I loved this hike. However, It is difficult to find parking if you don’t get there early. The start of the hike is a steep decline, which causes problems on the return journey when it is inevitably warmer and hard to scale. The rest of the hike is well shaded and beautiful. The waterfall is absolutely gorgeous. There is a way to get above the waterfall on the side, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t daring, in good physical shape, or good with heights. I spent 4 hours on this trail with my friends exploring, eating, and taking photos, 10/10 would recommend.

The trailhead wasn’t super clear the first time I went and parking can be hard to find if you don’t show up early in the morning. People tend to leave a lot of trash around which is annoying and disrespectful, but that doesn’t take away from the entertaining, short hike to the falls. The further up into the forested area you get, the more bugs which is gross. The area directly around the falls can get pretty crowded. Make sure to wear shoes you are okay with getting wet... the beginning of the hike involves crossing a shallow river.

The walk to the falls is somewhat difficult. I definitely suggest bringing a water bottle and packing light. There is little shade except for the area around the falls. It’s a pretty crowded trail considering the pandemic, but a fun local hike. Exploring above the falls area is entertaining and beautiful and a great spot for a picnic.

I didn’t do the whole trail. Hiked in the trail the first 40 minutes. But from what I saw, it was gorgeous. Most of the trail I hiked was shaded under the big forest trees. I didn’t even have any uphill climb. We would have hiked longer if a tree wasn’t in our way. So I’d hope the people who maintain the forest do a better job at keeping things clear. I will note, there are camping grounds, saw tents and trailers there. I don’t know if they were campers or homeless. The first 40 minutes of the hike, you hear the river. There are many beautiful hiking trails around the area, I do plan on coming back and hiking other trails. The drive to Downieville is gorgeous. Especially for people who live in Grass Valley, Yuba Sutter and Chico Oroville area.

I love this trail. It’s most beautiful during the winter and early spring when all the animals are out and about. Especially the birds. So I highly recommend to walk this trail during the winter. Its a very easy hike. No uphill or down hill climb. During the summer, I’ve seen snakes slithering about so be careful. Also bring bug spray, lots of bugs during the warmer weather.

Loved this trail! I was a little lost in the beginning. You want to go right but go left/ straight. Pretty flat in the 1st half. Closer to the water it gets pretty rocky and lots of fun ! If you have good watershoes or waterproof shoes that will be super helpful!

This trail was lovely, not a difficult trail to walk, though I didn’t complete the whole hike. I went in August of 2019. There is a lot of shade most of the trails. Bring bug spray. My only real complaint is the wooden deck path to the waterfall. I hope it gets fixed. Wish there was better of maintenance of the structures on this path.

very easy Trail to walk on but it is very trashy dirty not well maintained at all even mattresses seen floating in the water so sad cuz this could be a very beautiful place also a lot of homeless people and Drug deals going on underneath the bridge Santa Rosa needs to clean it up and keep it maintained

We hiked the 2.2 miles to the bridge and back today (6/4/20). There was only one other person on the trail! There were almost no bugs and sone great wildflowers. Tons of grape soda lupine! Flannelbush was in full bloom, gorgeous yellow!! Yellow prickly pear blooms. I highly recommend you get the bbq lunch at the Kennedy Meadows General Store! They have a really nice patio with great views! It was quite hot though, 88 degrees, though it was in the middle of the day. The trail parallels the South Fork Kern River, really nice!!!

hit this trail up last week 8 bucks and had my two boys it was about a 7.6 mile hike round trip and it was narrow in spots but was still easy going for me and two boys 5 and under

For those wondering about overnight wilderness permit, you have to be lucky and swoop a permit. I was lucky enough to pick up a permit for 2 ppl. I'll be going this coming weekend. The Inyo National Forest gives permits virtually now due to covid. I don't believe the campsite is open after doing my research. Many of the visitor centers are closed as well. For those who have hiked this recently. How busy is the hike? And is the water turquoise blue during the time like this?

This trail was very beautiful. The entire trail is difficult, but it you just go to the left side where is the cement path, you can easy go with your kids, but the another side is beautiful but it is long-and you need to go uphill. I do not recommend to go to right side for kids. It is long and tired. in the left side There are two history houses one in the middle of the way and another at the end where is the waterfall. The left side is short and easy. The parking is free and not need to leave you car at PC there is parking inside, try to park a close you can there where are the bathrooms. You can see the waterfall but not go in there, however I saw many people go in there to take pictures. There is a sig to advertise to fine you $1000 but people do not care if you go to the waterfall.

Great trail for a quick hike!!

This one of my favorite trails, it is beautiful at beginning you do not what direction to take fortunately there are people and you can get the right path soon which is to the right side. The half of the trail is plane the another half is rocky. You need to walk in the rock in the river. You need to wear special shoes and pans. There are poison Oak, but you need to identify the plant to be cautious. At the end at waterfall, you can find many people gather there. People try to climb the rock. You can see many beautiful views. You can park at street, and it is free parking. Wear you mask.

Please be careful leaving your car by the side of the street. Me and two others key hole got screwed. They drilled into another person key whole and mine was all messed up. There was another car that got all their stuff stolen. The trail over all is amazing I recommend. But where you leave your car is just sketchy. How I said they tried breaking into my car and another guys too. Please be careful !!! This just happened today 6/4/2020

Completed this hike back in 2016. It was a long day, started at about 0130 and reached the peak around 1100, made it back to portal at about 1730. Make sure to bring hiking pole(s) or a walking stick, only drank about 6 16 oz waters, but had carried 12, gave some to a guy who I saw purifying water on the way back down. Make sure to have a wag bag, used mine at about 14000’ feet, had to duck into space between rocks to use it. View from trail crest and peak are amazing!
