Lovely quiet trail, perfect for running. Would recommend parking and beginning at black mountain ranch park rather than the trailhead this app recommends (that trailhead is at one of the most confusing parts of the loop- black mountain ranch park is pretty clear)

Tougher than it looks.

great Sunday morning ride, awesome trail for mtn bikes and hiking. There's a farmers market next to the dirt parking lot Sundays from 1030 to 3pm, so I was picked up a nice basket of organic strawberries to snack on after a long bike ride.

Trail closes at 7:30, lame, basically you are forced to hike at the peak of the day.

I found it hard to find and access this trail. We came off of Del Sur Road where there’s a small dirt parking lot and found it by accident. But we had to go down a steep incline on a concrete pathway to get to it. I agree with the other comments that it is not marked well. For a while, I thought I was on the Coast to Crest Trail. It was a decent hike from where we started to Rancho Santa Fe area—a total of about 5.4 miles round trip. The creek is nice to hear as you walk, but it’s mostly not visible. There’s rolling hills to see, but there’s almost always homes on the horizon so there’s only a brief section where you feel like you are away from civilization. There were only a few people on it which was nice.

Please don't go hike on this trail. It seems the land is now private and hiking is treated as trespassing.

Gorgeous hike in the spring time, beautiful lake views and rolling hills and an abundance of birds and wild flowers and blooming cactus are everywhere.

Very scenic hike around the Olivenhain Resevoir with views of Lake Hodges and the Paciific Ocean.

I really liked this hike. I ended up doing about 6.5 miles round trip with a few small route detours.

First mile is a pretty good uphill workout, great training hike for harder hikes. I liked the views and that you view first the Reservoir and then Lake Hodges if you go all the way up.

Will definitely do this one again.

Great day hike. Nice workout and good views. You can park down the road if the lot is full. There is also a water fountain up near the top with potable water.

Lightly trafficked is open to interpretation, but this is a great trail system for mtn biking if you don't want anything truly technical or hilly. You can definitely find some good steep hills once you start exploring, but this more of a fitness ride than a skills/test yourself scenario. For a bit of fun and a great climb, head east to Raptor Ridge. The descent makes the climb worth it.

Great views but getting to the top isn’t the best. Pretty slippery and very steep ... once up there it’s pretty neat, especially around sunset. We looped around the water tower ... ran into locked fence with barbwire which was a challenge

Very hard to stay on trail. We got lost and added 2 additional miles. Over grown. Scenic for 60% of the trail. The other parts are kinda through neighborhoods of Santa Luz.

i would only bike here. park at miners loop then take lilac canyon to ahwee. this will set you up to lusardi. its a fast downhill with a long climb back up.

This hike was very steep and highly recommend bringing a walking stick and appropriate shoes. There was a lot of gravel and loose rocks making the end a very slippery descent.

After a steep start on loose gravel jeep track, take the walking trail on the left. It is easier going, but meanders back onto the jeep track. It's worth doing all three flags. Views are nice and it's good quick cardio. Less than an hour, there and back. A hiking pole may be useful for the slippery sections.

the trail completely disappears and you'll be trail blazing through prickers and sometimes in someone's back yard. avoid this trail.

Good flat run

Climb is steep and slippery due to the loose sand and rocks. Really nice views of the area from the top. Would say this should be labeled moderate instead of easy.

Not the easiest at the start, but a good, quick hike. 3 peaks with good views.

Good local day hike with some great views of the lake. Tough minor switchbacks to reach the peak. Pretty crowded trail.

Did half this hike until darkness came. Beautiful views but not much shade

not the easiest trail. good views and relatively straight forward. lots of rocks so watch out

This is less of a hike and more of an aggressive walk. It’s terribly boring and we just kept going hoping it would get better. It didn’t. Part of the trail has you walk through the middle of a subdivision. I don’t go hiking to walk through neighborhoods. Do not recommend.

Amazing views of the lake and wild life while having choices to bike, run or hike many different trails. My go to place!

Lake Hodges is a great place. There are many different trails there.

Loved this hike!
