- My 7 and 10 years old kids enjoyed this hike, especially the adventurous rocky descent to pirate cove beach and climbing back up! This is what makes this trail fun and unique!
- Perfect distance (1.8 miles, from Muir beach) to Pirate cove for a morning snack, then back to Muir beach for a picnic lunch! (3.6 miles total)
- We took the flight of stairs, as a shortcut from Muir beach to the coastal trail and down to Muir beach, on the way back.
- Beautiful scenic views, saw two bunnies, and a snake!

Great hike! Got to see a bit of Muir Beach, Dipsea, Mt. Tam, Steep Ravine.

Going down to the cove at the end is a bit challenging with the rocks, but it’s well worth it at the end

Just finished the hike. Decent kickstart to my hiking season. The inclines gave me a good workout. The trail itself is pretty exposed. The wind was pretty brutal today, but grateful for it because it would've been very hot if not for the wind. There is no shade at all. The coastal views were nice.

Pretty nice hike, nice views, especially at sunset

Challenging uphills will tire those legs but the beautiful views are 100% worth it

Spectacular views very nice 1.5 hour hike
Lots of going up and down good trails

Awesome views. No traffic on first section whilst Highway 1 is being repaired. Easy elevation change stretched over the distance, except for the bottom of Dipsea. Nice mix of Fern Gully vibes and exposed coastal hills. Lots of water stops on the way round- really nice way to experience this spot on Mount Tam

Great hike with two different opportunities to spend time in the beach. The trail gets confusing at the end on the Middle Green section because that section of the trail has been moved and you have to go around a farm and then through a farm. Don't fret!

This hiking trail was recommended by a friend. I wasn’t quite ready for all the inclines at the beginning but the views from all angles were well worth every step of the hike.
Started from Muir Beach and ended at Tennessee Beach but Rodeo was the destination. My other two friends made it all the way with a slight detour but it wouldn’t be an adventure without off trailing a little.
I do suggest hiking sticks, at least 3ltr minimal and some good snacks to refuel your body the way back to starting point.
This was a great 2nd accomplishment for a man my size. 6’2 453lbs and still losing ⛰

The views going down are nice if the day isn't foggy and the beach area can be quite secluded if you go during the week. The trail gets a little rougher as you get closer to the bottom.

Parked in the Muir Beach parking lot then picked up the trailhead just north of the Pelican Inn. Hiked clockwise for a moderate 2 mile uphill hike, then along the ridge line then a more steep downhill. Much of the trail has washed out ruts from water runoff which makes it somewhat less desirable to hike. 2 hours to hike the loop.

great stroll today. the marine layer burned off just as we finished in time to eat lunch on the beach.

Timing is everything. Make sure you beat the crowds.

Great views, variety, elevation changes. Good signage.

Love it! Views are amazing.

Awesome trail system in this area. I watched some whales from the Vista near this cove. found some old military bunkers up the hill. really cool area!

Excellent loop hike beginning at Muir Beach and taking in Tennessee Beach and Pirate's Cove. When done right, this hike has it all: wildlife (I saw a wolf, whales, a snake, quails, rabbits, and more); views (of San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge, and rugged stretches of Pacific Coast); beaches; etc. Much more interesting than doing the more typical out and back from Muir Beach to Tennessee Beach along the Coastal Trail. If you start in mid-morning, Tennessee Beach makes for a great picnic spot.
