Great first hike of the season. Enjoyed getting out of the house. Trail is in good shape. There is some snow on the ground still and water run off, but all in all no issues. The gate is locked so it is a half mile hike in to the trailhead. Great weather.

Beautiful trail that lead to a small flowy creek. Took my 13 yr old, 9 yr old and hubby had my almost 2 year old in a hiking backpack carrier. Kids were good on the trail . Little difficult with the 2 year old on the carrier but doable. Plan to be on the trail with kids for about 3 hours.

Great moderate hike with lots of shade. Good friendly dog trail but lots of mosquitos.

A buddy and I went Oct 27-28, the weekend with the crazy wind! Trail was in great condition and easy to follow. We ended up stopping and camping at Maude Lake because of the wind and we thought rock bound pass might be a little too windy. There was no snow anywhere except at the top of a few of the peaks around. I really enjoyed the trail and hike and would like to give it another try when it warms back up.

Before I forget, there are no toilets at the Trailhead. I thoroughly enjoyed this hike BUT the alltrails map has a portion that is not an actual trail... It's like somebody just took a shortcut off trail... It's 5 miles if you don't do that (LNT). For me it was an easy hike with a few areas of uphill that took a little more work. A few areas were buggy but mostly none. Shade must of the time. Didn't see any wildlife, there were a couple mountain bikers, and dogs are allowed.

Trail is super well maintained/built. I think most of it was actually a road that was converted into a trail by spreading shattered boulders to narrow the toad into a single track. It snowed in the evening and we were gifted with a beautiful frosting over the landscape in the morning.

Great trail, non stop obstacles. This trail is a lot of fun and very challenging. It rained most of first day. We camped at Barrett Lake, it was cold and extremely windy at night. From what I here the wind is normal for this area. Be prepared. This trail is a new favorite of mine. JKU on 40's

Good Trail fairly well marked. It's all up hill to get there and the loose granite rocks that are about the size of softballs can make walking a pain, but over all easy day hike. Didn't have much trouble with mosquitoes also did not get into the water since it only looked to be about 1'-2' deep

Dusty. Limited views. Difficult to get to the lake for swimming. Otherwise, a reasonable hike.

Did a 2 night backpacking trip at Pleasant Campground. We started at Loon Lake campground and hiked in one evening to Pleasant Campground and stayed overnight both nights at the same awesome campsite about 100ft from the water. We were able to piece together some good day hiking (9miles total) the second day, and hiked back to Loon Lake campground the third day. They had clean, relatively new outhouses at Pleasant Campground, which was a nice surprise. Also provided picnic tables and fire pits at each site. Overall, really nice area and trail for an easy-moderate weekend outing.

this is a very beautiful trail and lakes. The trails are clearly marked to get to spider and buck island. seems very dog friendly. there are downsides though: lots of traffic on trails so if you're like me and want to get away from crowds, you might want to consider as a day hike. Also from spider lake, all you hear is loud reving of the off roaders and blaring music in the early eve. A lot of garbage left from them too. Overall, it's worth the trek for the scenery, but you must be prepared for the rubicon people.

Well we spent two nights camping around Loon Lake. We canoed in from the other side of the dam as the campground was closed due to snow/winter damage. We canoed over to Pleasant Camp(near the trail) and hiked to a water source coming out of the mountain where we soaked and ate for and hour or so and headed back to the canoe about 2.5-3 miles. We had the lake and trail to ourselves in the middle of the week. Very relaxing two nights

Perfect early summer day. Easy cruising and perfect for the hound with patches of snow and great water the whole way. Went to Spider. Sweet spot

Perfect little trail. The main gate to the campground isn't open yet so add about .34 mile down to the start of the trail. Super easy and a beautiful view.

trail closed due to snow. NO updated schedule of trail opening, or at least it needs to be disclosed as trail closed to 4x4 during such and such dates. spent driving for 2 hours just to find a closed trail.

Definitely one of my favorite trails! Thank you Hi-Landers 4wd Club for all the hard work you do to maintain this trail every year!

Oct. 19 2018. I started on the trail by noon. With the shorter light hours this time of year I was in a time crunch. The added wrong route didn't help me either. There are several trails you can pick up. Great scenic views and nice lakes to camp at. Things are starting to freeze at night including me! The back part of the trail gets thin. I'd recommend GPS to help keep you on track. Next time I do this trail I"ll give my self more time. 2.5 days will make it much more enjoyable. This area is Desolation Wilderness and you do need a pass!

Beautiful shoreline and extremely well-maintained trail. Even ran into a CCC crew working the trail and thanked them for their service. We ended up diverging down to the Pleasant Boat-in Campground and spent the night there. We fished the shoreline around the campground and managed to catch a few small rainbow trout.

This was a perfect hike. It wasn't a ton of elevation climb, the temperature was warm but not too hot. We stopped about 3/4 of the way and ate lunch overlooking the lake and nearby mountains. The only thing that was confusing was getting there. Google maps was inaccurate about the trailhead based off the coordinates of Alltrails. You have to actually go INSIDE Loon lake campground, pay the $8 for a day pass then follow signs for "Wilderness parking".
