Explore the most popular walking trails near New Cuyama with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

Details: There are actually two different starting points for this trail. The one mentioned here is off Spyglass road (3 miles RT), but the other one is off Foothill Road (about 7 miles RT). This review is based off the shorter version from Spyglass Road.

Pros:
- Great views
- The first half is mostly flat
- Dogs allowed

Cons
- My biggest complaint, regardless of where you start, is that there is no sign or indication to let you know you've reached the finish line. You just have to assume because of the view and the path everyone else is taking.
- At least half of the trail doesn't have shade
- It is very crowded, but the longer version is less crowded. Even when I left today around 8pm, all the parking spots were still full.
- Not enough parking.
- Not well marked. I got turned around more than once because there were a couple forks with no clear indication of which way to go.

I’m a beginner hiker and this trail was perfect for a first hike!

Beautiful, short loop with scenic views of the surrounding canyons. We had a dog with us and it was great for her. It’s mostly single track with some steep downhill exposures. Some points are rocky but for the most part it’s smooth and well maintained. We did it clockwise. Towards the end of the loop, the trail becomes grassy two-track. Bees and butterflies everywhere right now. Watch for snakes, and horse traffic (and poop).

A great trial that unfortunately everyone knows about. Not great for hot days due to lack of shade though. Always high foot traffic, and parking is usually frustrating; pay attention to parking signs because cars Will be Towed!... It ends with a stunning view that everyone should experience at least once if they are local, and my dog loves this trail as much as me and everyone else.

This is my go-to hike in Santa Barbara. It is the right blend of difficult and beautiful. Doing trail runs on this hike is a huge part of my plan to get in better shape.

Gorgeous and scenic, this hike is located a few miles inland and starts out relatively moderate temperature-wise, but quickly turns hot as you enter the canyon — bring lots of water. Lots of wild flowers and expansive views, if you’re into photography it’s worthwhile to bring a camera. Enjoy this hike, it’s a beauty and not too strenuous at all.

Amazing! I was so sore the next day!!

Great views. Too many people and unleashed dogs for my liking though.

Very convenient place to hike if you’re visiting Santa Barbara and live in the area but don’t want to venture up to San Rafael Wildnerness or Lake Cachuma.

Short hike with beautiful views!!! Highly recommended you can also do trail run or bike

Great view! Took us about 2hrs round trip. Going up was a tad difficult if you're an average hiker, but great workout!

This trail is nowhere near New Cuyama. Best done as a shuttle from Matilja and or from river camp.

This is a long trail. There is a cement road that technically leads to the trail head. In total I did almost 4 miles. Pretty much all uphill and rocky. Extremely hot because your in a canyon with rocks. Definitely bring water, wear big spray and wear a hat. Very worth it, I got a great workout.

I am here for work and by myself- so I wanted a safe, clearly marked. Trafficked trail and it was exactly that! Met a few friendly people along the way too who gave me the helpful hint of always stay to the left!! (There are several splits and you don't want to go to the right).

I got there on Sunday at about 7:30 am and barely found parking as someone was leaving. By 9 when I left people were parked a good half mile down the road.

Beautiful trail! Still great wildflowers on the 'Loop' side of the trail - so turning right at the beginning of the loop instead of going straight. But the whole loop was gorgeous! Part of the trail was washed out but easy enough to scramble around.

I had a good time, but I wish the signage was better. I ended up going to a different peak with a really steep hill so got a bit of an extra workout, but Inspiration Point itself is gorgeous. I knew it would be busy so I went early, but was still surprised by the amount of people on a Sunday morning. Beautiful spot though, especially with the recent rains filling the small stream in the canyon, so definitely worth it at least once.
