Beautiful park, but obviously very busy when the weather's nice.

World-class urban park. JFK a bit more scenic than MLK, but both provide reduced-traffic walking. Amazing achievement of City planning! Restrooms at Polo fields, Stow Lake boathouse, DeYoung museum, Cons. of Flowers, Sharon Meadow playground.

Good but can get plenty crowded on the weekend which is,when I did it.

Walked it about 9 p.m. A few of the restaurants and bars were still open, but most shops and other tourists had called it a night. I did see a couple of large rats that looked to have a nest under the sidewalk near the beach.

Nice view, nice weather

One of the best urban walks, period.

Not as barren as I was expecting. Is really lovely actually. Lots of space and parking. Much easier to take a reactive dog to.

I was able to find parking near 8th & Irving for this hike and noticed that there is 2 hour free parking Mon-Fri or unlimited free parking Saturday and Sunday. I would recommend doing this hike on the weekend if you drive here since this hike will take longer than two hours for most hikers of average ability.

I kept on getting semi-lost on this trail even with the downloaded map and kept on having to make micro-corrections to my route along the way. It’s a mixed use trail and I saw walkers, hikers, runners and cyclists along the way. There will also be plenty of tourists just standing around.

You will be on a mix of paved sidewalks and dirt trails, but at no point on the trail will it feel remote. I felt very safe doing this alone as a woman during a weekend day. However, I don’t recommend coming alone because this trail can be rather boring to do by yourself. If you do this trail, I would recommend bringing a friend so you could have a conversation along the way.

I’m glad I experienced this trail, but I don’t see myself prioritizing coming back anytime soon as someone from out of town.

Beautiful views from Golden Gate! So few places that are as scenic as this. Its an awesome walk in the Fall but anytime year round it’s beautiful!

Not hike or really a trail but living here for 10 years still one of my favorite sweet spots and we enjoyed hangout by with the butterflies in Conservatory after it was closed so long. Beautiful winter weather ❤️

Golden Gate Park is a great urban resource for hikers/bikers/joggers. The trail is flat nearly the entire way. Ignore an earlier review that said the park is on a hill. Golden Gate Park is most definitely NOT on a a hill. The western end of the park is nearly at sea level and the elevation change from end to end is only 262 ft. The park consists of approximately 1000 acres and is about 3 miles in length and a bit over 1/2 mile in width. The area was originally sand dues and was master planned and then planted into an arboretum type of setting. Easy and enjoyable urban hike.

Very enjoyable walk. Went early on a Sunday morning. Not too crowded. Beautiful views of the bay. Windy easy stroll across the bridge and back.

Cool, park, but has a side walk part, at one point of the trail, that has traffic noise driving through

Great easy trail, especially at sunset.

Best hike ever . a must do when you are visiting SF.
You could see Alcatraz and angel island. The view of the open waters is amazing and relaxing.
I did this in November 2016.

It's a little hard to figure out exactly where in the presidio this trail is, use the map carefully and it will be great! Expect some steep uphill, but overall pretty easy and relaxing. A good change of scenery and my favorite - view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

my family and I love this place. the lake is beautiful and the park area is really nice also.

This trailer is not well marked but it's quite beautiful when you're in the woods it is powerful seeing the national cemetery

Nice, easy hike in a great urban environment. Thank you to the Presidio Trust for saving this gem from commercial development.

A San Francisco tradition. Just do it!

I biked Golden State Park in August as part of my route from downtown to Sausalito. What an amazing park! There's so much to explore -- from manicured gardens to grassy stretches to wooded knolls; even a windmill and bison(!) -- I know I didn't get to see it all. The park is on a hill, so it tests your endurance for sure! I don't have any specific advice, except to give yourself plenty of time and don't forget to visit the beach at the bottom of the hill/park. It's surreal to be amongst all that green one moment and then squish your toes in the sand, overlooking the ocean, just minutes later.

As a local the less I'm walking next to a road the better. This is worth doing on a weekend when traffic is blocked off of JFK on the eastern end of the park. This hiking route in particular has you going through the botanical garden which $ for admission, while beautiful - not worth paying to simply walk through on the way somewhere else.

Nothing exciting, but the SF skyline

We hiked the full width of the City from bay to breakers. following the official course of the world famous Bay to Breakers race. The course took us down to Howard St., through the Civic Center, and up to the Hayes St. hill which gave us great views of Alamo Park and the famous “Painted Ladies of San Francisco" victorian houses. The remaining miles were through the Panhandle and Golden Gate Park were fabulous. We made few stops at Golden Gate Park – the Conservatory of Flowers, the Music Concourse, the de Young Museum and the observatory tower.  We took a lunch break at Stow Lake. After that, we walked pass the Fly Casting Pools, Speedway Meadows and the Polo Fields now the site of the annual “Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival”. After we crossed the Finish Line at the Great Highway across from Ocean Beach, we returned via the muni metro N-Judah line that took us to any of the Bart stations downtown. It was a great walk thru the City. Total distance was 9.5 miles with moving time of 3 hours.

Great views and amazing trail. You have free busses every 30 min, in case you get tired.

There's a detour at the Wharf due to construction, so you have to walk through a park instead. A bit disappointing hearing the rush of water behind the construction fence and knowing you can't walk there, but a decent walk nonetheless. I started at sundown so most of the walk was at night-- it was well lit and safe, and perfect temperature to walk in without getting overheated.

Beautiful Saturday afternoon... 3.7 mile to and fro ...
