It’s very nice once you get to the top. Definitely do it in the morning because it gets hot going up

Starting to get hot so the earlier you go the better. Thankfully a little of the June Gloom kept it on the cooler side. I took the little short cut (Dead Cow Trail) and thought it gave better views than the other part of the Palo Comado Trail.

Up the China Flat Trail. Back down the Suicide Trail. Fun hike. Great views. The app map was helpful as there a lot of little trails at the top. As long as you have the hike locked in before you start, even with no cell coverage, map keeps working with GPS. Very little shade. Take plenty of water. Not a good midday summer hike. Was nice in the morning.

This trail is great for beginner hikers,, those that want to be in nature for a quick walk/hike, or those with kiddos who want to hike! It’s on the easy/moderate side. There’s a clear trail to follow, with some pathways diving into nature. It’s a nice combination to have both. People walking dogs and at the park are around. It was fun and got my heart rate up :)

China Flat semi loop w/Semi Peak. 6.1 mi total. Started 1400 King James Court and went up China Flat trail, then to Simi Peak trail. On the way back we to took Suicide Trail back to China Flat. It was a sunny but really nice day. Not too warm and every once in a while got just a tad chilly. But really it was perfect. This would be really tough on a hot day, there is just a couple of small spots with shade. Beautiful views. We were able to see mountain tops with snow (one of which should be Mt. Baldy but i can't tell) and also channel islands.

A fun loop with great views.
Very light foot traffic but mountain bike trail at the higher elevations and along Cheesboro section.
Best avoided on weekends as the bike traffic is much heavier.

A pleasant hike up Palo Comado Canyon until it around the 1.5 mark where the ascent becomes more of a workout and especially on a warm day. Well worth the effort to make it to China Flats and it's many spurs and views.
Downhill is via Suicide Trail bike path (Warning: for experienced downhill bikers only) which is a steep descent before a brief steep bastard of a hump back towards the start.
The final section is by necessity through a housing development but we aim to explore better options in future. For this trip on a hot day we were tired and just wanted to get back to the car.
The trip up to China Flats and then retracing your way down Palo Comado Canyon is also a worthwhile option if you want to avoid the less interesting scenic option via Suicide Trail.

Nice hike. little bit of a workout at the beginning, but once you get to the top, totally mellow. Great views

Recommend having an app like this or AllTrails for reference on the hike. We missed a turn off the trail- a bit tough and uphill to recover. Saw quail on this venture.

Excellent to Simi Peak

Great views. Luckily found a cloudy day to hike since there's not much shade along the trail normally.

Did this with a bunch of my friends definitely recommend to hike when it's cloudy so you don't get to hot climbing up the higher you go the colder so be ready for some chills and always have a hiking buddy and plenty of water when you go

Very fine hike. I went north on the Palo Comado Canyon Trail for about a mile and a half. Very tranquil hike with no vestiges of the surrounding urban environment.

This is a trail that we used to hike from our house. There are remains of an old cattle ranch at the top and a small lake when the water table is up. We've seen deer up here several times. Bring plenty of water as there isn't much shade.

An easy hike with lots of dogs walking their owners. We got this hike in before the rain sets in tomorrow. A blue jay and a rattler kept us company.

I can see why this is rated moderate, as some short, rocky inclines were challenging in the summer heat - but on a cool morning I can imagine this trail being on the easy side. Beautiful views, not crowded, will hike it again.

A really good hike for someone who wants to have a small adventure. Even though you should always stick to the trail you wouldn't get lost if you didn't. It's perfect for late starters as most of the hike is in the shade. Perfect for dogs, with a dog park in the actual park. The trail head, which I found when I was driving out, is in the first parking lot, where the pond is.
