HikingGreat!

Started at 11am finished at 1:35pm. Not much shade, which I’m ok with. Great views. Fire road trail in and out. For me, it was meh..

HikingGreat!

This trail continually ascends from trailhead to summit at a moderate rate. It’s a fire road that’s in great shape and would be fantastic for beginner trail runners. I’m not so fond of fire roads, hence the 3-star rating but I did appreciate the beautiful summit views. This trail is mostly exposed so try to pick a cool morning or afternoon, unless you like the heat. Enjoy!

Good! Not too hard, but a good workout. On a clear day you can see LA and the ocean!

Perfect, if you start this loop from the canyon, you have a good work out to the spur then the climb is nice a soft. Amazing views on clear days.

Easy 8 mile up and back hike. The trail was a nice wide fire road all the way up.

The road to the trailhead is closed. Drove all the way up to turn around. This should be noted here; the trailhead is in the burn area near Mount Wilson and cannot be accessed from Hwy 2.

Beautiful hike all the way! On a clear day you can see incredibly far. Not difficult but a decent workout! Not shaded until the last 1/3 of the way.

HikingGreat!

Great hike! But please wear a damn mask! About half the people passing by on the trail didn’t wear a mask when walking by—so moronic and disrespectful. Long hike but nice views at top. Shaded for the last third. Watch out for little lizard friends sunbathing on the trail. Also, this trail is about 9 mi out and back- longer than description suggests.

Freezing today, but gorgeous. The mountains were snow capped, and we got to see a little bit of snow and frosted trees off the trail.

Easy to navigate, steady incline. Not too busy on a Saturday morning.

HikingGreat!

The hike in general is easy, except for the last mile going up, it is almost vertical and quite challenging. Make sure you are hydrated and have good hiking boots and poles.

I enjoyed this hike, but probably not going to repeat. This is a class 2 route, not super difficult, but make sure you have some path finding and scramble skills. You are off trail most of the time. I went counterclockwise, the beginning was SUPER steep. Not for beginners. The top of granite peak was lovely, most of the trail were quiet. Took me 7 hrs and 2 L of water

Hiking

I hiked this with a friend and did the out and back staying to the left side of the trail marker. The trail does loop to a fire road however the beauty of the out and back is being among the amazing trees and landscape. However, when we were descending we smelled smoke and unfortunately it was the beginning of the bobcat fire which has probably ravaged this area. This hike was incredibly beautiful and I definitely recommend it if it is still standing.

HikingBugsNo shade

It would have been a fine hike if we had begun earlier. There was no shade whatsoever. The first half of the hike is very easy, and features a cool tunnel through the first mountain. Walking back is entirely uphill for nearly four miles. It is also almost exactly eight miles, starting from the trailhead, to Inspiration Point, and back to the trailhead, not 6.8 miles. It only took us about 3 hours, but we didn’t spend much time at Inspiration Point. Parking was super easy, lots of spaces along the main road. We were also attacked and followed by bees that absolutely refused to leave us alone multiple times.

HikingBugsGreat!Scramble

Beautiful area with all the big trees giving shade if you start early enough, around 70% of the trail is shaded. The stretch further after the saddle closer to the peak is a scramble, loose gravel and straight up. Make sure you follow the stacked rocks and AllTrails on the last stretch before the peak, it’s easy to lose sight of the trail. Bring trekking poles for the portion coming back down from the peak, you’ll need them due to the loose ground, gets better again after the saddle. It’s a challenging hike for sure but in a good way :) Took us 5 hr 15 min round trip—plus we spent 45 minutes at the peak all by ourselves having a snack and enjoying the spectacular views , so 6 hrs total.
