This was a really nice hike-beautiful scenery. You do need s permit before you go, but you can get it online before you go, and you do need to check in before you start your hike. The trail head is well maintained and they have fresh drinking water so you can fill up before you head out--& you should make sure al your water bottles are filled to the top (really hot hike in August).

This was our 2nd trip to potato chip rock. First time we took a longer trail at Poway recreation center. It was a very fun decent hike. We saw snakes, plants, even rabbits. My 6 year old son loved the trail. This time we took this fire road because my friend wanted to try. As others are mentioned, it's short and easy. It's just a paved steep road. I'd say if you don't have enough time and want to take a very short trip to potato chip rock, take this road.

This hike was ok. My kids and dog and I hiked this today and it was pretty short. The view was pretty cool.

Great Trail for Hiking !! At First I Do Recommend purchasing a Permit. Second the start is You head down toward the Falls it's fairly easy . But the hard part is coming back its a work out on your legs but the View from the Falls is all worth it !! Very Beautiful and Breath Taking !! Overall Great Trail and I shall return and try again !! Also it is Normal for it to be A little dry right now !! The Falls had little Dripplits coming from it . But enjoy the Beautiful View !!

You need a permit so go online and purchase one (one permit admits 5 people). You'll sign in before starting the trail and bring plenty of water, about 1 gallon per person. The hike down wasn't bad, it's the hike up that is brutal, especially in the middle of the day was NO SHADE! The Falls itself was nice. Worth the hike but probably would do it again in the later afternoon to avoid the heat.
