It was a really nice hike a little steep at times. Make sure you wear shoes with a grip as I slid down a few times on my way back. I will be back soon

Beautiful in all aspects, views and flowers abound, the only “dent” is the shooting noises from the near by range, my first time there today, Sunday, took me by surprise... you hear the shots most of the hike as the sound bounces off the mountains... it steals the purpose of a nature hike...

There is no waterfall on this trail; that is the OTHER Whitney Canyon trail. This one follows the Santa Clara Truck Trail up to the summit of Los Pinetos, which is mainly occupied by radio towers. By all means hit the summit, but I would suggest going just past the spur to the summit, to Wilson Saddle. There are picnic benches and toilets there, a much more pleasant place to stop and rest.

We hiked it, but it is probably more fun as a MTB route. Long, steady ascent on an old road grade, with views that change slowly. No shade on this route, so plan accordingly.

Hiked this trail yesterday. It was beautiful. Still lots and lots of wildflowers. Did it alone with my dog It was a weekday and it felt pretty secluded at times. There was one spot that my dog had to walk through tar. There were some pavers spread out across it . But, he couldn’t really manage them. Somehow the tar even got in his water bowl! Then he didn’t want to drink from it. That was the only negative. There are bathrooms and trash cans at the bottom which is awesome. Didn’t have to take waste bags home with us for a change. Felt pretty safe. Beautiful and a good workout.

Has some great vistas, but can hear highway noise in the distance and can see it at some points. If you live close though it’s a nice workout if you combine with the fire roads that extend off of this trail.

Fair with nice shade.

If you take the longer loop, it’s close to 6miles with significant elevation change making it a moderate trail. Very clean and well kept, not busy. Fantastic views at the top. Some really lovely flowers this time of year and an interesting bubbling patch of oil along with various tarry spots along the way. Overall very interesting and enjoyable.

A little noisy this morning from the gunshots at the shooting range, but still a nice little hike with the wildflowers in bloom. I still get a kick hiking up and seeing all the big cone spruce.

One of the best trail for hiking for beginners, really awesome view and so quiet for meditation lovers or relaxation

Gorgeous canyon views!

Amazing views from the canyon! Wild flowers along the trail in mid April.

Although the trail is closed, there is no one stopping you and there are even hikers on the trail. The trail is washed away at points but if you are okay with wet shoes you can follow the trail till the end. Go shortly after rains so there is flowing water. The trail is beautiful, rocky, shady with overhanging oaks. This trail sparked my interest in hiking

An almost hard (depending on your age and time of year) nine mile out and back alternative rout to Mission Point. Light traffic with the occasional mountain biker (apart from at the higher elevation).
Really great views looking out to Santa Clarita and even better ones overlooking the San Fernando Valley all the way to downtown Los Angeles in the distance..

Short and steep. Nice views from the top of the old Melody Ranch western movie set.

I think I went the wrong way, trails aren’t exactly marked. It was more of a nature walk than a hike. The waterfall at the end was neat but I don’t recommend letting your dog up there if you bring one. It was not easy or safe getting my 55lb Shepherd mix back down.

A herd of bison! A barnyard petting zoo! A historic mansion! An Old West town, complete with trading post! An oak-shaded picnic area! What's not to like?

Great intro hike for the kids, lots to see and do.

Excellent hike as plenty of shade and water/greenery to add to the beauty. I added rice canyon to it which was very nice, but it's easy to see in a month or two the poison oak will be over grown everywhere in the rice canyon section. I did accidentally step on a rattler and lucky avoided getting bit on rice portion. The gun club is a bit noisy but I don't mind. Weather is perfect this time of year to enjoy these trails.

I'm new to hiking and did this trail. Was a bit harder than expected but certainly worth it. This time of year, it is great, cool and green, with excellent views. I was happy I completed, next time I'll do with my backpack with some weight to it.

A bit dull as a hike, this route is perhaps best used as a beginner MTB trail. We know the wildlife appreciates this corridor -- we saw a coyote and a couple of deer today -- but the views are only ok, for example trail's end looking onto a Kohl's parking lot.

My parents, my 7 year old and I did this trail. We are beginners at hiking and although the uphill made us take a few breaks, it was very doable. Once you get closer to the top the trail does get rocky and slipper but other than that the trail seemed well maintained.

Great 5 ml trail good for running & walking.

Loved all the trees. The kids loved all the tall grass.

Easy hike to a small seasonal waterfall. You can make it somewhat harder with some easy scrambles up rocks to go further up the canyon, but if you have small kids or a dog, the first waterfall is a good place to stop and splash around.

Beautiful trail with a major incline. One side of the mountain is steep and one side has a series of switchbacks a small year round creak flows in the canyon below. Hike it in the cool months between March and May and you will see miles of rare California green and lots of wild flowers making they’re brief appearance for the year. Highly recommended!

I can't tell how much I like this hike. haha. We started around 2:30p. Parked in the first lot outside the gates, just in case we didn't make it back by sunset (they lock the gate at sunset). Did this counter clockwise. It's like you're somewhere else for the first portion. Lots of shade, large rocks, and a stream. Very nice and cool - Up through about the 2mi mark from the gate. Once you get to the top, there is a cool tree laying on it's side and a view. We thought this was the very top. But, we were fooled we walked about 5 mins past it and there was an even bigger tree with an even better view.

Great views with some shade and water features.

Great trail! If you want a nice up hill workout, make sure you start the trail from the front to get that big hill, otherwise the back way is a great workout as well, but without he big hill upward hike. Either way, great trail! You can also turn around in the middle, by the stream part, and go back and that offers more distance and intensity.

Very nice hike!

Been hiking this beautiful trail for at least two years now, after heavy rains the waterfalls and streams are amazing .. A few weeks back I saw a mountain lion about 50 feet in front of me .. Seen plenty of deer and signs of cougars but this was my very first encounter.. so be Careful , keep dogs on leash and kids very close ...

Nice little hike in the Newhall Pass, with great views, though you're never out of earshot of the freeways.
