Is only 4 miles hike, but steep. Very nice. Will be back springtime when the falls are fuller.

The waterfall trail is absolutely gorgeous.

Multiple waterfalls, lots of shade, dog-friendly, easy loop, not crowded: what's not to like? No permit was required for hiking as this was after 6/30.

a gorgeous hike that is easy enough for little kids.

Heading into summer: tall grasses, narrow path on the Vallecito portion of the trail Today, had a mountain lion sighting 150 yds from the main trail and a different unseen animal growled at us near the creek on Vallecito trail. While on the wide trails, very enjoyable.

Went at 11am on a Friday. No issue with Parking and no reservation. Easy 4 mile loop.

Drove up sunday, and A RESERVATION IS REQUIRED FOR HIKING, the reservation has to be made at least the night before. NO SAME DAY RESERVATIONS. Long drive, to have to turn around and drive out. Very disapointing.

haven't done this hike, but a RESERVATION is required to HIKE on the weekend. way too many other options in the Bay Area.

the good news is that the road is open again

Great hike for kids-- it's reopened and very easy to call and pay for $6 permit-- we had to print it out. We went up and made it a harder loop and came down the waterfall trail, well worth the extra work.

Their policy has changed - you must have a reservation on the weekends even to hike! It's a one lane road in and out and they turned cars away at the park making for really bad traffic jams. And the ranger told us you can't park outside Sveadal and walk through there, either. So a long drive for nothing.

Pretty decent hike but would rate it as hard. It’s easy to moderate. Beautiful views of rolling hills and reservoir. Not much shaded. Good to be done in winters/spring.

Great quick hike with many hills and nice views!

Had no problem finding the trail head or accessing the trail. It starts roadside at a gate that's next to the plaque describing the dam. Very flat, great views of surrounding hills, valley, and reservoir.

Great trail. Wide path throughout, quiet, some amazing views and lots of sun. I would categorize on the low end of Hard.

Definitely did not live up to the "hard" rating

So beautiful and serene, and such a great, well-maintained/informational hike. At the campground and trailhead you can pick up a map and a guided nature hike flier with information about the different plants and wildlife in the canyon. The Waterfall Loop is a lush hike through a coastal redwood riparian environment. You’ll feel like you’re in Big Sur right here in Watsonville. Also, this is the absolute best time to go (I’m writing this in January 2018), as it is technically closed, and you will have it all to yourself. Closure is only due to the road being washed out. Access via the Knibb’s Knob trailhead at the back of the park off Summit Rd (see Maymens Flat and Knibb’s Knob Trail page). You don’t necessarily need 4WD, but it is certainly helpful. Not for children until Croy Rd is open again around April 2018.

Well, while this is not a long hike, you can extend it by walking all along the top of the dam over to the other side. For a beginner, there are some hills, so its not super easy. I thought it would be completely flat, but its not. But the view from the dam is amazing!

Beautiful views of the lake and mountain. My heart was pumping on the section of the Los Cerritos before you turn onto the Pena trail. It was a nice afternoon stroll for a fall day.

This is a great place that people need to really give a shot. You'll explore some really nice spots. The scenery at the top of the dam is gorgeous! There's another trail that goes a bit higher but I didn't get the chance to explore that area. Next time!

What a GORGEOUS hike! So much wildlife this morning near the pond (which I guess is the watering hole). Lots of bullfrogs at a different pond along this trail about 1.5 miles in as well. The flowers were blooming, the grass was tall and green, and there were lots of bugs, but no biting bugs. The dark oak trees contrast beautifully against the light green wavy grass. There's lots of shade and sun and is in perfect condition to hike right now before it gets too hot. We did all 7 miles (both loops) and were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful views and wildlife we saw. Bring lots of water, definitely wear sunscreen, and maybe wear a hat in the next couple months. There is a bit of steep incline between the loops, but it doesn't last for a long time.

Keep the trail clean and enjoy!

A nice trail although I'd keep a careful eye out for rattlesnakes. Other than that an easy trail for someone who hikes regularly. Also, this is to be expected but when hiking along bodies of water but be wary of insects! There are a lot along the reservoir.

There was no trail head or markings on where the trail started and no way to get across the spillway. Total bust.

We did the shorter hike. Nice incline and decent view. Not a lot of shade but definitely a lot snakes...rattlesnakes!!!
