The beginning of the trail is uphill so be prepared to bring good hiking shoes. Go early before the heat comes out since there is no shade.

Did this as a trail run/hike. Clocked it at 12.4. The ascent up is no joke. I ran five miles non-stop. Then ran/walked the last to the summit. Ran back down. Starts getting hard at the FSR road. Only water is at the very beginning and end so don’t count on being able to refill on the way

I love this trail. I’m from LA and every time I go out to PS, I always hike this one. It’s short, but it’s a mild kicker. The elevation gain is what makes it, along with the views at the top

Nice and easy hike, but very busy, including the waterfall, which is also too full to be enjoyed. The place is FULL of monkeys who decided they don’t need a mask. Super frustrating. Aaaand... the useless ranger doesn’t wear a mask either and doesn’t enforce the rules.

Spectacular canyon but crowded at the waterfall. And a little pricey to get in. But still very much worth it.

love this hike only problem is the fee which I totally understand. take both my kids on the trail regularly one is 1 1/2 the other is 4 they love this hike! would reccomend going early since the sun is pretty intense! I soak my kids in the waterfall for the hike back! water is very cold but extremely worth checking out!

It was a great experience. The trail is pretty much going uphill and little shade on the trail but once you get to the waterfall it’s so worth it

Took this trail on Saturday as it opened at 7:30 and it was quite warm, but that made the cold water feel great. The waterfall got crowded by about 10 AM. Don’t go off trail as they are blocked for a reason and there were a few snakes around according to other hikers.

Due to COVID, the tram is not open so we had to hike down to Idyllwild. We did Palm Springs to the summit to Idyllwild (~26 miles) and started at 1am from the Palm Springs Museum Trailhead. Depending on group size/pace, you may need to start even earlier. Once the sun comes out, it warms up quick. The trail is obvious most of the way and sporadic signs help at different trail junctions. Definitely plan your route out in advance though, as some of the signs aren’t very clear. Get as high up as you can before the sun comes out! There are rattlesnakes on the trail as well. Overall, an incredible hike. Very difficult but very rewarding.

Excellent trail. Nice climb on the way up. Waterfall at the end. Nice shady (depends on time of day) return.

I did this loop by mistake. As a newbie, I missed the PCT trail in saddle junction (the direct route to Tahquitz Peak) and followed signs toward Tahquitz meadow. It all worked out in the end as the All Trails app got me to where I was going all the same :) it was a strenuous hike for my pup and I especially since we carried a ton of water but beautiful trail & spectacular views from the top!

I hated this trail. Probably the worst we’ve done. Completely pointless.

This trail ends at a private property gate so absolutely think about it as a complete out and back. We left at 7 am today and it was already 80 degrees. Even though the forecast said cloudy we had a blazing hot desert sun beating down on us all morning. We didn't complete the full trip back as we followed a small ephemeral creek trail down to a water tank. That larger trail ALSO ends at private property. There is a very narrow, steep trail that runs into another dry creek bed that we followed to the road then took the sidewalk back to the car. Ended up being 6.6 miles total. Start early, bring lots of water, and maybe try this one earlier in the season (March) when the morning weather is more forgiving. It's considered a "must do" in Palm Springs, but frankly the view of the valley isn't charming enough to justify it. Not a favorite, but now I can say I did it.

Exceptional hike — the waterfall is beautiful at the half point of the loop trail. There’s a small waterfall prior to the 6ft water fall that was lovely. The hike is steep and it’s not shaded majority of the time. There are many view points to enjoy. Definitely, recommend this hike when there’s less people to simply enjoy the sounds of the waterfall. We plan on returning.
