An awesome trail with lots of shade, but the map is confusing sometimes

Great hike! Challenging in some parts but beautiful scenic views at beginning and middle points. Super green and foggy when we went up. Finished in under 2 hrs.

Great trail for a sunset hike. I would recommend completing this loop in a counter-clockwise direction to avoid a pretty steep climb out.

Started off from Eagle Rock parking to join the Penitencia but got lured by the steep climb towards south rim. Good workout and great conversation with J & M ( fellow hikers). Can’t wait to do another one on Thursday. About the trail- Perfect for a hot summer day as all shaded with great vistas from the top about 300 ft elevation.

Nice hike with no wind and sunny sky’s yesterday. Great views of South Bay and hills layered in clouds. Not crowded. Need to share with mountain bikers. Some occasional picnic tables. No mud. No water

The trail was awesome to explore. Part of the trail was closed due to “unstable hillside”. I ended up detouring and still ended up where I started... I’m disappointed I didn’t make it to the top, but I will return

Great trail to ride. Planning ahead! Extremely limited parking with enforcement!! Weekends when the weather is nice I probably would not bother because of the parking. If you’re riding make sure to go to the left at the fork after the bridge.

Moderate shade. The ascent can be tiresome when it is a little muddy. This trail will get the heart pumping a bit faster.

Perfect time to go is Jan, Feb. The trails were so conditioned.

This is a great trail to do in the mornings or on a really cool day. It’s definitely not an easy hike. It’s first half is downhill and the uphill the second half. Great workout with beautiful views!! Highly recommend.

Great views of the South Bay.

Great hike to get away for the day. Easy parking. A few ascents that might leave you huffing and puffing a bit but worth it. The views looking north towards San Jose are excellent from the top of Baldy Peak. It’s a short hike up from the main trail. Don’t miss it! Varied terrain and flora. Highly recommended for those graduating from easy to moderate hikes.

** CAREFUL ** - North part is closed due to cliffside instability Use switchbacks on your right (in map - the ones in black connecting the red North-South portions (approximately) of the trail to connect the two parts. Otherwise, you cross a bridge and cannot continue. The switchbacks are moderately challenging but short. Very nice views otherwise

Great training hike as well as scenic! I’m not great with elevation gain and this had its steep sections but they were brief. Glad to have this beautiful hike on my radar.

was closed on Dec 4th.

Beautiful views on the way up. Be prepared for a steep and quick decline on the way back.

Began in lot and walked to South Rim. Ould not complete due to switchbacks at the top being shut to unstable hillside. Beautiful and rainy!
