This was a great trail! Super family friendly! There’s a lot of sea life to explore. We got there around 7:30am, and there was hardly anyone there! Being on the coast, it really wasn’t that cold. The youngest in our group was 12, and we could have easily brought my grandson who is 3! Can’t wake to go back!

I’ve hiked this trail numerous times and have always forgotten to leave a review. This is a wonderful trail and great for all ages. It’s easy to navigate and it’s fun walking on the boardwalk sections. There are a couple of areas where you need to hike down embankments and back up again but it isn’t strenuous. Just an FYI for anyone with balance issues. The views are beautiful and the hike can easily be broken up into sections if you don’t want to hike the entire thing at once. It’s also part of the California Coastal Trail system which is cool.

Oh my goodness! I cannot say enough good things about this hike. It was grey in Sonoma but when we got out to the coast it was sunny with nice clouds. The views were breathtaking. Lots of access to beaches that seem almost private. Pretty flat trail with a little bit of mud this time of year (but completely manageable). Saw a hawk with a fish on one of the telephone poles.

Lovely flat trail along the coast. Various points to get on it as you pass through a couple of parking lots. Would like to come back for a run given the flat course. There is one hill not long before the turn around point. Free parking.

Great out and back hike with some epic views. Went in the winter and it was a bit muddy with some fallen trees. Lots of incline and is a good workout. Always a favorite hike when I’m out on the coast!

Trail is mostly exposed scrubland. A few basic views of the cliffs and water. Flat and featureless for the most part. Might make a decent running workout trail but for sights and sounds, meh

This trail is breathtaking and extremely easy for all skill levels. Make an afternoon of it and if you're not worried about heights, take every single side trail that goes towards the cliffs. You'll be able to see seabirds from above them, it's amazing! There are a lot of deer along the trail as well.

For me, the trail was not as described. I went over Labor Day weekend starting at Shell Beach. The walk to the beach was nice and all downhill. From there it was all uphill. I’d prefer a combination of trails vs all up or all down. I walked for about an hour and a half and never saw the water. I’m glad I went but next time will start from the other end. The beach was nice and secluded. Roped off and a platform out on the water you could swim to and dive from.

Park at Wright Beach to do the full 9 mi. Otherwise a great hike. Bring all the water you'll need as there is nowhere to fill up on the trail.

Only hike a portion of this trail out and back starting at Shell Beach and turning around at peaked hill. Did it on a whim in very foggy conditions I so didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. Gorgeous landscape and views of the coast. Saw lots of birds. The path was fairly even until just before peaked hill, which starts a brief but steep ascent. Would love to come back and do it again sometime when it’s slightly less foggy.

This trail is in my top five. The trail head is tough to get. It’s the road gate and then you hike down the road to the campsite where the actual trail begins. Breathtaking redwood grove to start the hike. Nice trails and scenery to shell beach. Well worth it.

Great trail. Amazing views (so much so I chose to prepose to my girlfriend there!!) relatively easy elevation wise. Stay on the trail though! Take it from me, I learned the hard way! (Poison oak)

This is a really pretty trail, and it’s pretty easy. This time of the year in June, there are lots of wildflowers and during a clear day,The coast is really pretty highly recommend.

Beautiful sunny day on the Sonoma Coast. Easy hike from Wright’s Beach to Goat Rock with a lot of wild flowers in bloom.

Trail starts in a beautiful shady redwood grove. You gain elevation pretty quick and have to navigate some downfallen trees, but it’s nothing too challenging. After you pop out of the trees it’s still wildflowers, butterflies, and bees galore! The smell of the wildflowers was incredible and it was teeming with life. If you enjoy insects there’s plenty to observe!! You wind your way out towards the coast (there is NO coverage - sunscreen up and pre hydrate!) and peak at a spectacular view. It’s an easy paved walk to shell beach after coming out into the open area. I made it a partial loop by coming up red hill - either way, prepare for the uphill! It’s a little challenging back up into the shady grove, but so rewarding. Don’t start at noon like I did. It’s HOT HOT with no coverage. Beautiful trail, quintessential California. :)
