the water and tons of lizards and grey foxes on land. Steep hike (definitely got a good glute workout and my knees didn't like me at the end) but a very enjoyable, scenic hike...would do again if I had the opportunity.

Easy and interesting. Drove along Camino Cielo afterwards. Perfect for an after work outing

This was my second time hiking this trail. From the road and going in the main entrance you can take a left and take the short route following the creek or you can go right to do the Oceanview, I took this route. About 4 1/2 miles in I missed the shortcut route coming down and ended up doing 6 miles almost to the top. Thank goodness I ran into other hikers thar shared I had passed the shortcut path but followed them down. Steep and a bit challenging since the mudslides and gets a little confusing with the new markers. Did 7 miles in 2:45hr. Great hike highly recommend it! Just be sure to pay attention to the shortcut if you’re looking for it!

Great trail.Amazing view.

Both trails that run along the north and south side of the creek are CLOSED. Nothing indicated when they would reopen.

Details: There are actually two different starting points for this trail. The one mentioned here is off Spyglass road (3 miles RT), but the other one is off Foothill Road (about 7 miles RT). This review is based off the shorter version from Spyglass Road.

Pros:
- Great views
- The first half is mostly flat
- Dogs allowed

Cons
- My biggest complaint, regardless of where you start, is that there is no sign or indication to let you know you've reached the finish line. You just have to assume because of the view and the path everyone else is taking.
- At least half of the trail doesn't have shade
- It is very crowded, but the longer version is less crowded. Even when I left today around 8pm, all the parking spots were still full.
- Not enough parking.
- Not well marked. I got turned around more than once because there were a couple forks with no clear indication of which way to go.

I’m a beginner hiker and this trail was perfect for a first hike!

Had the cove to myself. Did some off-trail hiking near the cove, a dry riverbed. Great solitude, sweeping vistas. Fox followed me much of the way back.

Awesome, easy, beautiful trail!

Beautiful views, nice easy afternoon hike.

Trail has been devastated by fires and floods. Slowly growing back. We had to take a different track because of washouts. Ended up just hiking up to the hot springs water was flowing into a small pool. More warm than hot. Actually Interesting to see the power of Mother Nature to destroy and rejuvenate.

Was looking for a 3 or 4 hr hike and a good workout. Was on the trail for 3.5 hrs. Really nice hike. Could hear water trickling through canyon for about 20% of the trail. A few really cool little waterfalls. Several forks on trail left me wondering if I went the right way. Took a wrong turn once and had to backtrack. Suggest GPS to keep you on the trail if you’re not familiar with the area. Some great views of SB and the Channel Islands. Got to the end of the official Rattlesnake Canyon trail but decided to keep going on another trail (Tunnel Trail maybe). After about 10 minutes on this trail, I was treated to an amazing view of SB. Definitely worth the extra time on the trail. Went on a Thursday. Parking was no problem and the trail wasn’t too crowded. Got just what I wanted - a cool hike and a great workout!

Overview: I hiked this 2 days ago, and was very glad for all the shade since it was pretty hot. This is an out and back trail. You can start at either end, at Tuckers Grove or along the 154. I personally like starting at the 154, so that when you reach the end you can relax at the park if you want before heading back. It took me about 1.5 hours for around 4 miles.

Pros:
- Plenty of parking at both entrances
- Lots of shade
- Dogs are allowed on a leash
- Mostly flat

Cons
- Can get pretty crowded
- Watch for poison oak

Fun walk for kids

This was a great starter for small children. The ruins make it feel like an adventure and the views are fantastic.

Great quick hike with a bit of elevation

Not much of a hike but a very cool view.

It’s hard . Take a lot of water , good shoes and protect your hands. The map little confuse but you will figure out . I would like to hike there again! It worst it .

Not really a hike but great views.

Fun, easy, well marked, good shade

Did this one starting from the Romero Canyon trailhead a few days ago since I couldn’t find the specific Buena vista trailhead and worked backwards. It was quite the workout! It was beautiful and serene, only saw one person the entire time. Unfortunately, the area where the catway trail meets the buena vista trail is absolutely covered in poison oak and I am pretty susceptible so I just turned around. Luckily I still got to do the majority of it though! Would try again maybe in another season.

Moderately strenuous trail through the canyon. Trail markers not always clear but easy enough to find your way back.

Fun hike
