Guajome Regional Park is located in the coastal community of Oceanside and has a little bit of everything that San Diego County offers. Two day use areas with new playgrounds, a basketball court and lots of green lawn are ideal for picnicking or just relaxing. Two ponds attract a wide variety of migratory birds and serve as home to a variety of fish that will test the skills of any angler. 4.5 miles of park trails meander through diverse Southern California habitats such as woodlands, chaparral, wetlands, and mixed grasslands. Wedding ceremonies can also be held in a small gazebo that overlooks the lake. 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the park is close to many entertaining and historical points of interest. The Cristianitos Fault is a major earthquake fault line located less than one mile from the San Onofre nuclear power plant. This hike takes you on a 3 mile loop through San Onofre State Beach to the site of the fault line. Along the way, you'll see the Monterey Formation, which holds most of the oil and gas deposits known in the LA basin and off the coast, as well as the abrupt end of the San Mateo formation at the fault line.Show more

Great area to do as many or few miles as you like, and the up and down trails almost map out like a heartbeat! Mixed trail for bikers, runners, and hikers. Mixture of solid dirt, sand, and some pebbles around the 11 mile loop. Great for dogs, and most trails are good for strollers too. Plenty of places to park to join the loop at multiple spots. Very little to no shade, so make sure you bring plenty of water.Show more
#7 - San Luis Rey Mission Trail to Guajome Regional Park
Ivey Ranch Park

Length: 10.2 mi • Est. 4 h 7 m
This route is proposed as a designated route that would have been used by the mission to travel between Mission San Luis Rey de Francia and Pala, one of its six historic ranches. Mission San Luis Rey de Francia was one of the last of the California Missions to be built and it filled a key gap between San Diego de Alcala and San Juan Capistrano. However the El Camino Real in this area probably lies underneath the highway that bears its name to the south and to the north it lies inaccessible because of the presence of Camp Pendleton. The San Luis Rey Trail serves as a good alternative because of the natural state of the San Luis Rey river and the abundance of wildlife to be found. In addition this route includes the recovered cisterns for the mission, Heritage Park in Oceanside. At the Guajome terminus, Guajome Park offers camping and an exhibit of plants used by Native Americans. The nearby Rancho Guajome Adobe and Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum also provide a glimpse into California's rich history.Show more
