Great trail along the coast

Such a beautiful hike; redwoods that are quiet and mysterious to begin, then it opens up to amazing views. Fog, meadows and plenty of birds to watch. One of the best hikes I’ve been on.

A nice mellow stroll down an out n back. Some really beautiful sweeping views of the valleys out here. Just be warned there are ALOT of ticks this time of year in the tall grasses especially on the last mile of this route. I would maybe skip the end for this reason. At least during this time of year. Especially if your out with your pups.

Love this place! It is a nice and friendly hike for all beginners. They also have parking spaces in between this hike so you can park in the middle and cut the hike in half. We ended up parking in the middle of this trail to make it 4 miles altogether. Has a fabulous view of the ocean at all times. Great for kids and we will be back again!

I did part of the trail as a short loop from the wrights beach parking area to the next beach access point maybe 3/4 mile away, then down from the bluff to return along the beach. Beautiful trail, as others have said. Suggest wearing long pants - when I was there in early June the section after the first boardwalk was choked with waist-high weedy brush, including prickly thistle plants crowding the trail and making it quite narrow at times. Not so nice to brush against with bare legs.

It is a pretty easy hike. I hiked 4 mi in then return, so 8 mi total. Slopes gently downhill for first 3.5 mi then flat. Uphill almost all the way back to gate. Lots of wildflowers. Mostly shaded once you get into the trees. Only saw 5 mountain bikers, and 2 hikers. Wide trail/dirt road.

The trail is not marked clearly. There are two trails that branch of the main one that have high grasses and narrow walking area. We stuck to the main walkway to avoid ticks..... ended up plucking 12 of the dog. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this hike.... if you do it , leave the dog at home.

One of my favorite trails ever, especially on a Monday...you have the whole place to yourself! With epic ocean views, rolling green hills, wildflowers, wildlife tracking & viewing, trickling streams and waterfalls, dog friendly... it's perfect!

This is an easy walk atop the bluffs with an ocean view almost all the way. Wildflowers were everywhere in early April. There are smooth colorful rocks, with chert, blue shist, and plenty others in the mix on the coarse-grained beaches along the way.

This trail is fabulous! Only about 2 Miles until you get to a small peak. The view from that hill is magnificent! And then 2 Miles back to the parking lot. The entire time you see the ocean, and you even have opportunities to walk down to the beach. We walked through golden red grasses and a big rock patch. We saw wild iris blooming here and there. The highlight was definitely the rocks in the ocean. If you want, you can even go further up the trail and make the hike longer. The small peak was a nice stopping point, though.

Beautiful hike, however need to start earlier in the morning. Did not get a chance to finish it. Probably did half the hike and had to turn around.

Gorgeous views!

An absolute favorite for fairly easy trail running. You cannot beat these views. Being ocean front, can get very very windy. And crowded on weekends. Go before 8-9 and have it more to yourself.

This trail is great for those looking for a nice, moderate jaunt. Out and back around 7 miles, it has a fair amount of uphill and downhill and that trail is wide and easy to identify. This hike goes through beautiful redwood groves and has plenty of coverage. There are some exposed portions of the trail, but that typically do not last long and the views of the coast during these portions are usually spectacular. Bonus that I can bring my pup along as well! My only complaint was that the Willow Creek Road Trail wasn't terribly well marked once you get on the trail. We ended up going a different direction off the trail marked here on the website before realizing 20 minutes later. Weather was perfect and the leaves on some of the deciduous trees were starting to change!

It's all in what you are looking for. in this case, 5 stars for the view. Easy trail with one uphill section. Total out and back mileage from the trailhead at Wright's Beach Campground to Goat Rock parking area is 9.1 miles. The trail stops at Blind Beach. From there, either take the road to Goat Rock, or drop down to the beach and follow it. At high tide it is a bit more difficult, as part of the beach walk involves a rock scramble. To add a little extra, keep following the beach past Goat Rock to the end of the Russian River sand bar for a total of about 10 miles. views are phenomenal the entire way!

Not physically demanding, but I wish it had been. It was a nice leisure walk though, and we saw a deer scale the cliffs when it somehow stranded itself on the beach. The large hill/mountain on the right would've been a bit more appropriate for us maybe. But the views were lovely as ever.

I was seeking something a bit more challenging, but gorgeous views!

Great hike, with awesome views. Completed the entire hike from Wrights Beach to the northern end of Goat Rock beach.

You have to do this trail while at Sonoma. Fantastic scenery!

Great trail for a hot summer day - at least 93 in Santa Rosa but it was a balmy 80 at the start of the hike. Nice long downhill- nothing awful coming back up the trail however a few steeper sections so wear some good support shoes. A friend went with us in a pair of Nikes and got blisters on the balls of her feet.

Uplifting awesome walk that opens into mellow meadows amidst rolling hills with views far and beyond. The track narrows and moves down into thickly wooded areas with bubbling streams of water and colorful wildflowers. The track moves between these environments steadily but gently moving deeper into the forest. It has an enchantment that made me just want to keep following that track.

Drive west from Occidental on Willow Creek Rd, and park near the gate. After the gate the paved road quickly turns into a wide trail. Initially there is a wonderful vista of the valley looking towards the coast. Quickly, the view becomes more forested with second or third growth Redwoods. A pleasant hike for a hot summer day.

A few miles in I suggest taking the Upper Old Barn Trail which follows an open grassy ridge, heading North by Northwest. Soon, vistas open up and the goal of this hike presents itself rather nicely. You'll pass fences, an old barn (da), and soon a trail intersection.

Take Seven Springs Trail east and you will keep going higher along another ridge. You'll be rewarded again with incredible panoramic vistas to the west and south west. The ridge across the valley has Coleman Valley Rd hidden just out of view. Coastal fog may tease you. You may see several culverts along the way. They are the Springs. I didn't count Seven, but I was distracted by the view. More Redwoods, some long exposed open fields (so bring water and a hat). Watch out for ticks and snakes as there are a lot of grassy fields.

The trail will return you to Willow Creek Rd just near the gate. It's a great loop.

The views were stunning when I was here a couple months ago. Only a couple other people on the trail so it was easy to stop for pictures and to look at wildflowers. Not a hard trail and look forward to repeating!

Beautiful 7.6 mile hike (round trip), that starts at Wright's Beach and ends with a steep hill at Goat Rock.

Plenty to see and explore off the path, so the 7.6 miles can turn into plenty more, if you want to explore the beaches.

Come prepared with Sunscreen, water, food, warm clothes (for when you are resting -- it can get pretty windy.) and maybe even a towel, for if you decide to get wet in the ocean.

Great walk along the beautiful coast. Gorgeous scenery and protective boardwalk where it became too marshy. Humping up the steep hill at about the 2 mile mark definitely worth the effort for the panoramic views. Skip the last 1/2 mile down to Goat Rock with the many people who drive down to it.

Very pretty and very wet!

Had to rush along the trail thanks to approaching rain, but the magnificent coastal views are something to be savored. Trail is pretty much flat the entire way.
