An awesome trail with lots of shade, but the map is confusing sometimes

Exactly what we were looking for- moderate intensity, easy parking, easy to navigate, beautiful greenery (thanks to the seasons rains) and returned back to the car in two hours. Alltrails led us right to the trailhead where parking in the neighborhood community is easy. Moderate hilly. Packed a lunch but didn’t need it. Would definitely recommend given the convenience and relatability. Also we went between 12:20-2:20 and there was ample shade. At least 40%

Great hike! Challenging in some parts but beautiful scenic views at beginning and middle points. Super green and foggy when we went up. Finished in under 2 hrs.

Great trail!

Great trail for a sunset hike. I would recommend completing this loop in a counter-clockwise direction to avoid a pretty steep climb out.

Started off from Eagle Rock parking to join the Penitencia but got lured by the steep climb towards south rim. Good workout and great conversation with J & M ( fellow hikers). Can’t wait to do another one on Thursday. About the trail- Perfect for a hot summer day as all shaded with great vistas from the top about 300 ft elevation.

Great trail. It is all paved with divided lines in the middle. There are lots trees and a lot of shade. I started from Hellyer Park and walked south. I enjoyed the view of the hills, the creek with a small water fall, and a couple of bridges. There is a moderate amount of traffic. Watch out for bicyclists and skate boarders so stay in the right side. I didn’t see any wild boars or tents. The best part are the restrooms on both ends of the trail. It took me an hour to walk from one end to another. Give yourself two hours to complete.

I gave this trail one star for one reason. It would be ideal for a road bike ride (which I have done) but is not a good hiking route. Pluses: The views from the top of Hellyer Avenue were great. The walk near the lake was pleasant, with lots of wildlife around, including a great blue heron strolling on the grass. Minuses: It's all pavement and sidewalks. Hellyer is a fairly busy street with drivers rushing to and from the freeway. I had to take a pedestrian unfriendly overpass to return to the park. if I hike this again, I'll do an out-and-back on the bike trail.

It has some shades. Nice hikes

Me and my 2 years old son love this trails. We’ll be back.

I consider this an easy trails but for my 2 years old is moderate however we went super slow and it was a fun hike. We got there very early in the morning. The hikers and dogs are nice. Minus one star for the dogs poop on the path ways and some people left the poop in a bag along the side ways. Unacceptable! There is no poop fairy!

This trail is so beautiful with green grass from January to March. The view of nearby rolling hills is so pleasant when they’re green. it makes it hard to believe you’re in the heart of Silicon Valley with all the greenery around during the winter months. Probably not as beautiful after the grass dies up and changes color.

nice clean easy trail

Very beautiful trail but you often have to look at your map because the trail is not well indicated. Twice I had to turn back because I was on the wrong trail.

Fairly easy intensity, not clearly marked in some areas, pretty views on the hill, nice mix of shade and sun

First time went here, it was extremely windy so couldn’t finish the loop. Second time it got warmer but was pleasant enough to hike. Got to see lot of wild birds and two deers who were smart enough to sneak under barb wires to go across the hill. It starts with steep downhill so can impact your knees so I guess I would start this from Alum rock Park next time. No toilets if you start from the Sierra road parking lot.

most of the trail is too narrow. my dog picked up at least 10 ticks in 3 hours there. other than that a good workout. not crowded and friendly people.

Nice hike with no wind and sunny sky’s yesterday. Great views of South Bay and hills layered in clouds. Not crowded. Need to share with mountain bikers. Some occasional picnic tables. No mud. No water

Super windy today, but better in the trees. Saw lots of deer and birds, almost nobody else out except a few other mountain bikers. Along the lake is a fun ride, not too much extreme elevation

The trail was awesome to explore. Part of the trail was closed due to “unstable hillside”. I ended up detouring and still ended up where I started... I’m disappointed I didn’t make it to the top, but I will return
