Explore the most popular hiking trails near San Bruno with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

This is my third time hiking in the area and each time I see something new. This is a great workout with stairs and a good mix of ascending/descending, all with a great view. This is also one of the shorter mileage hikes that features the ridge and the beach.

All paved (for better or worse), nice views, good work out.

Unfortunately, lots of air traffic noise pollution (right by the airport).

Love the views of the hills & Bay Area. The hills give you a great workout. Interesting to see the Nike Missle site and learning about the history. I'd definitely do this again and hopefully keep hiking down to the Farallones Trail. Love the smells of the nearby plants and eucalyptus trees.

Decent workout, gorgeous views of bay area and pacifico

A lot of walking across freeways or on the side of the road but great views and a good mix of hills and ocean.

great hike very good workout. will definitely do it again.

Beautiful trail. Watch out for the poison ivy

challenging and worth the effort. we went up the paved way and my 7 year old made it up with me. once you get up to the top the old Nike missle post and buildings are great to look at and take pictures of. the view of course is a awesome.

One of the places I've been to.

Nice climb to the top of the ridge although it is exclusively on a road; once you get to the trees at the top the trail gets a bit more interesting with a view of The Farallones. We walked the horse trail on the way back which provides for a more rugged experience.

Very easy trail, good if you just want something quick. Gives nice views of the bay at certain points. Not heavily trafficked, but quite loud because of the airport & 280 freeway nearby. Has a really lovely field of wildflowers that bloom in spring.

very fun and beautiful hike

Great trail, mostly because it is so close to SF and surrounding area. An easy 20 minutes drive from SF and your in the coastal mountain ridge line. Beautiful!

Yes it’s not dirt but once you get up to the top you can choose dirt and take other trails along the ridge. Great way to spend the morning!

trail running

This is Bay Area winter running at its finest. Windy and hilly but still sunny! The views make the concrete worth the effort. The dirt trails begin after the missile area which is now unkempt and heavily graffitied.

We modified this trail a bit by starting at Rockaway Beach and skipping the trail that leads to and from the college. It was about two miles shorter doing it this way. We went counter-clockwise and the first three miles were straight up with amazing views everytime we turned around. The top flattened out for about a mile and then you head back down with those same amazing views in front of you!
Crossing the road was pretty annoying. You have to be prepared to wait for a break in traffic and then run to the middle of the road, wait for another break in traffic and run to the other side.
We walked about a block through the neighborhood and connected with the lower Mori point trail (bathrooms) and then it was about .3mi to connect back with the coastal trail to Mori Point or you could continue on the lower trail and take a steep set of stairs to get up to Mori Point.
The views from Mori Point are fantastic! We timed it so we could be there around sunset, which is why we parked at Rockaway Beach.

Well maintained paved road leads up to spectacular views of Pacifica. Retired missle control station makes for interesting photo oppurtunities. Great spring hike. Pack water as it can get warm.

Great bay/Crystal Springs reservoir views all the way to the top, where you are rewarded with great ocean views. A lone bathroom at the top, right when you need it.

However, pavement doesn't have that natural hike feeling. On foggy days, you will have no views as you walk amongst the clouds.

Solid loop with great views!

There was tons of available parking at Skyline College and it was free.99! Overall a lightly trafficked trails east of hwy 1, but very very busy on the trails near the beach.

As Paul Berens mentioned, finding the Baquinao Trail was difficult. It seemed mostly used for mountain biking, but luckily we did not encounter any descending cyclists.

amazing view and unique monument at the top. steep paved hike to the monument. bathroom at the top was great to have. free parking.

Great trail for humans and doggos!

Beautiful hike. And a great workout. We followed the map as best we could but three points where we got disconnected from the trail—or where the map is tricky to follow—are:

1) crossing the Cabrillo Hwy (where Sweeney Ridge is transitioning to Old Mori Rd). As others are pointing out the crossing point on the map is a jay-walk and extremely dangerous, so use the cross-walk just north of it.

2) the Bluff Trail as it descends the bluff down to Rockaway Beach

3) picking up the beginning of the Baquinao Trail just north of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. On the last point, we ascended what we thought might be an MTB trail just north of and parallel to Baquinao—beware of downhilling mountain bikers! Anyway, I'm keen to try it again to see if/where we went astray.

Really cool trail. Can get a little interesting as far as going down hill goes. Will definitely keep going.

Sweet & Quiet

Great view towards ocean & bay

Great hike and a great view!

Very nice trail. It was a beautiful sunny day at the Sweeney Ridge Trail and no fog. The route is all paved and not a dirt trail. I even saw a few families with strollers. Only a few spots with shade. The steady incline was a good work out. There was even a restroom at the top of the trail overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I would definitely go again!!!
