Great trail, for as far as we could make it. Rookie move to 1) start at 11am in June ack! too hot! 2) not have proper footwear.. flip-flops? duh and 3) wanted to walk, but ended up carrying my 3.4 lb Yorkie with me (see reason (1)!
ah! lesson learned but! I will look forward to a Fall or early Spring do-over

Finally finished this trail after hiking it twice (time constraints) beautiful hike and well worth getting to the picnic and camping areas at the top. BEAUTIFUL change of scenery as you progress through this trail.

Not an easy trail. Trail is well maintained. Bring lots of water on a hot day. Great view. Flannel bush in bloom, beautiful!

One of my family's favorite hikes! It's beautiful, and we only ever see a few people.

Great hike - very peaceful and beautiful views! My family and I were alone on a Saturday. We only passed one other family who was on their way out when we started.

Great hike but I would rate as moderate! Fantastic views. Next time I hope to have more time to explore once at the top, it's so pretty.

Great trail for beginners. Was my first hike and although I didn’t finish, I was quick to go back and try again. Plenty of great views throughout the trail. A bit rocky in areas but otherwise safe for kids. Will return

Nice leisure hike. Brought kids ages 5-17 and they all enjoyed and were able to walk up no problem.

That past review was today 3/19 and a perfect day temperature round trip from pinyon 6 plus hours We were retracting where my sister took the wrong turn. Could happen to anyone. Happy trails

Beautiful yet markers are not always clear especially in washes be careful and aware of your trail. My sister got lost and we live in this area and it can easily be as dangerous if not paying attention. Otherwise absolutely worth wild. Spectacular for locals as well as visitors

Not a easy trail and I’m a novice. Moderate for sure. Trail gets rocky and narrow at times. Beautiful views. 2.5 hrs to top and I’m in shape. Take water and snacks. Worth the hike.

Abundance of colors, clearly marked trail, very pleasant hike. There are a few heart pumping stretches but for the most part, a nice steady hike on gravelly surfaces, with plenty of plant life and rewarding vistas. The sign for Horse Thief Creek seems to have been removed, but I followed signage for the Cactus Springs signs trail and just stopped at the Creek. There weren’t many birds or flowers early March, even at the Creek. The drive up and back down from Palm Desert offers stunning view of the valley and distant mountains.

trail was great, awesome view from the side of the mountain, trail is wide enough for 2 people to walk side by side for most of the trail.

nice hike in. No overgrowth as stated by others. Meet a great couple with kids. My fog loved the hike as much as I did. Will come back again. This is a hike you should be Waring hiking boots and pants

Beautiful trail, watch out for bulls! On our way back to the road, we encountered a herd of cattle grazing in the oaks between the 2nd and 3rd gates. The majority had HUGE horns on them. We heard cowbells on a couple, so we figured they were at least somewhat familiar with seeing people, and we calmly and quietly continued on trying not to startle them. They gave us some pretty solid stares as we walked by, but we made it through without upsetting any of them. So keep an eye out, and make sure to abide by the signs and close the gates as you go.

this is a beautiful trail very easy and fun for the whole family to go,and get away from the city i went ant did not see any
body else.

I absolutely LOVED this hike! We went on this trail on a Sunday afternoon in December and only met one other hiker on the trail! It's very peaceful here and the views surrounding the trail are STUNNING!!!! We hiked about half of the trail before heading back! Highly recommend this trail! Click on the photos to see the photos I took while hiking!

We loved this trail, I wouldn’t classify it as easy, but we did the trail with our dog and loved its remoteness and peace

Nice views of the desert cities once you cross the PCT, and nice vistas to the south on the way back down the switchbacks. Lots of mosquitoes and flies once you're at Cedar Springs. 6.6 miles out and back.

Beautiful hike. If you bring dogs make sure you bring water for them as the creek isn’t until the very end of the hike. We didn’t have a lot of time to explore but at the bottom where the creek is, it’s very thick and we got into some stinging nettles (not the end of the world, but they still hurt). I would also mention that the mileage of this hike is a little longer than it states. I would say easy enough for kids.

Great hike, keep going all the way to the river it's a beautiful little spot. The whole hike took about 2 hrs travel time

6.4 total up and back. nice variety of terrain. Switchbacks made the elevation gain easy. Continue over the top on Cedar Springs trail through burn area, desert views, cedar Grove and spring. Just didn't expect to see big cedars there. Nice prize at the end.

I bagged this peak while section hiking the PCT. There isn't much of a view other than Pine Trees. North of the peak there's a nice rock to watch the sunset from.

A nice secluded place to camp. Lots of trees and shade at the remote campsites. The spring was still flowing mid July. I'm not sure if it flows year round but it's nice to not have to carry all your water in. The source of the spring isn't very easy to get to. It's in a ditch and there are hundreds of flies, bees, and probably mosquitoes in there with you. It was however the best tasting water and it was cold! I'd recommend filtering it before you drink it.

not easy..... but great views and trail. I would definitely rate as moderate to hard...hard on a hot day.......

I would rate this hike as a moderate hike. The climb up can be steep at times. Full sun at times. I recommend this hike on a cool day. The views are worth the hike for sure. I just want the rating to be moderate.

This is the most beautiful hike...I would not say it is Easy...more like a firm Moderate.

Went again early on a Saturday, Memorial Weekend. No other hikers seen, I don't think too many hikers use this trail. The trail is getting a bit overgrown towards the end, but still easy to follow. I wouldn't take a dog as there are lots of burrs and foxtails now. Do not take horses no matter what the descrption says! Way too narrow and rocky at some parts.
The 1st creek is dry and the 2nd is kind of stagnant, if that's what you're hoping to do at the end it's probably not the best idea. We could hear water flowing but couldn't see how to get to it, so there might be a good hidden spot somewhere.
On the way back the bugs and flies were almost unbearable, even sprayed ourselves 3 times and it didn't help. I could see them all swarming my head in my shadow!
Still a nice hike, we will go again!

My grandson and his dog did this hike planning to spend the night. When we got to Tools Springs the threads on the faucet handle are stripped the water is leaking out the side of the pipe. so we got water. last night got cold we had a light weight tent and sleeping bags. My 11 year old grandson went right to sleep. Took me awhile. we were the only ones up there. trip was well worth it. my pack weighed 25 lbs my grandsons pack weighed 15 lbs. as we weighed before we left. the packs held us back some. made lots of rest stops. took us 3 hours to get up there. trail flowers, manzanita, scrub oaks and pines made for a trip well worth it. in my opinion its strenuous if you are carrying a pack.
