HikingGreat!

Started at 11am finished at 1:35pm. Not much shade, which I’m ok with. Great views. Fire road trail in and out. For me, it was meh..

HikingGreat!

This trail continually ascends from trailhead to summit at a moderate rate. It’s a fire road that’s in great shape and would be fantastic for beginner trail runners. I’m not so fond of fire roads, hence the 3-star rating but I did appreciate the beautiful summit views. This trail is mostly exposed so try to pick a cool morning or afternoon, unless you like the heat. Enjoy!

Good! Not too hard, but a good workout. On a clear day you can see LA and the ocean!

Well maintained, not too crowded, and amazing views. The last .5 miles was the most difficult part of the trail, but worth it for the view.

Perfect, if you start this loop from the canyon, you have a good work out to the spur then the climb is nice a soft. Amazing views on clear days.

11/27/2020 Route 2 is open, from I-210, until the Red Box & entrance to Wilson. Parking is limited so plan to arrive as early as possible.Trail is in good condition. There are parts that are narrow & close to the edge so Eyes on the Trail! The last mile or so is steep & rocky. Overgrown greeneries are seen sporadically otherwise you'll find yourself exposed to all the weather elements. Today was generally sunny with chilly winds on approach to the 2nd & 3rd false peaks up until the very top. So layer up. Logged in 7.20 miles, 3.5 hours.

HikingGreat!

Went out at 12 pm (was tryna doing another trail but it was closed) and fell upon this one. SO worth it. Beautiful hike especially for a fall day, breezy 70 but got up to 60 towards the peak. Didn’t make it to the peak (it’s steep!) but excited to try again.

I hiked on 11/26/20. I arrived at approximately 0550, it was sooooo windy and cold, the temp was approximately 39 degrees. By the time I took off and started I was able to see the sunrise! Myyyy what a beautiful sight! the first half is quite easy but the second half as others have said is a bit more challenging but doable. Overall the views were beautiful the entire time. Round trip was about 4 hours and I spent about 20 minutes at the peak. If you’re going very early layer up and be ready for the winds.

trail is in great shape. first half is pretty easy, but the second half definitely gets the heart rate up. pretty exposed for most of it, so definitely a better hike for a cool day.

Very windy day so the dust was flying and it was pretty cold when the wind was blowing and in the shade of the hillside but warm in the sun so use layers. First half is pretty relaxed but there is some scrambling during the second half where there are around three false peaks. Great hike though and a good workout.

Third time is a charm! The first two times I attempted to start this hike it was either smoky and too hot or the gate was close to get to Redbox. Overall a great hike. Challenging incline halfway going up. Started early and only three other people ahead of me. Cold during November so layer up and wear a beanie. Needs a little clean up.

Hiked on 11/22/2020 , this hike is beautiful has amazing views and the temperature was just right , a little bit windy on the top , it gets a little bit hard the last 2 miles but at the beginning of the trail I would rated more as moderate hike , the highway 2 still closed but you can still parked on the red box or on the street , I’ll suggest you to go early on the day the trail is really exposed , other than that beautiful hike

Easy 8 mile up and back hike. The trail was a nice wide fire road all the way up.

HikingGreat!

Tried to hike from Colby Canyon with my normal trainers but was too slippery, come to Red Box this time with my new hiking shoes and it was much easier than Colby route. Bring a jacket as it gets a bit windy up the peak.

We hiked part of this Sunday November 22. The trail is now open--the road is closed at Red Box but the lot and shoulder were full of cars. However, this hike was very quiet...maybe only half a dozen people on a Sunday. Keep an eye out for mountain bikes.

The road to the trailhead is closed. Drove all the way up to turn around. This should be noted here; the trailhead is in the burn area near Mount Wilson and cannot be accessed from Hwy 2.

Beautiful hike all the way! On a clear day you can see incredibly far. Not difficult but a decent workout! Not shaded until the last 1/3 of the way.
