I was excited about this new trail that parallels the road, winding through forest, but quickly realized there are much nicer hikes through this area. The hike is sort of dusty and rough at this point; about 1.5 miles in I decided to head back to the car and up to Old Ski Bowl to do one of the hikes up there (Panther Meadows and/or Southgate Meadows - grey butte is also nice), which are much nicer.

Beautiful afternoon walk around the lake, wasn’t hot,had a light breeze that made it very comfortable for the 7 mile workout

Lovely views and little development. The trail is easy to follow yet offers several short spurs down closer to the water. Great walk if you’re looking to avoid elevation!

Fantastic trail! Great views, well maintained. Bridges installed today, though not in time for me; had to wade across while trail crew was working on bridge installation.

no bridge yet, but possible rock hopping

If you need a quick fix in a beautiful meadow surrounded by alpine vistas this is it and it is just a 3 blocks from the center of town! Multiple places to start, but the closest is at the upper end of E Castle St.

Awesome trail! Be careful and make sure that the bridges are installed on the west side. There are no warnings.

amazing hike. so awesome are the views, especially at the top. My brother and i summited it in about 3 hours with dogs and a long stop at the top, but we are experienced hikers. there's a neat structure to chill in and protect you from wind at the peak. loved it, would do it again. beware the top is very rocky and steep, could be slippery when wet, definitely wear good trail shoes.

Nice drive up to the very end of Everitt Memorial Hwy on Mt. Shasta from Bunny Flat, where those that are hiking to the very top start, and to the end of the road to the Old Ski Bowl trail. Absolutely beautiful views of Shasta. Do not miss going to the end of the road.

Nice place to stretch your legs, and let the dogs out!

Good day hike uphill with amazing views along the way! We went in February and it was a little cold on top but we were the only ones on the trail and I cannot say enough about the beautiful views Mount Shasta on one side and the Eddies on the other!

This is a really nice hike. Since I like to do things the hard way, I hiked up instead of down. The location of this hike allows several options - today I parked near McBride Springs campground (where the trail crosses Everitt Memorial) and hiked an out-and-back on the upper section. (From the campground, follow the trail that says "water" to find the trail.) There are some patches of snow left, and really nice view of Mt. Shasta and the Eddies near the top. The trial is unsigned, but easy to follow. In a bigger snow year, there would be a lot more snow on the upper part of this trail, which might make it more difficult to follow.

Interesting big time because this is where the headwaters of the Sacramento River begins. It simply starts coming out of the rocks and forms a stream. Confusing pieces of trails here.

Great morning hike!

Beautiful trail with some nice scenic stops. It’s an up and back trail- no loop.

Heed the warnings in other reviews about knowing where the TH is!! If you click “directions” from the AllTrails app, it doesn’t take you all the way to the TH (it takes you to a place to park if you have a low clearance vehicle.) We ended up walking a ways down the wrong road because we didn’t know which one led to the trail. Once we figured out which way to go, we drove our Subaru the rest of the way to the trail. The trail itself is really great: low traffic, dogs on leash allowed, and beautiful views of Shasta (if the clouds aren’t covering the mountain.)

If you want a hike that offers great views with very little foot traffic, this is the one to take! Be sure to get specific directions to the TH if you've not been before... the drive there is not a straightforward shot. This hike is best done in cooler weather as most of the rocky trail beyond the first 1/4 mile is completely exposed. Wear sturdy shoes to help you navigate boulder-size rocky sections the majority of the trail. On a clear day, the views from the top are beautiful!

This is an easy hike, but beware, there are lots of unmarked spur trails that loop all around the area. Luckily, majestic Mt Shasta and the Eddys offer great visuals for keeping you headed in the right direction. My Labs and I are always happy to have another dog-friendly trail to choose from!

Great hike, cold due to the hike on the North side but ultimately beautiful!! Amazing views if the Valley, Castle Crags in the distance, Mt. Shasta. It is dirt and lava rock trail.

Super fun hike with amazing views of Mt Shasta and the surrounding region the whole way. Followed the dirt road to where all trails marks the start of the trail- we were in an Audi A3 E-tron and had no problems with clearance, notably no snow or ice on the road at the time. The trail is easy to follow and wraps around the butte with a steady but never steep uphill climb. There are stretches traversing rock fields and boulders so definitely recommend hiking boots and proceeding with caution- not treacherous though.

Very pretty trail. Easy to find. Not much parking at TH. I’d rate difficulty as easy

I used google maps to get to TH and had no problem. It does take a bunch of fire roads and I was glad I had a higher clearance vehicle, there was one sedan at the TH.

Trail is completely uphill one way but very gradual slope (I thought). Very easy to follow path. Ran into about ten parties on the trail. Had my dog and did find the trail difficult to navigate w dog on leash. Temperature was perfect in December
