Hiking past the locked gate up to Toro Peak is trespassing onto Santa Rosa Indian Reservation Land. It is clearly marked on the gate. Please have some respect for Native Americans. You can hike up Toro Peak West and North without trespassing.

I just love this trail!!!! Haven't hiked it since the fire but, from what I am reading It seems to be open! I am beyond excited!

Great hike with great views with some steep inclines toward the top. Most of the trees sadly have been burned down from the recent fires. But still worth the views.

We were a group of 7 adults who hiked this trail Feb. 1st. They charge $6 per person to enter the park for day use, which was fine, we just weren't expecting it, so be sure to bring some cash to get in. It's a large campground with many camping spots, but the park was virtually empty the day we were there. The hikes go off the campground and into the mountains. It's a lovely area but the trails are very, very poorly marked and in many places not marked at all. The map they give you is not useful for the hike. We wandered off the trail a few times and were only saved by our All Trails app. Of the 3 cell phone service providers between us, only one of them got cell service in the area to access the app. The trail was a steady but very gradual incline up. We did not go to the end of the trail as we were encountering lots of deep ruts likely from recent rain. The trail was not wet, but the ruts were fairly deep in spots. We enjoyed our day and the scenery is really lovely. For the price to get in, they need to do a much better job marking the trails and then you wouldn't need an app, or map.

Did this hike on 1/26/18 for the first time since the Mountain fire. Have done it a few times in the past including a shuttle starting at the Zen trail and over Apache. Always have loved the Spitler trail for the variety of foliage and views, especially from the PCT into the desert. The burn was devastating. Almost nothing left behind. The only living trees were on the upper east slopes of Spitler
A little looking about to find the use trail to the top.
Still a worthwhile hike that I would recommend. PCT closed toward Apache.

This was my first run solo as a new Jeeper. Trail itself was narrow, but you could manage spots to pass. Not crowded at all- did this mid-Sept. Spots to pull over and rest, sleep, camp, etc...plus a bigger camp site with 4-5 sites all together with a vault toilet. Cool place to fill your water bottles from a pipe sticking out of the ground...fresh clean water straight from the trail! get to the top and you have an incredible vista view! Hike a little ways from there (blocked off from vehicle traffic) and you are up at the towers. Would definitely do this again!

Beautiful day, after two days of rain. The sound of Hurley Creek bubbling over the rocks for the first 1/2 mile invited exploration. Not that I left the trail to walk across on rocks, or a felled tree bridge. Went about two miles up, then turned back. Paid $6 to park at Hurley Creek Campground. I was given a map that didn’t give much info of the trail. I felt it was well worth the money and time. Glad I treated myself.

Hiked 12/2/17. Weather was perfect. Would not want to do this hike in the middle of summer. We hiked up Spitler Trail , to PCT, then south on PCT and down to our shuttle parked at Cedar Springs Trailhead. A little more than 14 miles. It took us about 7 hours to complete.
The PCT is currently closed North of where Spitler Peak and the PCT meet.
I would consider this a hard hike (seemed most of Trail was uphill) for someone not working out regularly.

The Spitler Peak Trail is now open as of Thanksgiving week. I hiked 3.13 miles of the trail on Thanksgiving day. The trail itself is in excellent condition but the loss of all the red shanks and trees means even less shade than before the Mountain Fire. Still great views and lots of interesting plants for botanists.

If you're looking for seclusion, this is it! Really great views, and you don't have to go far to see them. If you're hiking, be mindful that there is almost zero shade, so bring lots of water!

Great trail. Really dusty going up. Snow at the top was a nice surprise. Going back down was rutted up from people going through when really muddy. Nice, easy trail. Nothing crazy. Picnic tables, fire rings and restrooms at top. Great camping spots. Well worth the drive

I would call ahead. Nothing indicated trail was closed( including the forest service website) but after 3/4 mile up the trail it was closed. So our trip was very short. It was ok as far as the trail itself, easy, but mostly looking at semi-dead scrub the whole time.

A good trail to the ridgetop campground and Thomas Mt. Road. It's about 2.5 miles from here to Thomas Mt. along the road for a total of 10 round trip. There are signs on Hwy 74 indicating the Thomas Mt. Trail.

The location shown on the app is spot on, easy to find/follow signs from hwy 74 to the trailhead. It's more of a dirt road than a trail all the way up. We parked at the gate where the pavement ends and hiked to the top of the ridge where the power lines cross the trail. We didn't find any way to "loop" back, but from the trailhead to the top of the ridge and back was about 3 miles. Great views of Anza, smooth path, will do again!!

Loved this trail! yes it's only a mile out and back but one year into Mountain Biking I can't complain really, technical climbing and descending for sure, I'm sure there's other trails here and I'm gonna find them! Coming back soon.

Did this hike back in 2011. It was a very rewarding hike with incredible views at the top overlooking Lake Hemet in one direction and the entire Coachella Valley in the other. I was sad to see that fire had destroyed the area. I hope it will be reopened and restored some day in the future do others can enjoy this great hike.

Camped with our 8yr old cub scouts and took short hike during down time. Couldnt find The official trail as it's marked on this app but found another path that followed near by. We entered between sites 97 & 98, and took the wash til we hit this path and followed north. The path veers around a barbed wire fence but joins back up. In 15 min we hit a little summit between large boulders at 0.6 miles from the campsites, then turned back due to time constraints. Boys loved it as did the parents. The trail still continued and more trails in area.

Fun easy hike . We ended up doing about 5 miles all uphill for the first 2.5 then we turned back because we lost any shade and it was over 85 degrees
But relatively easy. Sad that there was a fire so a lot of great hiking trails are closed

They have graded this road all the way to the top. Also they have blocked off access to the summit (see the photo of the sign I posted). I think this just happened as the gates looked new and graders and dozers parked at the top and bottom. The drive was very scenic and easy (we passed an old Volvo wagon at the top). No snow but google maps does acknowledge that it can happen. If you do take the drive, look for the natural spring and the "Old Log Cabin" remains:)

Decided to take a drive to Thomas mountain and look for some campgrounds and some good 4x4 spots. I like having a place to go and test my equipment out at. I think I found a few spots.
